Probably! But it is hard to compare two different products when neither have been even announced yet! (they might not even have started development yet on them! ha)

RED and Foxconn to create range of affordable 8K prosumer cinema cameras
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ditto drones. This is another point I should have made. The set of skills and expertise to manufacture and market high volume products is very different to the process of making and selling niche premium products. It would be a big risk trying to switch over from one area to another. (or you could just do a Hasselblad and simply stick your name onto an existing product) Partnering with another company does substantially reduce that risk, but Foxconn makes parts and not complete products (I think? I could be wrong), and they have no marketing/distribution experience in this area. But hey, maybe that is where RED's closer alignment with Apple might come from? (using Apple to sell Ravens) hahaha! oh my, so true, on both counts -
I am holding out hope that Tascam/Roland/Marantz will bring out a response to the Zoom F8/F4, as if they at is successful and a notch above then perhaps that might be my next recorder? But I'm so happy with my F4, that I'm in no rush, can wait :-)

RED and Foxconn to create range of affordable 8K prosumer cinema cameras

Imagine how much a premium brand's image would be harmed if a bunch of low budget idiots would start using them? I can just imagine the complaints already: "It has shit battery life! I had to buy these expensive V mount batteries, which didn't come with it in the box. Dodgy RED trying to upsell you on hidden costs!" "It sucks at low light when I'm shooting outdoors at night in the forest with my Canon 18-55mm kit lens!" "It broke my PC when I loaded these 8K files into my editor and it crashed!" "This dumb camera doesn't have a portrait selfie mode!" "The autofocus is hopeless, I wish had never ever brought this camera! I'm sending it back and buying a Canon Rebel" And so on and so on and so on the reviewers, commentators, social media, and forum posts would go on and on. Then of course would come the avalanche of dreadful awful looking footage shot with this new "premium" but affordable camera. Because their talent/knowledge/budget/experience isn't even 1% of what the camera is capable of. If this is allowed to carry on unchecked for too long, it would end up harming sales of their high end budget cameras as well! So while I wish Arri would make a $3K camera, I also totally understand the reasons why they wouldn't want to do that. -
Fingers crossed my next recorder will be a next generation Sound Devices 600 series recorder. Significant premium? I think Zaxcom prices are quite comparable to other recorders or wireless at their level.

Yup it is a mixed bag of pro / con. Pros: low cost (or at least I assume this is a factor for manufacturers) and no worries about if it is legal or not. Cons: operates in potentially very congest air! I wouldn't want to exclusively rely upon these, but if they're otherwise good, I could see a place for a few of them in my kit for flexibility. (for instance if going on a short notice overseas trip?) Yeah after I posted this, I saw the video of them, and realised how chunky they look :-( Perhaps nearly as big as the RodeLinks? And what I hate about Rodelinks is their size! Sony URX-P03D is heaps cheaper than 2000 euros! Still a little on the pricey side though :-/ Otherwise I'd have already got one! Am very keen to get a couple. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1259501-REG/sony_urx_p03d_30_urx_po3d_30.html

Agreed! Tascam was ruling the low budget sound world for years, with almost no one else coming close (that exception being Roland). But Zoom are crushing it with their new F8/F4! Tascam DR-100mkIII seems a little pricey for a two channel XLR recorder, is it worth it? I have been thinking of the Tascam DR44WL for a little small handheld one (if one pops up on eBay dirt cheap, say low hundred bucks), although I just noticed now to my surprised it has been discontinued! :-o I wonder why, it only came out in 2015 :-o I see also the Tascam DR22WL is gone too! (which is one I own myself) Wonder if it is because they both have WiFi and Zaxcom interfered there too??

This interests me even more than the 8K

Remember to do the firmware update for the a6000, if it hasn't already had it. As then you gain XAVC (the lack of it initially in the a6000 is one reason I purchased the a5100 instead)

So what? So long as you've got the right selection of lenses to match the field of views you choose for the shots you want, then it does not matter at all. I think you might be lying to yourself.... because on one hand you say "I don't care about specs" but then immediately in the same breath you place the importance of ONE spec above all others! ("full frame", or 135 format) There is an awfully mighty big contradiction right there! So do specs matter, or do they not? If specs don't matter, just go browse B&H, filter by your budget. Then throw a dart at the top 24 as your way to select your next camera! (you'll probably get a Canon https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Digital-Cameras/ci/9811/N/4288586282 Am quite a fan of the lens! Own one myself. Only bad thing I can say about the Sony 18-105m f4 (other than it being f4, but you can't expect faster with this price/size and still having a 6x zoom!) is it doesn't play nicely with FS raw from the FS700 (lacks image correction)

