  1. It is not about if something has "analogue" limiters or not (neither Sonosax or Zaxcom use analogue limiters, as digital is the future). Although yes, F4 for instance has better pre amps than a Tascam DR60Dmk2 (which already has the best pre amps of anything in the sub US$500 category). But it it is also about all the other features and functionality you get, which is at the level of a recorder which costs many times the F4. And was previously completely unachievable at anywhere near that price point. Which is what makes it so revolutionary! Like the HDSLR Revolution was for cameras, but for sound. (Bit under appreciated though... as usual for the sound department)
  2. A new low price for the D7500, US$850: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574663212&toolid=10001&campid=5335893884&customid=&icep_item=392017211472&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg

    NAB 2018

Nope, I got it wrong: Was thinking of something else, sorry.

    NAB 2018

That was the pricing I'd seen reported

Errrr... they're over hundred grand per set?
  6. Love to hear more about the production and pre production side of this, & what was the size of the crew you used? Any BTS? And your distribution plans?
  7. Impressed it is just Element 3D with a teeny teeny bit of Blender
  8. That reminds me. I need a hair cut! anyway, if you put anything above it be careful not to interfere with the airflow too much It is more the case that Arri feels they only own ONE really really good sensor which is ready for production (I'm sure they working on others). Thus the easiest way to get true 4K from it is just to scale up the size of the sensor Itself
  9. Wait a year until they're worth half that then buy them!
  10. You had to at least have a Raven pre order however ? "we're getting a Gen3 phone at Gen1" Makes all the furious speculation and predictions about how good the BMPCC4K will be seem like a drop in an ocean. Hahaha
  11. GH5 + Nikkors can't get much better than that in the low budget indie world. I'd just stick it out until the GH7 comes along
  12. I mean so rushed he can't even get the basics we already know right
  13. Their 4K sensor... & they use sensors typically from the open market. I think they wouldn't care
  14. Wolfcrow makes a habit of this. Rushing to be first. Rushing to be first wrong that is!!
  15. Ah HA! Found it! Was in this video: Mid way through he starts talking about the helmets specifically, then a couple of minutes later he starts talking about the levels inside the helmet. So yeah, that was just one example of the many little quirks you might deal with during a shoot which is different from the usual generic template approach you'll take on the other days and you need re-adjust for to come up with a new plan.
  16. Yup, sometimes setting levels depends on your own person level of risk you're comfortable (do you mind blowing the peaks if the person shouts? Yeah, I'm willing to take the risk the person won't shout! It doesn't make sense for this shot) and also your knowledge (read: crystal ball gazing) of the shoot / person (is this someone who talks quieter or louder than normal?). Plus then there might be some other completely random other factors to consider, for instance last week I was working on a film shoot about a guy going to Mars and inside his helmet the sounds were much "louder" due to the confined space so I had to turn down the lav pack gain settings more than I would have normally for this actor. Just got to use your ears and react to what is happening around you. Although in this case I already knew what was coming as a couple of years ago I'd watched the Matt Price interview with Mark Weingarten: Hmmm... wasn't in that snippet! Thought it might be. Ah well, that tidbit of info I recalled on that shoot I learned from somewhere located inside this longer interview:
  17. Oh there are always people who say "this isn't a true successor model". Just like I recall some people saying the GH3 wasn't a proper replacement to the GH2. Or people who didn't think of the D750 as deserving of the D7x0 series name which the D700 had started. Or heck even people who thought the D500 wasn't a proper replacement for the D300!! (really???) The only justified picky point about the BMPCC4K as to why it can't deserve to use the BMPCC's name as its replacement is its SIZE. Because yeah, it is pretty bulk, certainly far from "pocket" size like the name says! But then again even the original BMPCC was "pocket" in name only for most people, as it was a fairly big stretch itself. So this is just nitpicking. (after all the URSA Mini was hardly "Mini" itself! But I don't mind "Mini" being in its name) And the BMPCC4K is still clearly by far and by far the smallest of the current new generation of BMD cameras, and in that respect it deserves the name "Pocket". I am kinda hoping for an URSA Micro Pro, which is positioned between the BMPCC4K and the URSA Mini Pro.
  18. Well the original is old news? And the differences are obvious. Bigger, bigger resolution, bigger screen, bigger frame rates, bigger battery life.
  19. Rolling shutter performance of a few cameras:
  20. Blackmagic Design probably listens better to their users..... ? ;-) But yes, I agree, the GH5/GH5S still hold a strong position in the market themselves. Even with the release of the BMPCC4K, whenever it starts shipping. Be interesting to see high ISO results, and if BMPCC4K has a performance edge here because of the fan. Wait... what? I thought I follow Kinefinity news along really closely (am an admin for the biggest group for Kinefinity after all), but I don't think I've heard of this before. Could you please link to an example? Thanks. Otherwise I just shall remain skeptical about believing this. Probably people bring up the GH5 exactly because the sensor is different and thus has more unique points of difference vs the BMPCC4K (such as higher resolution stills + IBIS).
  21. Well didn't I already reply? The H4n is awful. It is like choosing to film video with a Nikon D90 in 2018, wellllll sure you could make pretty images with it still. But why bother with the hassle when a D5200/GH2/NEX-5N/Z Cam E1/etc are all so dirt cheap they're practically free, or a Panasonic G85 / GH5 / BMPCC4K etc don't really don't cost that much more. You'll get better results, with less hassle. But if you really must stick with the H4n, then make sure your signal coming in is strong enough you don't need to lean heavily on the H4n's pre amps at all.
  22. Nailed it. If a person wants to experiment with novel new technology then go buy a 360VR camera instead.
