Very quick try of Panasonic G9... It's nice, but...
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
43rumors has said this in the past, there is some logic to it, and I hope that is what Panasonic will do (as I'd like to see a G900!! ha). But who knows, might need to watch the next couple of product releases to see if this follows this pattern. Or not. And sadly the Sony a5100 has never got updated :-( A cheapie a5300 with 4K would have been nice. -
Wish I could buy one of these "outdated" GH5 bodies for $368! & it looks like a *LOT* of people are still shooting with Nikons in 2018 ;-) I am!
-
Quite shocking seeing the difference between the URSA Mini 4.6K and 4K, identical cameras! Except for the sensor...... But really, no surprise to us who have been following BMD over the years. Basically the Panasonic G85 is as good (or even a little tiny bit better) as the URSA Mini 4K for DR
-
I'd be fine with the D500/D7500 sensor being used, so long as they can then do full sensor read out for 4K (& not crop)
-
They said quite a while ago that the Terra 5K is on hold due to supplier issues. It is reasonable they now remove references to it on the website.

Yes, but obviously Nikon will treat their new system launch very very differently than any other year. (well, you'd better hope so!!) "Buzz buzz buzz" Thom Hogan has been going on about this for years! And I agree. Big oversight by Nikon. http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/buzz-buzz-dx-lenses-.html http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/more-buzzing-about-missing.html

"New Zealanders" is completely right. Or in a more casual way "kiwis" is also ok too. I need to correct you in how to refer to people from Australia however, you say "convicts". Or alternatively "sheep shaggers" also works. The meaning of "under" can be a little flexible, but generally speaking it means excluding the stated number. For instance if a person is six feet tall then it doesn't make sense to say he is "under six foot", as he is not *under* that height! Not at all, he is right at it.

They need both. Need DX to reap in all the sales and make $$$$ But need FX for the headlines and reputation to then sell those DX bodies, plus any few extra $ from selling FX is a good bonus too.

oh you might be surprised the variety of shoots out there! I have for instance done a short film which use a Canon Rebel DSLR on a panther dolly! Here it is, from early last year (the last time I used my Tascam DR680!):
-
There is no doubt whatsoever if Nikon will release a full frame mirrorless, the question is if they will do it in their first year? Or will it not be until later down the track, after going with DX mirrorless first (like Sony did, but Sony didn't initially plan to go FF, but Nikon is so they can plan the mount right unlike Sony who kinda made a mistake there) More pancake lenses please. Rotate the "Z" and it is a "N" for Nikon! ;-) People might think MF stands for "Medium Format" "Manual Focus"! :-P

Wait... what? Well you can see on the side it says 8.2mm for one of them, which makes much more sense of a lens for a 1" sensor. But why the hell does my google sleuthing bring up nothing about this when I was looking earlier, and why do none of the other videos say this? As a 1" foldable drone would be big news, they'd be shouting this from the rooftops if so! Surely?? Indeed, if true, the next question is if the camera quality from that 1" sensor is as good as the specs might promise. Next DJI Press conference is on Jan 23rd, we might see a DJI response any moment now.
-
Neither the Mavic or the EVO is anywhere near close to a 1" sensor. If they did have this, then I'd be much more interested in them as an option. To quote the specs: Impossible that is a 1" sensor.
-
Why? We have almost nothing to compare to. It has been many many MANY years since Nikon launched a new lens system. With one exception: Nikon 1, back in 2011. Which saw four lenses at the initial launch: https://***URL removed***/articles/9033467782/nikonlenses Which is greater than the "minimum three" I expect their new mirrorless system to have. And I expect them to take this even more seriously than they took Nikon 1, thus it wouldn't surprise me if they launch with more lenses than Nikon 1 had initially.
-
Well well well, I made a mistake! Very sorry about that, because I recalled reading the news about Nikon hitting a 100 million lenses, and then my memory falsely told me they'd done that "first" according to the reports I'd read way back then. Seems Canon beat them to it (but only by two years ahead of Nikon). I used the Panasonic GF7 a little teeny bit over NYE, that camera is truly teeny tiny itself! Hope Panasonic keeps on updating the GF/GM series. Oh, and the Sony a5100 is very very VERY overdue an update! I would be absolutely SHOCKED if Nikon launched their big mirrorless gambit with only a single slow kit lens at launch! They'll probably have a line up of five or more lenses at launch, or at a minimum at least three lenses. (twin kit lenses plus a prime, but even then I'd be very shocked if they take this approach, which is only a small possibility if they decide to take the cautious entry level DX consumer approach rather than the "big splash" approach) The success or failure of the new Nikon mirrorless launch might even pivot on how effectively their adapter works, or doesn't. This will be a Big Deal. (because of those over a 100 million plus existing Nikon lenses, plus many many millions more third party lenses with a Nikon mount)

Heresy! Posting pics of an a7 series camera in a GH5S thread
-
Fair point, but if we're talking about filmmaking then really this or a DJI Phantom 4 Pro is the "minimum" standard we should aspire to. The likes of a Mavic or similar really is just for vloggers or other people who need ultra compact drones (such as if you're out hiking in the wilderness, or if aerial shots are only your 4th priority). So just thought this was a more interesting and relevant new drone to discuss in this forum, but yeah, probably should should create a whole new thread for this instead? Ah well, too late now!

I'm holding off a little rather than being premature, let's wait to see what is the result once these ship and get used? Yes, apparently the input only is used to take the TC input *once* and then it relies upon the internal clock instead!! (until you again, manually align them up again) Which is a dumb as fuck way to do this! Yes, even without the issue when the GH5S goes to sleep, it is still an extraordinarily dumb idea to rely upon a camera's TC clock itself rather than an accurate external source. It shouldn't be updated "every few seconds", it should be continuously taking TC from the external source. And yes, I'd be very hopefully a firmware update is on its way (might even already have happened! Panasonic might have always intended to have this work right before the GH5S started shipping, even before extrashot pointed it out).
-
The YUNEEC Typhoon H Plus however is much more appealing than this.
-
False, as Nikon is well ahead with more lenses ever sold for Nikon F mount than Canon ever has done for Canon EF mount.
-
I mentioned YAGH in my article, that no more counts than saying "oh because there is a Sony XLR-K1M or a Tascam DR60D, then thus the a7S has XLR inputs!" Likewise the YAGH as an external piece of hardware, that doesn't mean the GH4 has a timecode input in the body itself. Plus the YAGH was just a god awful implementation of the idea. But still, a "first" in its own way. As for the GH5, it had nothing like the YAGH (unless if counting the DMW-XLR1, but that has no TC capabilities whatsoever. However as a way to provide XLR inputs, the DMW-XLR1 was a massive massive leap forward over the YAGH!). And yes, if you watch the video and look at the comment I quoted, then you can see that the GH5S doesn't maintain sync with the attached lockbox (LIKE ALL OTHER CAMERAS WOULD!!!). The lockbox might as well not even be there!! So unbelievably dumb as fvck.
-
Yeah if you're getting a full time income from video then it is a no brainer to get something better, such as a Panasonic EVA1 and adapt all your Nikon lenses to it.
-
No, I mean in this thread with what extrashot said. Apparently the TC implementation by Panasonic is screwed up, such that external lock boxes won't help at all
-
Did you even read what I wrote? Lockits won't help.

Same reason why on land
