  1. Years ago I posed the question: I ended up going ahead and buying it! In hindsight that was absolutely the right decision for me, no regrets! The old F3 to this day is still seeing usage! Just wrapped up a weekend of shooting with *two* of them side by side, for a feature film I'm being DoP for: But now I am starting to wonder, shall 2018 be the year I move on from it? What do people think of the Sony FS700 in the current marketplace as relevant in 2018 vs similar priced 4K competitors? Because with its price on eBay at around US$1.5K (or less! :-o ) it is extremely appealing, in fact I think I'd buy it asap if not for a couple of drawbacks: #1: no time code. #2: needs a large bulky power sucking 7" monitor/recorder. (I see Atomos will be shipping soon the Ninja V, if only they had a SDI version that might be *perfect* for me!) A secondhand URSA Mini 4K is around the same ish price as a FS700 + Recorder, but I really don't like the BMD 4K sensor. (Ditto doing a RED ONE MX for around the same price, no thanks!) A secondhand Canon C500 / Sony FS5 / URSA Mini 4.6K / Kinefinity KineMAX 6K are all other possible possibilities as well, but would come at a significant price leap vs a FS700.
  2. Just finished my a weekend of shooting with the Liliput A5 for the first time, and I really liked it! Was a nice screen (in fact the B cam would often be using it for himself! Rather than for its purpose: to be pointed at me, so I could keep an eye on the B Cam shots), seemed to be battery efficient (I think? I wasn't doing battery management though, that was B Cam AC's job) while being super small and lightweight. For its price (only US$149!) I think this was an awesome bargain buy.
  3. It would be this lens: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1044201-REG/tokina_tc_116m43_cinema_atx_11_16mm_t3_0.html
  4. Don't worry, we have a serious obesity problem too! Especially in some parts like where I'm from.
  5. Replying in an old thread, as I'm curious as to if maybe @silvertonesx24 has got a Terra now, and if so how do you find it compared to the KineMini and KineMax?
  6. 2001 is when I went to Auckland University. I had a friend who carried around one of those "brick" cellphones. Nooooo.... has he stated that is the reason why? ? Cheers for adding back some sanity to this discussion. Is crazy to read this "if the owner of YouTube says/does/etc" not realizing it is Google!! (welll... technically Alphabet? Which owns Google) People are so fat in America that it is now a national security risk. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41366-018-0060-y
  7. Sad news :-/ I didn't get to use it today ?
  8. Had someone nosey ( a friend of the guy who is financing the film, who was visiting the set for the day) ask me if we're shooting in 4K, without skipping a beat I replied "Yes we are shooting from a 4K sensor" ?
  9. It lacks however a tonne of the features you need in a field recorder.
  10. Yes, let's not underestimate the benefits of not coming across as "the DSLR guy" to a client. I just did a film shoot today (as a DoP! A change from my usual sound work) with 2x Sony PMW-F3 (and an a7S on a glidecam). Was nice getting to shoot with 2x F3 at once! To be honest I feel 2x BMPCC4K (if they had shipped already! That is) would have done a better job, or at least an equally good job overall. But there is next to no chance this would have been acceptable to the director or the client, due to the impression a big cameras vs a small ones gives on set. Sad, but true, sometimes you need to do a bit of dog and pony show for them so they've got confidence in you and what the final product will be.
  11. Hell YEAH! (been arguing for while for a positive lock MFT Mount like there is already for Sony E Mount)
  12. I just unboxed it. I LOVE HOW SMALL AND CUTE IT IS! Just what I imagined. No more bulky 7" camera monitor life for me!
  13. Mine has arrived! But strangely, I won't be using it on tomorrow's shoot. As I'll be DoP, and instead the privilege of using the new F8n will go to a newbie n00b soundie who I'm lending my kit to so she can handle the sound on my shoot :-o Fingers crossed Serial #39, the first and only one in all of New Zealand!
  14. It is crazy to think back when I started uni I didn't even have a dumb cellphone! How did I survive??
  15. Eh, I'd just shoot to SxS cards anyway. Or use an external recorder from CD or Atomos for ArriRaw
  16. What if she says "I Love You" and promises to be your GF?
  17. Depends entirely on the kind of work you do. If it is fast paced, quick turn around, limited/no post, then a C100 can be a good choice. However the C100mk2 sells at a hefty premium over the C100mk1, and what do you really gain? Not much, most notably 1080 60fps. If you don't need that, then go for a C100mk1 DPAF instead (or even an older C100 without DPAF if you don't need and won't to get a real bargain bargain). And is worthwhile checking the "superior" Sony PMW-F3 and Sony FS700 which sell for even cheaper prices. And depending on your line of work you do, is worthwhile keeping an eye out for a C300mk1 or C500, which sell for a massive discount over their original prices.
  18. When I first started out then NoFilmSchool seemed to be so awesome! I read it every week. But it has been sh*t for years and years now. I'm not sure what happened? Did it become total crap? Or maybe I became better? ha!
  19. I'm love to see an "URSA Micro" with the BMPCC4K sensor in it. Nah, just buy another one! ?
  20. Well the Sony PMW-F55 (and F65!) and Arri Alexa Classic are sub $10K on eBay now....
  21. Welcome to the club! Going to be using it this weekend for a feature film I'm DoP for.
  22. 6. Not everyone has unlimited mobile data to view videos, but they've got enough to read text.
  23. No one on earth has a switchable rolling/global shutter camera in mass production. And I think the only popular current cinema camera with a global shutter is the Sony PMW-F55 Or the reverse might be true, if they had global shutter option then it impaired the rolling shutter mode so badly there was no point in having it. And most of us would rather have a rolling shutter camera without global shutter mode than having a global shutter camera poor in low light and with less dynamic range (which seems to be the common trade off). Of course if you can have a rolling shutter mode which works 100% fine and then the bonus of sometimes switching to global shutter for a few shots (even with an ISO / DR hit) then we'd all like that! It boggles the mind why people would want it to fail, and yet they exist.
