  1. And that is why it could be a good thing to point out the flaws in Canon and drive away potential buyers from Canon. As likely Canon will only come screaming kicking to the table to offer us more, if their bottom line gets hurt. That is what is need for them to jolt awake and pay attention. Indeed, and that is what allows a greater variety of companies to thrive rather than just one monopoly.
  2. They have sold in past cameras for as cheap as US$2.5K But going "mass market" opens up a whole new can of worms, so they might not want to go down that path of radically cheaper prices than even that. As it is, Kinefinity is already very very cheap! Their most expensive camera is more or less the same price as the cheapest new RED.
  3. Because Panasonic/Sony/BMD/Kinefinity/etc on a per $ basis do far less "crippling" than Canon does. So yes they segment it a bit, but at least even at the lower / mid range of their selections, you're getting far better value for you $ than the equivalent priced one from Canon. Canon is a target of bashing exactly because of this contradiction of them being the #1 camera company and being poor value for money due to holding back more than others do. (am sure if Canon was say #6 ranked player in the market, then no one would give a flying hoot, and we wouldn't see the "bashing" like we do now in forums) Exactly. I've sometimes felt that Panasonic's camera division is a bit like the mainstream version of BMD.
  4. Conspiracy theory alert: Arikhan started this rumor purely because he has a heap of NX1 bodies he wants to offload on eBay at the highest prices possible! ;-)
  5. Do we can't lav mics, or on camera mics? (Rode VMP etc) Anyway, if we count only XLR mics, then somewhere very well north of a dozen. Easily. Nooooooooooo! That sucks :-( I was just tonight watching a TV doco about mail and it getting lost. Was watching it half in shock, at how useless the Royal Mail are. Yet it is fascinating, because over the years I've worked for every express courier company (except Pace) in Auckland (of those which are big enough to use bike messengers, as there are a few others as well but they're so tiny they're not worth mentioning if they don't have a bike messenger). And for *all* of these courier companies (except Sub60, as their management then was incompetent) I was working on pure commission (I simply got a percentage of each delivery that the client paid the courier company, nothing more, nothing less. As simple as that). The difference between that vs the heavily union controlled Royal Mail is stark! (although to be fair, they are two different but overlapping industries: express couriers vs mail delivery) Amazing what working for commission can do as motivation to work to your maximum efficiency, vs what a union can do to destroy a working environment.
  6. Hope Phillip Bloom does a Part 2!
  7. But then he would be without a second / back up body. I reckon any of D750 / D7500 / D500 could be a smart and sensible move for someone in your shoes.
  8. Am still waiting on pricing... nothing yet about the LF, I guess it will be their most expensive one yet!
  9. I saw a demo once of two people talking into a mic, both talking over on top of each other, but the computer managed to process it out into two separate signals! :-o Zoom has a firmware update for the F8/F4 to support ambisonic decoding of the Sennheiser Ambeo

    NX2 rumors

Well then I hope it is a Nikon D5200! ;-) (another camera I also own....)

    NX2 rumors

Oh I dunno.... I find Keynesian and Marxian economics to be quite funny indeed! ha

    NX2 rumors

Hope it works for the NX300! haha
  13. I also don't mind spam either when it is complementing me ;-)
  14. I wouldn't. I feel it is nuts to spend $3.5K on a DSLR/mirrorless camera to only use for video, only if I did a decent split of stills/video would I get the D850
  15. @mukeiei you are clearly a spammer! One of the mods should take care of you.... I haven't ever used a NTG3 myself
  16. It absolutely boggles my mind that people don't even just send out a mass email to share the final product. (or in this day and age of social media, bulk tag everyone in it when the film is shared) After all you make your film to be seen (what is the point in making it if no one sees it?!), and the easiest audience to get viewing it (& hopefully then share it themselves) is those who were involved in it! Plus filmmaking is a team effort, thus networking is so important, and an email to show the final result is an easy way to stay in touch with people and remind them you still exist. And even if it is just a lowly PA you're keeping in the loop, you never know what else they're doing or where they might be in five years time.
  17. It was my first ever shoulder mount, years ago, I still have it, and it still very occasionally gets usage when it is the right tool for the shoot.
  18. Almost never do that for vlogs Darn :-(
  19. Depends on what type of happy ending you mean? But yeah, have a CS1, and a CS3e now! :-D (plus many many more....)
  20. I am sure that was true of the GH2 as well! I bet at the low end there are some shoots which would have tried to stretch to an Arri Alexa, but instead now can go for an URSA Mini instead
  21. Recently worked with a director (for a long running children's TV show) who gave a call time of 3pm and also expected to start shooting at 3pm..... errr.... what???
  22. I was getting tempted until I saw that: Sony EXMOR R 1/2.3" CMOS https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1276833-REG/dji_cp_zm_000425_osmo_handheld_gimbal_camera.html Oh well. As I don't see the point really in doing that vs just putting my own cellphone on a gimbal?! Wow. Much wow. Much tempting! I think to complete this, we need someone based in Egypt as well to send all this to first for redistribution.
  23. The beauty of sound vs video is I have less to worry when it comes to storage space :-D But people used the GH1 and GH2 as well..... they're not unheard of?
  24. If you have a small minimal mirrorless camera then I totally agree with kye to use a Gorillapod and/or a monopod. Certainly two of my favorite ultra minimal approaches.
