  1. I assume of course you are remember to distinguish between the 4K and 4.6K when looking at reviews/opinions online? As the 4K sensor indeed crazy bad in lowlight, as you're basically stuck with just one ISO Have you considered the 12 Step Program?
  2. Not sure why I even bother wasting with a Vimeo paid account, shouldn't renew it.
  3. Oh hey an Arri Alexa Classic using a Nikon lens! :-D Don't see too many photos of that.
  4. Yup, lots and examples we can look at! The F65's size was a factor in holding it back. The Varicam S35 had the smaller Varicam LT come out. EVA1 & FS5 are teeny tiny. The trend is towards more compact.
  5. Ah cool! Didn't know that. Just had seen them during the 1st season when they were using Arri cameras for it.
  6. Overheating as many more factors than just sensor size! Remember it is a totally new sensor in the GH5S. DPreview gets a lot wrong, in this case the spec sheet is being lazy. Again.
  7. Look at any ENG camera from the last few decades. BIG body, teeny sensor.
  8. Think of pre-iPhone days, Apple didn't exist as a player in the cellphone market. Back then even in the USA you had Nokia as one of the major market leaders. A friend of mine has the Panasonic CM1! I've been tempted a few times myself to buy one. Wish 1" sensors with a prime lens were more common in smartphones. Heck, I wish I could buy a point & shoot with a 1" sensor with a prime lens!! But such a camera doesn't exist.
  9. If you do buy a mid range f2.8 zoom and don't get the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, then don't rob yourself completely of a super lowlight fast option! Get one or two primes on the cheap to help yourself out in a pinch. 50mm f1.8 lenses are always dirt dirt cheap, so get that at least. Although a fast 35mm or 24mm is likely more useful in my opinion if you only have one. Anyone can have this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1158443-REG/yongnuo_yn35mm_f2_yn_35mm_f_2_lens.html Better than nothing in an emergency. Or other options: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rokinon-Samyang-Canon-EF-24mm-f-1-4-Aspherical-ED-UMC-Lens-For-Canon/282813284219 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Excellent-Sigma-AF-24mm-f1-8-EX-DG-Macro-Lens-24-1-8-Canon-EF/272788802326
  10. https://www.apple.com/us_smb_78313/shop/product/HK8Q2ZM/A/red-raven-camera-kit-final-cut-pro-x Is this cheap?! And x1.86 isn't so drastically far off from S35, especially not if used with the KineEnhancer: http://www.kinefinity.com/shop/k2ef-active_en/?lang=en
  11. JVC LS300: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1096581-REG/jvc_gy_ls300_4kcam_handheld_s35mm.html
  12. What hack will you use? The value for money is off the charts!!!
  13. Yes, the day the average high end smartphone has 8K will be pretty dreadful. As 4K really should at least have another 10 year life span as a delivery format. A Sony F3 is seen by many as "not current" because it lacks 4K (even though the frequency is high I'm on shoots with a hired FS7 but they're just recording in 1080/2K!). Would be terrible to buy a F5 with 4K that then quickly becomes just as "outdated" as a F3 Exactly. We also need better functionality / ergonomics with our cameras too. Was very pleased to see the GH5 have a full size HDMI port, that is an important development. Likewise the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 was a *MASSIVE* improvement over the YAGH And now the GH5S has a timecode input. Those developments are just as important as higher frame rates / better codecs / etc! Am hoping the next generation will see built in ND filters like the AF100 / LS300 have (or maybe even eND). And a movable EVF, like on the GX8. Perhaps an additional SDI connection too? To have all this packed into a body the size of a large DSLR would be phenomenal.
  14. It is the Kinefinity Terra 4K that he has. A chicken and egg problem.
  15. Well you could use exactly the same lens / monitor / battery / etc on either a RED ONE or the Sony F5, thus it would be down to the rig's choice of gear not the camera body which makes it so heavy. Multi-aspect means they use a large proportion of the sensor.
  16. They use a Varicam? (S35 or LT?) Awesome!
  17. That is a very very slow process. Canon sends out many multiple cameras at once. And Canon would have employed people who manage this. (plus for people like Casey I bet they pay him handsomely as well) But yes I agree, Kinefinity should take their marketing more seriously and send out loaner cameras. They're starting that though, as Philip Bloom has one (and didn't Andrew Reid have one for a little while years ago?).
  18. I'm stating the quoted manufacturer specs for each for the body only weight (as of course it is meaningless to give a rigged up weight, as it can vary so much from one person to the next!)
  19. The F5 is heavy, but not as heavy as a RED ONE! 2.2 kg vs 4.5kg That isn't even close. But of course it all depends on how the final rig is set up. But certainly if I owned either then I'd invest in an easyrig.
  20. From the Kinefinity Facebook group (yes, his name is "Ari Rothschild"!): https://www.facebook.com/groups/kinefinity/permalink/1415470078563042/
  21. No, the Canon doesn't "win". Kinefinity with eND for the win: http://www.kinefinity.com/product-category/kine_acc-en/previous-accessories/mount-adapters/?lang=en Exactly. The market budget alone of Canon is I bet massively bigger then Kinefinity's budget for everything.
  22. Which ones? I know Shortland St is using the Varicam S35 (they don't get funding I am pretty sure? Well, many many many many years ago Shortland St got some from NZ On Air. Back in the 90's, for the first four seasons), but I can't think of any other kiwi TV series at the moment using a Varicam.
