RedShark is making a bold claim about Canon: "Manufacturers are not trying to annoy you on purpose" https://www.redsharknews.com/production/item/5772-manufacturers-are-not-trying-to-annoy-you-on-purpose

Ohhhhhhhh..... are you going to do a YouTube review of the G80 in the future?
-
Deal! You're coming here to NZ? ? Went for a nice bike ride late late last night: My favorite ever doco is a cycling film (surprise surprise!): The guy shot most of it just with handycams strapped to his head! Definitely going story over gear here. Is it really strong? I drink cider as it is kinda my only low strength 4% to 8% option, seeing as I can't drink beer (used to, but medical reasons stopped me because of bad genetics! Got to avoid the wheat that beer is made from). If I want something stronger I go for spirits. Give it six months and prices will ease off. Look at how the X-H1 has dropped a little already. Fuji 18-55mm f2.9! ? (odd though that the X Mount version is two hundred dollars more expensive than the Sony E mount version! If anything, you'd think Fuji would encourage purchases using their own mount)

Next we'll be finding out VK was at Manchester too!

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
They'll certainly have a flat profile, all their current generation DSLRs already have a flat profile. (even their lowliest Nikon D3x00!) -
I bet there would be no less than tens of thousands of vloggers. Probably hundreds of thousands of vloggers. Potentially millions (especially if you count all the micro vlogging social media sites). Or course what proportion of them are keeping it up on a regular basis and would commit to buying an EOS R? Of course only a teeny percentage of those. Sadly these "pros" who are complete technical air heads are far more common than you think.

Maybe I should move to Portland! (that is where I already send all my USA purchases which I reship! Because I have my reshipper's warehouse address in Portland) I swear to god I am not a hipster, yet I'm also a keen cycling fanatic (seriously, I moonlight as a bike messenger as well.... could I be any more of a stereotype without meaning to?), am an anarchist, drink cider not beer, have weird/obscure niche taste in music, follow a paleo diet, etc etc etc etc... I'm just digging my hole deeper the more I talk. Anyway, I think we've passed "peak beard"? But I've been growing beards on and off for years, and I will again, that won't change. On the topic of Gandalf, I once recorded sound for a Lord of the Rings parody web series, and our "gandalf" was glorious to lav up! Because I could hide his lav right out in the "open", because it would be hidden from sight underneath his long white beard and as a bonus the beard acted as fantastic wind protect! Now for a totally unrelated pic (as if this thread wasn't already enough off topic!), just because it is funny:

Ha, maybe I should have called my channel "Beard Knows!" (like "Fro Knows" is for photography) Wait... what?? What relatives? :-o Well in the sense that most girls would run away at the sight of this beard. I'd have better odds with it at a quarter of its length instead. Maybe my problem is I don't know exactly where I want to specialize in production sound? (sometimes I think I do... but then I change mind, I like all kinds! Be it recording doco/drama/TVC/corporate/whatever) If I stuck with just doing features/shorts/etc then a beard would be less of a hindrance to being hired, however that wouldn't be so true if I was going to do more TVC/corporate/etc Appearance "shouldn't matter", but I know also they do.

I need something like this but with a clamp on the bottom so I can attached my iPod Touch (which uses an iOS app with the F8n) to the frame of my Orca OR30 mixing bag.
-
I'd be happy to settle for getting excited over a LS300 mk2 (or a firmware update) which is more or less the same as the LS300 mk1 but adds 4K 60fps 10bit internal So close yet so far! If only this was a S35 camera.
-
Even a bongo tie or two might be all you merely need. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/883072-REG/BongoTies_a5_01_Standard_5_Elastic_Cable.html I use a tonne of them on set.

