  1. Stick with the Nikon D600 until you can get the D750. I'd rather film with a Nikon D5200 than a Canon 5Dmk2. (heck, I'd probably prefer I think my old student Panasonic GH1 over a 5Dmk2!)
  2. Ha! I actually went and counted up which are the six words to check if it is six, not five or seven. Here you go: US$1,450 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/406096-REG/Sanken_CS_3E_CS_3E_Short_Shotgun_Microphone.html US$1K https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1411499-REG/zoom_zf8n_zoom_f8n_multi_track_recorder.html (crazy cheap! I'm using it on tomorrow's shoot, only a few years ago I'd have needed a Sound Devices 688 instead which costs $6K!) US$1,655 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/377424-REG/Schoeps_CMC641_SET_Colette_Series_Microphone_Set.html I own the first two, but not the Scheops, I own instead 2x AKG C460B/CK63 (and a CK61 capsule as well, plus heaps and heaps more mics: Audix SX-HC1 / AKG C393 / Oktava / etc). B&H doesn't sell it now, but basically I own two of these (so around US$1K each): https://web.archive.org/web/20150729001911/https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/350573-REG/AKG_C480BCK63_Ultra_Linear.html
  3. I think you missed his point completely. For example: Flash lighting (along with high speed shutter) can be used to massively change the ratio of ambient to artificial light, to get a look you could never achieve with constant lighting.
  4. Get yourself a F8n with a Sanken CS3e and Schoeps CMC6/mk41!
  5. I'm waiting for a "full frame" (in the traditional meaning, not meaning sensor size) 4K Nikon DX DSLR and then I'll probably upgrade my D5200. D7500/D500 both crop their sensor for 4K, plus I'd hope to see 4K in a cheaper D5x00 body.
  6. Yup, the only time I've had a sizeable order just disappear ? 2nd time lucky this time I hope! At the very least it should be a great lens to vlog with my BMPCC
  7. I just placed my order as well. Actually, it cost me nearly twice ish as much though! Because I couldn't resist picking up a few other things as well.....
  8. Even Nikon's DX DSLRs have been great DSLRs for their price. I've had my Nikon D5200 for years now, very happy with it! And is thanks to Andrew Reid reviewing and recommending it.
  9. Would you edit on an exlease office PC with a GT1030 in it? No, but with the budget conditions... yes. Same principle applies. Pick a monitor which matches the budget.
  10. Ah yes, of course, I forgot about them. But I'd bet Top Gun will come out before Avatar?
  11. I did say ""500ish", so yeah my figures are not too bad. And of course, I'd go for the F3 instead! The free slog update is 10bit 422, which is good enough for me (even though I own the RG444 update) as that is the best my recorder can do anyway.
  12. https://twitter.com/BRUCKHEIMERJB/status/1004433006822612992 This is what a DoP commented over on the DVXuser thread:
  13. Your prices seem a bit off, at least compared to what a patient ebay buyer who puts their time in can get: US$500ish for a FS100 vs US$1K ish for a F3
  14. Yes, I doubt Nikon will work closely with third party lens makers. As Nikon would rather grab most of the pie for themselves! However working with others I feel would be the less risky strategy, as it would make the entire Nikon mirrorless ecosystem much stronger and more likely to win out as #1 in the long run. Just like why Micro Four Thirds is so strong, because they have so many manufacturers backing it, this is arguably it strongest point in its favor. And sometimes rarely Nikon has worked closely with others, like at the dawn of digital when they worked with Kodak to make DSLRs. But yeah, don't think this will happen now. But I can hope they make it an open mount! Or at least widely share it with approved partners. That happened in a different era. When a new mirrorless could take baby steps. The competition is hot now, Nikon must hit the ground running. I predict this as well to happen within the first year. A general mass market affordable adapter which can do 90% of what people want, then a high end adapter which has compatibility with all the many many many weird and wonder variants of lenses that Nikon has made over the decades. There might even be a third adapter, which is the cheapest and lightest of them all, which only works with their modern E series lenses.
  15. The F3 seems to be going for roughly double the price of a FS100. However double of a very small price is still a small price! So yes, go for the F3.
  16. For everyone who thinks that 5" monitor is too big and expensive: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-5-inch-LCD-HDMI-USB-Touch-Screen-Real-HD-1920x1080-LCD-Display-for-Raspberry-3/32834839579.html
  17. ^ Yes, all this, of course the OP with their current budget has no chance of smoothly editing 4K footage natively without using proxies
  18. Well as we've said, including Andrew, if Nikon simply matches the quality of the D850 footage and nails the rest of their mirrorless roll it then I'm sure it would be successful. Exactly! Especially the point: "All they have to do is change the mount which is trivial for a manual focus lens" Which is why I believe we'll see 20+ Z mount lenses within a year of launch, because just counting the manual lenses there are plenty coming along soon.
  19. It is the one I miss the most! ? A bit of voltage safety is always nice, but by no means essential. And +4dB is only needed if you have applications you need pro line level outputs from your recorder. Maybe they didn't change it? :-o But just updated the specs to be a more accurate statement, rather than a more cautious statement.
  20. When Sony launched their first E mount camera it was a different era to the one we live in today, when mirrorless is seen to be much more important. But even then, dumb adapters appeared on the scene very quickly. As for X mount, again in the past (but a bit more recent), however Fuji is a massively smaller player than Nikon, so less of drive to solve their mount quickly than there will be to do Z Mount. (as the first third party to nail Z mount with decent AF will surely make lots of sales)
  21. Yes, the electronic lenses will take a little while to figure out for the third parties (if Nikon doesn't give them a helping hand, which is the smart thing to do, but I highly doubt Nikon will do that). But my point is there are so many many manual lenses out there that we'll easily see the 20 plus lenses for Z mount come out before the end of the year post launch. And even for electronic lenses, I'll give good odds that the first generation of them will come out within the first year. As Nikon mirrorless is such a big target, there will be massive motivation for the third party lens manufacturers to figure this out asap.
  22. You mean a GT650M? Then yeah, of course. My gut tells me the gap vs a 1050 Ti will be so large I don't even need to look that up to be sure, but here you go anyway: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GeForce-GT-650M/3649vsm7754
  23. I'd love an a7s / C300 fusion! My bad! I meant the Sony F65 From memory some ARRI ALEXA cameras also have a mechanical shutter (ARRI ALEXA Studio?).
  24. Yup, which I reckon the odds are higher they can do it within a year. (and can always use the Sigma dock to give updates to their Sigma ART Z mount lenses in the future as they further refine their reverse engineering) So it is very easy to see how there will be twenty plus lenses in total within a year for Z Mount from third parties. Easily more. Yes they can reuse their lens designs. The greater size of the mount opening matters rather little. When it comes to lens designs this just gives them MORE OPTIONS (which Nikon will surely take advantage of), but it won't restrict many (if any) existing lens designs from being used. No. But you can be sure they will for the new Z Mount! I hope so! Canon doing HD in the 5Dmk2/60D/etc was exactly because of fears of Nikon leaping ahead of them with their D90 and being the only HDSLR. How many times does Canon need to let you down before you'll stop being optimistic for Canon? 10 times? 40 times? 100 times?