Not Audio Ltd? Sweet score for a hundred bucks!! Congrats

A good hands on look at the menus for the Zoom F1:

They've had a few changes in ownership structures over the past decade. But you'd at least hope with their long heritage they have a better shot than most at making a decent product. Their Marantz PMD-706 recorder is another new product they brought out recently: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1340332-REG/marantz_professional_pmd_706_6_channel_dslr_recorder_recording.html And early reviews of it seem to be promising: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=179428.0 Marantz might replace the Tascam DR70D as the default recommendation I give for a low budget recorder at that price point. (sub US$300) Will reserve judgement on the Marantz PMD-750 Digital Wireless until more reviews come out, but just maybe this might be the product which replace the Sony UWP-D11 as my default low budget wireless recommendation. (but doubtful, I don't even think Marantz PMD-750 is the best shot chance at taking the low budget throne, probably at #2 chance in the betting odds. My odds on favorite is the new Senal AWS-2000 at the moment)

But sound quality is everything? That is exactly why people buy high end gear. It is like ignoring the picture quality from a camera. Well, actually sound quality + usability is everything! (then is just a question of how it fits in your budget)

Dynamic Range of ML RAW vs h.264 / h.265 Cameras?
IronFilm replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
Ran out of likes for the day! But yup yup yup, even without knowing what company he works (& I note Mark's reply he works for several) for you could guess fuzzy's statements will be 90% on the mark just from my general knowledge of the real estate market and their demands. Exactly Exactly x2 Sure there are some that pay a bit more, but in the grand scheme of it, none of the real estate companies do (except for a teeny tiny number perhaps, rare exceptions, not enough to base career decisions on). -
Strength and noise floor are not the same thing. Resistance to interference is not the same thing as strength either. Details of design matter too, Lectrosonics has many more options for body back recorders (some of which are MUCH smaller than a G3) and their transmitters are much more bag or cart friendly than a G3 is. Agreed Sennheiser AVX is not a good choice for us. Dunno if I can see why an "upgrade" from the 100 series G3 to the equivalent G4 is worth it.

I'll admit it took me more than a moment to spot where it was :-/

I have a friend who is shooting professionally with the RX10mk2 + BMCC EF Sure it isn't a perfect camera, but is better than many others have used it.
-
I'm desperate to ask..... HOW? :-o Why? A Panasonic G80/G85 would probably be cheaper, and surely would be better for filming with. Lowlight with the Panasonic cameras is getting better with every generation. The G7 is better than the GH4 in lowlight. And now we have the GH5S! The new "king of lowlight" Plus with focal reducers or a T0.95 lens then you've nothing to worry about (as for "crop factors", ignore the F.U.D. from the competition! This is a total non issue) Here is that old GH2 again: And if you're a non-pro I reckon it is even more important to maximise your bang for buck if you're feeling the budget is tight. So that means secondhand Panasonic G7, or G80/G85 If you can only buy ONE lens then I'd say your budget is either way too low, or badly missallocated and you should shift some of the camera body budget over to the lens budget. (or look at cheaper lenses) This! Own a G6 myself, and the only thing the G6 loses is no live HDMI out :-/ https://www.eoshd.com/2013/07/panasonic-g6-review-the-gh2-redux/ So called "full frame" (i.e. 135 format) doesn't automatically mean better lowlight. I'd rather use a BMPCC with a 1" / S16 sensor in lowlight than a "full frame" 5DmkII!

Never seen this product before, as it is a brand brand new product that isn't shipping yet. But as a Marantz it should be worth checking out. Has a low low price of US$399 2.4 GHz Digital Transmitter (like RodeLink, no need to worry about what frequencies are legal) All info on the top, which is nice. But perhaps my favorite feature: "Receiver Can Pair to Two Transmitters". Handy! Annoyingly the input is a 4 pin XLR, which doesn't match up with any transmitters I own currently. Unfortunately it is not shipping yet, and there are no reviews of it online, but it looks like a product to keep an eye on! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1340330-REG/marantz_professional_pmd_750_2_4ghz_camera_mount_wireless.html

Jagnje, well you probably need to keep on waiting.... like I said, it is the 1" sensor from their studio cameras. Not the same 1" sensor as in the BMPCC with its high DR

Dynamic Range of ML RAW vs h.264 / h.265 Cameras?
IronFilm replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
Right, well if you're shooting with $100K new of still photography gear I doubt you're shooting alone, but with a crew (even if just a very small one). Totally different scale we're talking about here. Indeed! Constant light output can never match that from a flash
