  1. This is my thoughts on the various options for sound recorders we can choose from on the market: http://ironfilm.co.nz/which-sound-recorder-to-buy-a-guide-to-various-indie-priced-sound-recorders-in-2017/
  2. Outside China there are not too many Kinefinity bodies in existence. So you will have a tough search on your hands if you want to pick one up secondhand. There is however one KineMAX 6K on eBay right now (saw it got listed just a couple of days ago, as I keep a saved eBay search for them, so I get automatic emails), something like $5K ish I think it was?! Of more relevance perhaps to you, is just a few days back Kinefinity announced a new Terra 4K camera!! :-o So that is the camera I'd suggest you'd keep a keen eye on watching its developments leading up to its release later this year. (will basically be kinda like a RED Raven, but at a heaps lower price, and a better body)
  3. http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/09/06/sony-unveils-venice-36x24mm-full-frame-digital-motion-picture-camera-system/ "the camera’s lens mount can also be changed to E-mount (lever lock type), which opens up a lot more options for using a wide variety of lenses." Today marks the end of Sony's FZ mount :-( As a Sony F3 owner it makes me a little sad :-/ But I'm not too surprised (& the FS7mk2 was a small hint), as I half expected this day to arrive eventually. This does make Panasonic look even more dumb now, because they didn't announce their EVA1 with a locking MFT mount. (As heck, Sony can put E mount into their highest of high end cameras!!) "The Sony VENICE CineAlta digital motion picture camera system is scheduled to be available in February 2018. No pricing information was given on release." Reckon I'll be able to afford it with what I find down the back of the couch?
  4. T-S in video is rather rare, he can still stand out without using them. And if the budgets are so low and turn around is so tight, then they don't justify being used anyway!
  5. Ah fair enough. I also live in an apartment in the CBD! But luckily my GF seems to somewhat put up with all my gear chaos spread everywhere :-D
  6. Fair point about many real estate shoots being low cost / high volume shoots. In that case it is very important that you have a highly functional camera which operates smoothly to just get out of the way and let you get your shots! In which case the Panasonic GH5 is the clear winner hear ahead of any other hybrid/stills camera.
  7. Wait.... WHAT??? Are they seriously requiring you send in your 5Dmk4 if you want a simple firmware update??? Shocking!! :-o Oh wow, up to a FSmk3 already! ;-) :-D I'm hoping for an a5200, as let's not forget about the little guy! The C300mk2 seemed to pick up a little bit of traction after it got its big price drop. Be weird as hell if the C100mk3 has the missing middle codec the C200 lacks!! lol (but in return of course the C100mk3 will not have raw) I feel you created this "needs" list by looking at the C200 spec sheet then listing what it is on it? (and not including anything that is not on it) When you take that approach it becomes very easy to justify your decision to exclude others! haha
  8. Sure, maybe in five years time I'll be visiting Berlin? ha :-P Sorry, no immediate plans at all to go to Europe currently :-/ Yes, that is an excellent looking article!
  9. Public opinion won't sway Canon. Look at the massively popular Magic Lantern, did that spur changes to the Canon DSLRs? Nope.
  10. You swapped the F3 for the BMPCC due to the size? Couldn't keep both? I did a shoot yesterday using both my F3 & BMPCC
  11. I'm so frustrated with Panasonic that they didn't choose to use a locking MFT mount!! Or at least a sub-PL mount like Kinefinity does. http://ironfilm.co.nz/what-if-kinefinitys-kinemount-became-a-universal-cinema-mount/ Exactly, and you could still beef up the MFT mount while keeping it MFT! And you could make a positive locking MFT mount. Making it even more desirable for professional users.
  12. https://fstoppers.com/product/mike-kelleys-where-art-meets-architecture-1 I'm guessing if you do photography you have already seen this series? (there is also #2 & #3) There is a lot you can learn there! Of which you can transfer some of that knowledge over to video too. As for cameras, Panasonic GH5 / G80 / Sony a7Rmk2 / a7Smk2 / a6500 / BMPCC / BMMCC are your top seven choices to consider. Unless you have the budget to go for the likes of a Sony FS7mk2 etc Sticking with your current 5Dmk3 and shooting ML raw is a tempting option to consider as well, and best thing about that? It is FREE!! (aside from perhaps buying more/new cards)
  13. Nice! Then go ahead and move to a bigger market where you'll have more opportunities.
  14. I've been pondering over the thought that a better path to becoming a high quality DoP in the future is not by struggling up through the camera department, but instead via the lighting path. And on a related point, perhaps there is a better opportunity to make money as a gaffer than a camera op? (as cameraman is such an oversaturated area, especially at the low end)
  15. Yes, I kinda remember that being mentioned. But it lacks specific details, is it a business that is tied down to a brick and mortars location? Or is it a job he can take with him to wherever he has an internet connection? Or is it somewhere between these two extremes?
  16. Oh wow, yeah that would be awesome! A revolution even.
  17. I read that, and I'm very jealous of you! I'm a big fan of the TdF
  18. Doooooooooo it!! What is your current job, that won't hold you back either from moving?
  19. The C500 wasn't majorly popular. The C300 mk2 is playing second fiddle to the FS7 and other cameras. I wouldn't be surprised if the C200 fails to be a big hit for Canon.
  20. Heh, I'd say you're likely right, I was just going off the info in this thread. I think Yuneec is sensibly not trying to directly compete against either the P4 Pro or the Inspire but instead putting it in between the two.
  21. Yuneec is $300 cheaper, and its legs can lift up to get out of the way of the shot. Six props should give it better stability too. Plus in the medium term, I bet the price of the Yuneec will drop faster than the DJI drone.
  22. Yup! I'm a kiwi, thus my domain name has the ".co.nz" at the end in my signature: http://ironfilm.co.nz/ Sadly not in Berlin :-( Would like to visit one day in the distant future! (I'm part German myself)
  23. Cinema5D lost me as a reader a long long time ago. I much more prefer sites such as: https://www.redsharknews.com/ http://www.newsshooter.com/ Plus of course EOSHD!
