Oh yes, I realised that instantly! F5.6 is a very common fastest speed at the long end of a variable zoom

Call out for beta testing shooters! EOSHD Pro Audio
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Nope. Mostly I've decided to stay out of the post side of things, and focus on the crew side of productions. But when I do dabble a teeny bit with that (such as when I absolutely must, say for my vlog) then it is Vegas (or even more rarely, HitFilm). Or lately, Reaper DAW (as thinking it would be handy to get a grip on specifically sound post for some projects). -
A Tascam DR10L (or even a Zoom F1) is a better set up now than an H1 with a lav. 100% agreed. I tend to feel that f4 on APS-C/S35 (or f2.8 on MFT) is the sweet spot for general purpose / run&gun shooting. Or a bit more or less is good too, such as even f5.6 on APS-C. (same as f4 on MFT)

I ordered that lenses late last year when it last went on sale at B&H, then bloody NZ Post lost my order!!!

Still a hell of a lot better than say a Panasonic GH1, and I've done just fine with that with many many shoots in the past. Still better than most RED cameras of that era. People need to see the context of when it was and that is was a cinema camera.

Yeah, why do we need JCS when we've got real spambots? (there is quite a big problem of them in the EOSHD subforums....) If he'd just stick to the technical stuff (even though he did have some strange ideas about audio) then I'd be glad to see him back.

There are quite a few interesting looking and "ok" sounding low low priced SDC hypercardioid/cardioids, not just the Samson C02 (for instance the iSK Little Gem, just to mention one of many others). But I guess the Samson C02 gained a little bit more extra traction in our little niche of filmmaking because of Curtis Judd and a few others (like myself) who used it.

Those straps can be found quite cheap, I have this dual camera harness set up myself from eBay. If you're a stills shooter then I'd very highly recommend it! (not so great for video though) It 100% is if you're doing weddings/events. Heck it is even a good idea in general while traveling just so that you've got a back up quickly at hand. Is only if you want to take your weight savings to an EXTREME then you'd only carry one body, for instance if you're bikepacking around the world. If you first (which is easy to do if you've got a 2nd body already) sell your GH4 for a good price, then I agree about switching over to a G80.

Yes and no. On one hand very cheap, and are "ok", but on the other hand you can certainly do a lot better as well! Probably because a shotgun has a potential market which is massively smaller than a cardioid SDC has. And there are already lots of people making cheap shotguns already. (could Samson do cheaper/better than an Audio-Technica AT875R / RODE NTG1 / Azden SGM-1X / Senal MC24 / Aputure Deity?! Maybe, maybe not, probably not? It is a very competitive market place out there)
-
Last year I did an entire month long feature film with just the Samson C02! Well, for indoors at least. Outdoors I use a Sanken CS3e or an Aputure Deity shotgun.

Keep that fast mid range zoom lens! You will find it very useful for event / wedding videography when speed is of the essence. Also for most of these shoots you really do not want to be shooting with just a single camera! I'd recommend 3 or 4 cameras (or even more....). So thus at a minimum you should buy yourself a second camera, even if it is just a secondhand Panasonic GH2. (but a secondhand G7 is also very cheap, and would be nice) Put what little money you have after this into say a Panasonic 25mm f1.7 plus a Nikon 50mm f1.8 with a cheap focal reducer. Oh and into buying a Tascam DR10L for the groom.

What have you heard bad about the GH5S? I haven't heard anything of note. (aside from some uncertanity around issues with their TC implementation)
-
If you're looking for 4K 10bit internal on a budget then you really do only have four options (half of which are not even shipping yet!): Panasonic GH5 Panasonic GH5S BMD Pocket Cinema Camera 4K Z Cam E2 If you ditch one of the three requirements of 4K/10bit/internal, or up your budget (say for a Kinefinity Terra 4K or a Panasonic EVA1) then your options open up considerably.

Is this NR? Something else? Both? Adding in some stock ambiance recordings? Sadly I use neither. -
Has any one noticed with anamorphic mode that the REDs (specifically a Scarlet-W) are noiser than shooting spherical? As the DoP is arguing the case that the camera needs to "do more" (such as desqueezing the image for monitoring) when in anamorphic mode, thus why the camera is hotter/louder than usual and he can't make it quieter. I did want to try out normal vs anamorphic mode. But had no hands on time myself with the camera to figure it out. Plus there were only shooting anamorphic anyway, so would have made no difference over all. However, thought I'd start a thread here any way to gather more info of if others have experienced this as well?

The Rode WS6 for a shotgun is quite darn cheap. Even a Rode Blimp is very affordable.

http://ironfilm.co.nz/which-sound-recorder-to-buy-a-guide-to-various-indie-priced-sound-recorders-in-2017/ In my eyes the DR60D/DR70D were the best bang for buck recorders for their niche. However the Zoom F4 now is only an extra hundred and fifty more than a new DR70D, so now I don't see any point in it after the price drop of the F4 to such an incredibly low price. Oh and I could record with the 3.5mm input (*and* the XLR inputs) on the Tascam DR60Dmk1 I owned ages ago, but... then you can't run a safety track on the XLR inputs as well at the same time. "Directionality" and wind noise have almost no connection to each other. You need proper wind protection instead. Likely at least say a Rode WS6 windshield, but potentially a full on blimp with deadcat would be necessary. http://jwsoundgroup.net/index.php Put on your best quality fire retardant suit beforehand.

I bet their VR cameras have much much fatter profit margins, even though the number of them they sell would be much lower they might still make more from those sales overall.
-
I agree. Is this camera meant to be extra small or functional?

Stone tablets must rule the ages!
-
Im a bit taller than average (watch my vlogs, I'm no Curtis Judd, but still you'll never see anyone taller than me in them), & this is one of th reasons I rarely use a shoulder rig. And I'd like to buy an easyrig! So I can have easy control over the camera height.
-
Oh damn, not the 2.5mm input! My GH1 cameras have it, so I have the cables for it. But it seems I never came across this anywhere else, always 3.5mm instead.
-
Hey guys, what do you think about using stone tablets for media distribution? I just came down the mountain with a handful of them.

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor

Not worried instead about the Japanese border guards letting you out of the country with your stolen goods? That sounds like a handy feature indeed. (but not one I'd pay $$$$$$$$$$$$ for!) Yeah for my purposes (judging at a glance where the frame line is for a shot) then even 720 resolution would be plenty! Actually, discussing VLC just reminds me that I already pretty often will stream a movie from my PC over WiFi so that I can watch it in bed with VLC on my phone. Yes I can imagine people (such as script/continuity/wardrobe/MUA/etc.... or me, sound!) who wouldn't normally get the luxury of a monitor on a low budget shoot would enjoy this being shared with them. So the network approach means I can share this gem around much further than usual.
