If they ditch a mechanical shutter to get internal NDs (which is what I hope! But I know in my heart that I'm purely dreaming ), then the original GH5 will remain as the true hybrid with the GH5s as the pure mirrorless video machine.

Agreed, the moment we got the ability to have interchangeable lenses easily/cheaply then the whole game changed. And that happened with the Panasonic GH1/GH2 generation.

From my perspective high quality internal NDs instead of IBIS, would be two steps forward for one step back. Or move to New Zealand! ;-) What are you moving onto?

Which doesn't seem unreasonable at all for the GH5! Considering it is RRP, and that is has been out for nearly a year. Quite similar to other camera secondhand pricing. Yeah, even with the old ancient Panasonic GH1 sensor and "slow" f2.8 primes, you can easily expose well with that so long as you work with it (not against!). I'd probably throw in just one 35mm f1.7 C mount lens (which are CHEAP! Was one of my first lenses for my GH1) into that lens kit, just to help out in a tricky spot when you really need that extra stop or more of light. Important point to remember is the GH2 took a lot more time to light with, than say an Arri Alexa does. Thus the Arri Alexa "saves money"! (however I half wonder... if taking that extra time which the GH2 needed, is what helped make the image "better"? Maybe that is what we should all just do instead, take the time to slow down and really think about what we're shooting) Yes. Like sound! ;-) (ok ok, and lighting! And make up! Oh and I guess the actors and story matter too :-P )

GH5 has been around for a while now. They've even released a G9! When you look at the tight timings of the a7 releases (although Sony seems to be slowing down for this third generation) then this doesn't seem so odd. Go tell Sony they made a mistake with naming their a7 series so similar

That is literally what I suggested to someone else recently! Also if you ditch the laptop requirement but get an ex lease PC, you can slash your budget in half! How are those Pentax primes btw?

If the new GH5s has a new 12 megapixel sensor then the original will stay very relevant as both a cheaper option but also as a true hybrid.

I think you're massively underrating the GH5, EVA1, & Varicam LT. I know owners of each of them who bought them new and are very happy with it. And if I was still focused on the camera side of things I'd quite possibly do the same too.

Or maybe he is saying it going to have amazing sound! ;-) With easy to access audio controls, TA3F inputs with P48, TC I/O, and analogue limiters all built in. Not the craziest theory I've read!

I quite highly doubt it will lack IBIS. But we will all find out very soon!

TC, 4K 30p 10bit internal, 4K 60fps, I reckon gives the EVA1 a clear edge. But sure, if E mount or variable ND is more important to your particular needs then the FS5 is right for you! And yeah, I wish the EVA1 had used a mirrorless mount (Panasonic has made many cameras with one after all!). Even more important than eND. EVA1 is already surprisingly small and lightweight, I wouldn't consider this a major factor vs the FS5 (vs the FS7 however? Yup). But it is also big and awkward then with an external recorder. If I wanted cheaper 4K raw in a big and awkward form factor I'd go with an FS700! ;-) :-P (it is quite tempting still....) Agreed, I'm of the view 8bit and slog3 shouldn't mix. Arguably the FS5 "copied" the C100 body! ;-) I don't think anyone really "copied" the other, they just made sensible design choices for a small camera like this. Oh, and plastic = lighter (& cheaper). A good choice for this kind of camera.

The way I see it is the EVA1 has a clear advantage for almost all buyers over the FS5. But EVA1 vs FS7 is: "half a dozen of one, six of the other". Just depends on the buyer which sets of tradeoffs they prefer. (which is also reflected in the prices of the three/four products being compared: FS5 cheapest, FS7mk2 the most expensive, but FS7mk1 & EVA1 almost exactly the same price)

I'd be fine if it was only ProRes But the odds of Blackmagic releasing a non-raw camera are close to nil.

Z Cam E1! 4K with the GH4 sensor. We have a good thread about that camera on EOSHD Olympus E-1 couldn't even do any video at all :-o

It is a little surprising and a little sad when I see so many comments like this. Because we're all media creators here, yet we're totally unaware of one of the biggest media creators on the biggest media platform of them all?! As Logan Paul was one of the biggest vloggers of 2017, his content has billions and billions and billions of views across all the platforms. For all the obsession this forum has about Casey Neistat, he is small fry next to the Paul brothers. Next people here will be telling me they don't know who PewDiePie or Jon Olsson are....

Was there any "quality bar" beforehand? I don't think so!! There was only the very high financial bar, stopping many productions being made. Which I'm very glad has been abolished!
