  1. Don't worry, even expensive professional recorders run on external power. And with a cheap powerbank the Tascam DR60Dmk2 runs all day long! Or even better the Zoom F8n?! Were you using Tentacle Syncs?
  2. Just to be clear for any one else reading: this is not for post, but for playback of people viewing the monitor on set. Should have made it clearer: this needs to be quickly and easily usable for when more than one person is reviewing, earbuds are out! (although yes, this is the approach we took with the GH5 on a feature film last year) Bingo, this is exactly what happens. Worth checking out if it is possible. However I'm doubtful, as it is pretty loud and obnoxious!
  3. Thought it would be interesting to share the BTS videos we take on shoots. This is BTS from a car mount shoot, and what I did to capture the audio:
  4. Did another car scene today, had to sit it out though and leave the recorder running :-( As focus is more important than sound! :-o
  5. Sorry, no idea. And I only know one friend with a MixPre series recorder, so couldn't easily test it.
  6. Sad to see that Cinema5D is still spreading their damage even today. That review in particular along with many others is one reason why I just stopped reading Cinema5D. Wonder how many sales of the Samsung NX1 that Cinema5D caused damage to?
  7. I'll admit I spend far far too much time on my smartphone. But often it is doing things like reviewing the shot schedule, or brushing up on the lines from the script (so I can cue the boom accurately on time, or figure out how to prioritize handing out the lavs for the next scene), so these are all very necessary things to do for the production happening right now. (on this topic, I'd like to mention how very handy it is when production gives out physical copies of these to you at the start of the day! Rather than having to be flipping through a PDF on your smartphone) However yeah also it is sometimes figuring out some business related things such as doing a bit of pre production or figuring out tough sechudling issues. (for instance in about a fortnight away, I'm in a tricky spot where I have THREE feature films I'm working on all at the same time!! Yikes)
  8. I take waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more photos and videos with my smartphones than with my dedicated cameras! And that is me, he who owns about a million DSLRs/mirrorless.
  9. Currently Zoom F4, within the year I will upgrade to either the new Zoom F8n or one of the 633/Maxx secondhand (or maaaaaybe a 688/SX-R4+, one can dream). Keeping around a Sound Devices 552 / Tascam DR680 as my back up bag. For these I'd just recommend people using the HDMI trigger.
  10. Speedy workflow matters. Tonnes and tonnes of productions don't shoot 4K or raw because of this. The last couple of films I have been working on both got shot on Arri cameras, and both are ProRes not Arri Raw. Raw is less important than some people think.
  11. Maybe get that plus just one Godox light, I think might be sufficient then for the others even outdoors to work just as optical slaves ?
  12. https://petapixel.com/2017/08/17/godox-a1-smartphone-flash-led-trigger-now-official-70-price-tag/ https://petapixel.com/2017/07/22/godox-made-off-camera-flash-transmitter-smartphones/ Like this?
  13. This is another reason why Samsung will be happy to stick with the cellphone market: https://petapixel.com/2018/04/20/huawei-p20-pro-vs-canon-5ds-r-im-stunned/
  14. Exactly as the subject says, how do I mute the left channel during playback, is this even possible with the GH5? If so it would be a life saver for ease of use with a Tentacle.
  15. But would any one trust Samsung again to buy their products? Or will they just orphan them again.
  16. Just because the 5Dmk2 was suitable and "good for its time" doesn't mean the D750 is not a lot better stills camera and does a lot better stock video. (note I've said stock, when comparing video from each. As ML raw is a whole other kettle of fish, and isn't applicable to many people or at all times)
  17. The 5Dmk2 is also hell old, and a greatly inferior stills camera, not to mention massively worse video performance stock. (ditto even the 5Dmk3 being worse than the D750 in both stills and stock video performance)
  18. Because sometime people are completely oblivious to other options, or they are aware of them but not have fully thought through their respective pros/cons.
  19. "Investment"?! If you don't already have paid work lined up then you're certain to find that C200 will be a very poor investment indeed.
  20. Don't bother with so called "full frame", ESPECIALLY if you're on a tight budget! Go with something better instead like the very affordable secondhand Panasonic G7 I don't at all understand your desire for DSLRs and FF, but if you must must go down that path then Nikon D750 is the best bang for your buck (if ML raw feels impracticable, which if you're shooting any kind of volume it is). Or just use a MFT system camera with a focal reducer, or one of the MAR MFT sensors (such as GH5S or GH2) which have pretty close ish nearing to APS-C anyway.
  21. It has been pretty bad with spammers here lately....
