Jealous you have the nicer adapter, and the batteries with D tap! Interesting mounting of the monitor/recorder too, I am fairly happy with how mine is, but I can see how having the weight centered would be better.

It is a pity there are no replies here. I'd much rather talk about lighting than cameras! Although I know I am very guilty of always being "dragged" into camera discussions..... #hypocrite (in a way I liked that you never mentioned in the blog what camera you used! But I did get a peek at it by zooming into some of your BTS pics) Indeed, Tungsten prices secondhand are falling with the popularity of LEDs instead. And they're much cheaper to rent too. Had a director/producer ask me on a shoot in December when we arrived at the lighting rental house why we were not getting LEDs instead? (we were picking up a couple of Blondes and a pair of Dedos, plus various other supporting gear) Wellllll..... because if we got LEDs instead then we'd basically be able to afford nothing, or maybe one good LED light! ha Interesting. I should play around with various filters more often. Had last month a similar shoot in which I wanted to use a haze machine, but person whose office we were using was freaked out about that as a fire engine call out is VERY EXPENSIVE! But I got ladders and taped over all the fire detector sensors (using Styrofoam cups taped over, so it was fully sealed up) then the shoot went smoothly without a hitch.

I'd love to know more about this a6400 camera. Nope. But if you link to it then I could try it with the F3 on a future YT vlog video. The FS100 body is already very small. And for the costs/hassle of doing that it would be better to just buy a different camera! Such as a FS700/BMPCC4K/F3/etc or any of zillions of others. We're spoiled for choice in 2018! Big compared to DSLRs! But small/medium sized compared to cinema cameras.

We once burned through 13 batteries for a BMPCC on a music video I was a 1st AC for. For my own personal BMPCC I had a simple solution: Sony BP-U30 (or even BP-U60), a couple of those can last me on even the longest shoots. Well. Indeed.

EVA1 vs Terra 4k or Mavo vs FS5 II - decisions!
IronFilm replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
All solid reasons, as they're all so good choices that in the end it comes down to fairly subjective reasons at times. But I shall be a devil's advocate and give a rebuttal for each: Yeah nah, got nothing against that, I'm a bit of a Sony fanboy ish myself :-P Really? I'd read that was claimed by Sony, wasn't sure how much to believe that. But is it really true if you're recording FS raw any way? Tilta Nucleus M is very affordable now. Panasonic EVA1 / BMPCC4K / GH5S / Terra 4K are all great for low light too. Meh. Getting this for video! Not stills. And almost all modern stills cameras are "very good" now anyway, we've reached the plateau, it is video we should focus on getting better. Agreed! But Micro Four Thirds (Panasonic was dumb not to have an EVA1 MFT!!) and Kinefnity's KineMount are very flexible too. (the Terra/Mavo even has E mount) Is true for some of the other cameras as well. And 2K 240fps! A killer feature, and one reason I'm seriously considering a FS700. (even was bidding on one last night! But lost it ? Bid on a Lectrosonics SRb / 2x SMQV last night as well, but when it went over US$3K that got too pricey for me as well ? ) Certainly its price is appealing, cheaper than the EVA1/UMP/FS7/C200 competition. (of course the FS700 is even more appealing at US$1.5K ish....) But the big big downside is needing to use a bulky 7" monitor/recorder for 4K 10bit/raw!! A feature all its core competition can do one of internally. If only there at least was a 5" monitor/recorder (or even say an Atomos Ninja Star which could handle 4K FS raw, which didn't even have a monitor) then I'd find the FS5/FS700 even more appealing. All in all though, we've come to the end and my objections to the FS5 are pretty weak! (biggest downside being needing the external recorder. Oh, and no TC input!) This. It it not the FS5 which is your weakness here (except for the darn external recorder needed!) but the lack of a very strong B cam alternative to go with it. The a6x00 or a7 series is just nowhere near as appealing to me as a GH5S/GH5/BMPCC4K. -
Indeed, that is of course what I proposed to them when I found out today. But it is something they need to check in with post about first, so there is no surprises.

