Yeah if a person is shooting with a DSLR/mirrorless then they should just get Rokinon Cine DS lenses for identical image quality instead. Is what I did: http://ironfilm.co.nz/rokinon-cine-lenses/

What about once the camera ships, you could release it then? (as I guess they're trying to avoid raw clips being leaked before the shipping date) Or get a GH5S + gimbal for even less! If the shadows are simply cleaner than in the GH5 (which it appears yes they are indeed) then that should automatically mean greater dynamic range which is usable?

Generally lowlight outdoors is more the trouble... indoors we have access to electricity and lights!
-
You're missing my point completely I fear. For the a7S to match DoF with the GH5S then the a7S much have a much higher F-stop, which thus puts it at an immediate lowlight disadvantage which it has to first overcome. Thus it is not just a case of the GH5S being great at a given ISO, but practically speaking you'll find it works even better than the ISO suggests in a lowlight scene as you won't need to close the f-stop as far. I doubt Panasonic is doing that. Quite likely there are serious overheating issues they need to avoid with the GH5S. Unless... they made the GH5S without IBIS purely to pander to the car rig shooters?? I doubt it that they'd kill IBIS just for them!!

If you think MFT is expensive don't go and check out prices of Sony FE mount cameras.......

I think we have to very different kinds of shooters here (very very rough stereotyping here, don't shoot me!): Ultra low budget shooters / event shooters / stealth docos / etc vs filmmakers. The first type are often shooting with nothing but the camera and a lens, so IBIS is a pure godsend for them! For the second type, to use a gimbal (or slider, or dolly, or tripod, or monopod, or whatever!) is completely normal everyday business for them, and they don't see what is the big fuss about losing IBIS when Panasonic is giving us all these wonderful goodies!

It has x1.8-ish

I wonder what exactly is the technical conflict between those two which means they can't be included together at once? And will they be in the future, is this a hurdle that can be overcome on a future camera?

Exactly, that extra dynamic range being put into the highlight roll off is what gives the Arri Alexas their famous magic mojo Well Kai is an entertainer/presenter, not a real hard core camera nerdy geek! And he is focused on stills, not cinema. So always take an inch pinch of salt any time he talks about a non-stills subject matter.

For stills: 10 megapixels is a big leap forward from 2 megapixels.

Consistent exposure for run-and-gun shooting
IronFilm replied to UncleBobsPhotography's topic in Cameras
Shoot manual. Might seem like a big effort at first, but it pays off big time in the long run as it is the only way to go. Use zebras/histogram and even better... waveforms (if you have a GH5, or a GH5S! ha), learn them, and use it. Might use a variable ND too if you feel you need it. -

Quote from the video comparison with the a7S: I've been saying this for a long time that is the downside of the a7S, what good is insanely lowlight if your shallow DoF is impractical?? With the GH5S you can shoot both in low light *and* a DoF that makes sense for the shot.
-
Well, the live video stream said not much of anything at all! I think that was just the initial overview of EVERYTHING Now they are going into more details of each product? Might take a loooong time to get around to the GH5 finally at the end!
-
Now we know why Andrew Reid had been so quiet in the GH5S rumor threads! ;-) NDA was tying his hands! I half suspected as much.

Everyone has their own biases at to what is the "best" new feature! I also think the multi aspect ratio sensor is pretty cool. But of course not the "best" feature. Suspect in the long run I'll think the "best" new feature of the GH5S is something else than TC, but I won't be able to determine that just from reading leaked paper specs, and need to wait for the reviews to come in first. I half wonder if multi aspect ratio sensor and IBIS is incompatible with the MFT mount?! Strongly doubt it, but it is a slim possibility I'm curious about. Still got to wait a teeny bit longer....
-
And the only work around for DSLRs/mirrorless until now has been Tentacle Syncs with Aux TC, but that is quite non-standard and awkward for many people. Awesome when everyone is on board with it though! But if we can avoid this, then good news all round then. I noticed that too, haven't seen a "hot" topic on EOSHD in a while. Anyone know when was the last time? Was it when the GH5 was released? lol

There are two halves to where this heat is coming from: Sensor heat Processor heat Yeah processing power is likely less? But they're using a totally different sensor, totally different design, and it seems perhaps it gives off a lot more heat than other Panasonic designs. Panasonic GH5 will remain a *lot* cheaper than the a7Smk3, and likely will still kick its butt! Being more slickly implemented, and with better features such as waveforms and 10bit internal.

Well well. GoPro should have entered the drone business YEARS earlier. Or used their tech/codec to go high end and launch a cinema camera perhaps. "Something" Should have been clear the threat of smartphones meant the action camera business could only print them bankloads of money for so long.

Leica after all seems to believe red buttons add special magical properties worth megabuck$$$

Ahhhh true... kinda forgot about that. OOPS! But I'm going to excuse myself out of this by saying it "doesn't count" ;-) Because that was a very very VERY wonky set up. Needs external power. And most importantly of all... needed an extra purchase! The GH5S doesn't, it has a timecode input built right into the camera itself! (with yet another weird new connection... but that is nothing new for us soundies! ha) Oh, and Olympus has never ever ever had this. (be very interested though if you prove me wrong!) Nope! Not in any normal sense of "TC" in terms of production use.
