I've been distracted by other things! Away from Auckland this week on a shoot.
-
Is not just pre amps, in every way the F4 is going to be better. At only $200 more the F4 is a bargain
-
Fuzzynormal, they're probably also shooting with all their lights off too and expecting a brightly lit scene to come out. The reality is even an old and cheap Nikon D5200 should do well enough in 90% of people's usual "lowlight" scenes if handled right.

a7S mk3 will not have all the GH5 specs/features but with a FF sensor. I'll eat my hat if it does.
-
I only just realised that is the right number of asterisks for "LUMIX GH5S" Oh god no, please not another EF mount!
-
Nah, even the current GH5 I bet will be better than the future a7S mk3 GH5 will keep the edge of at least one of these over the future a7S: waveforms, full size HDMI, 4K 60fps, 10bit internal.
-
WHOA!! That is only a hundred bucks more than I paid for my Atomos Samurai Blade (& that itself had just had a massive price drop! One of the key points that helped sway me towards a F3).
-
Looks like that is not all their shotguns, just all with a 3.5mm connector.
-
I don't bother really with 60fps, but I think hitting the S&Q button will help speed that up for you?
-
Either that or even just the internal recording, such as yesterday when filming a conference all day long as the quality didn't matter that much.

Am I the only one finding it hard to ignore the JVC LS300?

10,000% agreed! & so we keep on waiting for an AF100 successor to complement the GH5.... -
Fingers crossed for a new Panasonic EVA1 MFT! ;-)

Secondhand has gone for as low as US1.5K ish: https://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-GY-LS300U-Super-35-13-5MP-Progressive-4K-Solid-State-Camcorder/253079448296?hash=item3aecb5eae8:g:q1gAAOSwyYZZ3834 -
How many 1st AC's were driven to tears?! :-/
-
A back of steel! Blames the lawyers is my bet.
-
Pity it isn't the Pro version, as then I could swap the lens mount out to something else than PL!!
-
Form factor, IBIS, and UI / usability. Because a "cube shape" means a poor man's RED?! :-P lol
-
1st AD?!?! Hmmm.... strange. AC perhaps?
-
I haven't directly compared it personally, but the rough feeling I got from reading about it online is that the extra cost (& storage) isn't worth the few diminishing returns. (as the whole point of the F3 to me, is its amazing affordability!)

Even though I almost always agree with you Kisaha, in this exception I would say an F4/F8/MixPre6 is *NOT* a "middle solution". As MixPre6/F4/F8 are very clearly low end options (even if they're at the top end of the low end, and have many features that only a few years ago you'd have only seen in the higher end ones). The middle range of option is Sound Devices 600 series (664/688/633), Zaxcom Maxx, Sonosax SX-R4+, etc High end is Aaton Cantar X3, Zaxcom Deva 24, etc I still feel the F4/F8/MixPre6 are *EXCELLENT* recorders which are amazing for their price, but it is good to keep some perspective here, out of the whole wide range of options out there they are certainly not some middle ground, but instead very much so sit on the cheap side of the price spectrum. http://ironfilm.co.nz/which-sound-recorder-to-buy-a-guide-to-various-indie-priced-sound-recorders-in-2017/ http://ironfilm.co.nz/aputure-is-shipping-their-new-microphone-aputure-deity-meant-to-be-a-competitor-to-the-sennheiser-416-like-the-rode-ntg3-is/ Seems you've just been unlucky? If anything, I'd say Tascam has perhaps a better reputation than Zoom? (up until the last couple of years, Zoom had zero "pro recorders", while Tascam at least had a presence in that market) But if you really want to avoid Tascam, then consider Marantz? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1340332-REG/marantz_professional_pmd_706_6_channel_dslr_recorder_recording.html

You could probably get two Panasonic G80 bodies for that secondhand? Gains better battery life, flip out screen, 4K, and IBIS And we're STILL waiting on an a5100 replacement?! It is tricky business crystal ball gazing
