Had someone nosey ( a friend of the guy who is financing the film, who was visiting the set for the day) ask me if we're shooting in 4K, without skipping a beat I replied "Yes we are shooting from a 4K sensor" ?

Yes, let's not underestimate the benefits of not coming across as "the DSLR guy" to a client. I just did a film shoot today (as a DoP! A change from my usual sound work) with 2x Sony PMW-F3 (and an a7S on a glidecam). Was nice getting to shoot with 2x F3 at once! To be honest I feel 2x BMPCC4K (if they had shipped already! That is) would have done a better job, or at least an equally good job overall. But there is next to no chance this would have been acceptable to the director or the client, due to the impression a big cameras vs a small ones gives on set. Sad, but true, sometimes you need to do a bit of dog and pony show for them so they've got confidence in you and what the final product will be.

As I'll be DoP, and instead the privilege of using the new F8n will go to a newbie n00b soundie who I'm lending my kit to so she can handle the sound on my shoot :-o Fingers crossed Serial #39, the first and only one in all of New Zealand!

Eh, I'd just shoot to SxS cards anyway. Or use an external recorder from CD or Atomos for ArriRaw

Depends entirely on the kind of work you do. If it is fast paced, quick turn around, limited/no post, then a C100 can be a good choice. However the C100mk2 sells at a hefty premium over the C100mk1, and what do you really gain? Not much, most notably 1080 60fps. If you don't need that, then go for a C100mk1 DPAF instead (or even an older C100 without DPAF if you don't need and won't to get a real bargain bargain). And is worthwhile checking the "superior" Sony PMW-F3 and Sony FS700 which sell for even cheaper prices. And depending on your line of work you do, is worthwhile keeping an eye out for a C300mk1 or C500, which sell for a massive discount over their original prices.

When I first started out then NoFilmSchool seemed to be so awesome! I read it every week. But it has been sh*t for years and years now. I'm not sure what happened? Did it become total crap? Or maybe I became better? ha!

No one on earth has a switchable rolling/global shutter camera in mass production. And I think the only popular current cinema camera with a global shutter is the Sony PMW-F55 Or the reverse might be true, if they had global shutter option then it impaired the rolling shutter mode so badly there was no point in having it. And most of us would rather have a rolling shutter camera without global shutter mode than having a global shutter camera poor in low light and with less dynamic range (which seems to be the common trade off). Of course if you can have a rolling shutter mode which works 100% fine and then the bonus of sometimes switching to global shutter for a few shots (even with an ISO / DR hit) then we'd all like that! It boggles the mind why people would want it to fail, and yet they exist.

I reckon BMD's approach of offering the user a LOT for very little $$, is indeed a desirable behavior. Any one who pays 100% with the pre order is foolishly taking on the risk. So now we've got that out of the way, BMD never promised the Micro would get a Global Shutter once they'd already started shipping the Micro. This seems like a very unreasonable point to bring up against BMD.