EVA1 vs Terra 4k or Mavo vs FS5 II - decisions!
IronFilm replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
I made the BMPCC4K + Terra 4K suggestion as there is a theory they share the same sensor, so maybe a better match for A/B Camera? But I dunno, some guess work here. -
Does it really matter? They're so very very different! I assume the sound quality from either would be broadly similar, as they're both recent but very low end audio products from the same company Tascam. And within the relative context of what each are, I haven't heard anything very bad about them. Base your decision on which one best suits you needs for that day, rather than which one might theoretically give you slightly better quality. As one is a bodypack recorder, the other is a field recorder. VERY DIFFERENT. One has a single 3.5mm input, the other has 2x XLR phantom powered inputs (plus a 3.5mm stereo input). Again, VERY DIFFERENT.

Looks like later this month I'm flying down to the South Island for a film shot on the C200, will be my first time working on set with the C200. Bit of a bummer though as the producer told me it was a C300mk2! But just found out today it is a C200, so no timecode input :-/

There is a HUGE difference between a 15mm and a 7mm lens Also a HUGE difference between a f4 and a f1.7 lens! You might want to be clearer in what is it that you want? Also are you sure you want a MFT lens? Many people like myself prefer to adapt lenses, for instance I'd use a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 (Nikon F mount) on a focal reducer No. Of course not! (in terms of FoV that is) 14mm is the same as 14mm

I picked up a few weeks ago a Tungsten Fresnel 2K for only NZ$50!! (US$34) Used it on one shoot a couple of weeks ago.
-
Well the DR10L vs DR60D are for very different purposes, so choose which one to use on that basis.
-
No surprise there! Sensible, it was either that or gluing everything shut! Did they only allow say ProRes Proxy?! I'd guess that. Yay! Nooooooooooooooooooo! Is this RAW HD? Or does the ProRes HD not read from the full sensor size? (like say the UMP does even if you're recording less than the full resolution in ProRes) Agreed.
-
I bid a few times on a FS700 today on eBay, but once the price got over US$1.4K I chickened out :-/ ? Probably shooting it on a RED Monstro now.

Hollywood Reporter - "In firing James Gunn, Disney hurts all of Hollywood"
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Relevant video that got published today, about the death of comedy: -
if only the FS100 had built in NDs then I'd find it a lot more appealing to buy in 2018 (as it sells now on eBay for almost nothing!).
-
I know right?! Why did Andrew remove it. Funny timing too, JWSoundGroup just gained a like vote option a few days ago and EOSHD just lost all theirs except the like vote. Having true line output is a genuine advantage (although losing mic out.... what?!). And having a bit more of a safety margin on the input voltage isn't a bad thing either.

Wellllllllllll........... if you go back and look at my post: What I did NOT say was: "Great news for new F8n owners"
-
Half wonder if this firmware update will lead to a slight upward trend in secondhand prices of the F8 original. Seeing as there will be less people selling them off after buying an F8n, and more people wanting to hold onto a F8 or obtain one themselves.
-
Yes, that is what my eye was drawn too as well! Out of curiosity I researched some of her other videos too, seems to be a common theme of not just exposed lav (kinda sort of forgivable for youtube vloggers) but even exposed wires!!! :-/ Sigh.
-
At one point I wondered if there was going to be a "Sony FS1": http://ironfilm.co.nz/sony-fs100-discontinued-sony-fs1-coming-soon/ I suppose the closest we got to that was the Sony FS5, did you ever try that?
-
Fair enough. Although by this in point it is going to be getting VERY bulky for the whole set up! You'll be making my Sony PMW-F3 look like a slim and compact set up.
-
It might surprise you but I don't read every thread on EOSHD! So only just saw this and, whoa, that lav in the opening scene is massive compared to the top she is wearing! The lav is almost giving her more coverage than her clothes.

This one mentioned by Saturday Sound Guy? Cheap USB powerbanks are another good low budget path to take, but I already have plenty of BP-U and NP-F batteries.
