  1. Very important there is a little gap between when you last clap (or call "action") and when the take starts. For instance if in an echoey room it might take a few moments for everything to completely die down. And you don't want the remnants of echos to overlap with the actor's dialogue. Also, you want a bit of quiet at each end of the take of room tone to give you some room to play with in the edit rather than having to carefully slice it down to the frame.
  2. A lav tip, snip a hole in the costume if you must:
  3. Can you see the clap? If so then it is easy! Just line up the spike of the audio with the moment you see the two hands meet. But guessing that is what didn't happen.
  4. Yup, but those bargain priced ones are probably stuck with the PL Mount, & of course have that 4K sensor which is BMD's worst. If only it was the 4.6K sensor and EF then I'd suck it up and put up with the weight and bulk for that low low low price I bet the real reason is they don't want to give too much limelight to one of their main competitors: Panasonic
  5. Up until a couple of weeks ago the cheapest option was US$33K! (Canon C700 FF) Then the Kinefinity Mavo LF came out for "only" US$12K And shortly after the Nikon Z6 for only US$2K!!!
  6. UMP however has better quality control, swappable mounts, and built in NDs. Those are some really big features for me.
  7. Don't forget the G7 to G9, which are two products with totally different markets. Wish Panasonic had stayed more consistent in what their lines represented.
  8. Core tip for sound: is if you at all can, then wind up the windows!
  9. I bet! My girlfriend is an artist and she can get pretty hardcore into the different kinds of various brushes she uses (has LOTS! & expensive too) and types of paint.
  10. My YouTube channel also has a bunch of videos with car rigs featured:
  11. Zoom F8n sound cart at work on its first feature film for me with the F8n!
  12. Agreed 110% Where is the cheap Olympus MFT camera to get newbies to fall in love with Olympus? I really do hope we don't see Panasonic committing the same folly, as we're seeing early signs they might be.
  13. Is the deal over? Anyway, you can get a secondhand one from B&H for US$2K: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/1096581/jvc_gy_ls300_4kcam_handheld_s35mm.html
  14. They have next the Panasonic EVA1 above it, which doesn't even share a MFT mount with the GHx series!! Major oversight and mistake by Panasonic. Next step up is their Varicam range from Panasonic, which is much much more expensive.
  15. I was just thinking that a moment ago, wonder how cheap the original BMPCC will go? Was thinking to recommend to a friend he buys a BMPCC4K for himself, but also pick up an original BMPCC on the cheap as an emergency back up in the kit or even simply for a second angle on shoots. Wonder also how low will the UMP drop. If it goes below US$3K is my dream.
  16. It is great to have some exotic expensive lenses to grab the headlines and bolster the prestigious of the brand. But I agree, it is a bit pointless if the brand doesn't already have some cheap lenses as an entry point for buyers to capitalize on the interest the exotics bring.
  17. I have often read how it was a disadvantage for Nikon. This is is why Nikon has zero f1.2 AF lenses!
  18. Nikon gives you 10bit output, I bet Canon won’t!
  19. Strange, I’d have expected that behaviour mainly when wide open?
  20. It has "reasonable" audio recording? I wouldn't have thought that But depends on how you define "reasonable" Also my personal preference that 7" is too big for a camera operate, that 7" is the right size for an AC or a portable director's monitor. While 5" is the sweet spot for a cam op
  21. I'm sure if we give it a little time, then we'll soon enough find those unholy Canon EF to Nikon Z adapters! Complete with a sample of Holy Water to sprinkle over your (waterproofed) Nikon Z6/Z7 camera before mounting on it a Canon lens.
  22. As you can tell, I'm very excited (and super tempted, must resist!) by the newly announced Nikon Z6.
  23. If you don't need a recorder as well, and want max bang for your buck then get a Lilliput A5. I have one, and have been happy with it: Or if you want better quality, more features, and the brand name, then get the SmallHD Focus. Atomos is an Australian company. (like Blackmagic Design....)
  24. It should be criminal for a camera manufacturer not to do this. But then again even ARRI can't get this right. Just wrapped on yet another shoot day with an Alexa Mini today. Sigh. (been shooting with them almost every week this month) At least this time the camera department was kind, and not as difficult to work with as the others.