I use an Orca OR30 bag, it is not for a camera though, but it is used for filmmaking:

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
IronFilm replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
https://www.43rumors.com/ft5-the-new-panasonic-ff-has-way-more-than-30-megapixels/ Holy cheap batman... this is FT5 now!! This makes me question everything. Should I still want to get the Panasonic 12-60 & 42.5mm f1.7?? I want them.... But also I don't want them to become like my Samsung lenses are now ? -
Did BMD claim that? I think it was only JB who said that, and as he isn't actually part of BMD then no surprise if he is out of the loop and he says something slightly inaccurate. Seeing as these Asian unboxing videos did come out merely a handful of hours or so ago.
-
Oh maybe Chinese retailers/distributors are just much much more loose in following rules than elsewhere in the Western World. BMD might have perhaps put out instructions to only release the camera's say on this coming Monday, so that BMD can coordinate a timed simultaneous world wide release. But some people ignore those instructions?!
-
I suppose in the past people might want to record raw to a cheaper external SSD in an separate recorder. But even that make no sense now that BMD is offering that directly themselves, to record to a cheap large external drive (via USB) .

I can only dream of being one day myself a "mediocre" cinematographer like John Brawley is! But currently I still fall a long long way short of his abilities and expertise.
-
Hey hey, I remember you too from dvxuser! Oh boy oh boy oh boy has your blog post caused quite the stir in the pro sound community. Anyway, I really need to get around to doing a proper new vs old Deity comparison soon myself. As they're noticeably different. Am entering my beard (& myself) in the NZ Beard Champs at the end of the month. But after that I'm shaving it off!! ? As I'd do much better in both my professional and personal life if I am clean shaven (or a trimmed short beard)

GH5S + x0.64 focal reducer gives a larger than APS-C FoV, in fact it is beginning to near on vistavision/FF FoV! GH5S + x0.71 gives a bit larger than APS-C FoV, but not by so much. Thus an APS-C designed lens might or might not work, depending on the lens. As many lenses do cover a bit larger image circle (so as to improve edge performance). Also it depends on how you're going to use it, a lens which might slightly vignette for 16:9 won't if you crop the image for a 2.39:1 aspect ratio.

I"ll be curious to hear your thoughts of the Olympus E-M10 III vs Panasonic G80, which I see as its closest competitor in price/features/specs. Been doing most of my vlogging with a Samsung S7 (or heck, even worse looking smartphone camera's! Ick), and very occasionally the original BMPCC (but lack of a flip out screen and the bigger crop than usual for MFT makes the BMPCC a tricky choice for selfie vlogging). Going to commit to try and up my standards by using my Panasonic G6 more often instead of my S7 cellphone, especially as I've now finally got the SLR Magic 8mm f4. Which is why the Panasonic G80 tempts, mainly for the IBIS for all the handheld selfie shooting I'd do. (the 4K upgrade would be nice too, but is a minor consideration, I don't even shoot in 4K with my S7 most of the time) However I'm waiting on Panasonic to release a G80 update, it has been two years since the G80 was announced!! Not because I want to buy the next model, but because I want to see a bigger drop on G80 prices on eBay ? As I'm a cheap bastard, and I know the G80 would see no other usage other than purely personal use for my YouTube vlog. Edit: oh darn, just realized the Olympus' screen folds out the "wrong" way. Which makes it a no go for my specific purposes, and not a competitor at all for the G80
-
Indeed! Could be one of the reasons why Fuji survived but Kodak didn't. (well the Kodak "name" survived, but not the company. You can buy Kodak branded cameras still! ha)
-
"when" More like "if" it ships? I wouldn't hold your breath of that. Is a very very tough task to develop a camera, Apertus has been working on this a long time. They'll be outgunned by those companies which have a faster development cycle. I view this as a kinda good thing, I hope all companies are striving to make their products "obsolete"! (but remember, you can still keep on shooting with "obsolete" products! I still even use my ancient Panasonic GH1 cameras a few times a year)
-
Or go much much cheaper with the SLR Magic 8mm f4! I'm quite liking mine. But two stops slower, so you'll be testing the BMPCC4K's low light ability. I thought it is Kinefinity who are the "poor man's RED"?! ?
