  1. Ignore the a7 (i.e the a7 mk1). As the a7S mk1, a7R mk2, & a7S mk2 are the only a7 series camera to seriously consider for film.
  2. Maybe he means the Tascam DR-10CS? (or DR-10X) I've mentioned it a few times. Doesn't have a mic built in however. Tascam have a few models kinda like the H1 as well, like the Tascam DR-22WL. Saramonic is bringing out a recorder as well: http://ironfilm.co.nz/saramonic-sr-vrm1-new-xlr-sound-recorder-coming-soon/
  3. If I buy two, can I get a bulk discount of $4K each?
  4. Yeah I read that afterwards. Even crazier! Yoi had multiple replies to that thread referencing EOSHD.com, even linking to EOSHD, but nobody was pointing out the elephant in the room!!
  5. Oh FFS , he is *still* carrying on his shenanigan!! At least on that site he is being honest on his profile that he only owns a Canon Rebel DSLR
  6. Does your son post under this account too? ;-)
  7. A Nikon D750 would be a fraction of the cost of a 5D mk4 by the time it gets released. And we're 100% certain to see during the life cycle of 5D mk4 a Nikon D750 successor (or similar) with 4K.
  8. You totally misread his statement. He was referring to cropping when reading out 4K video. Both the 1D C and 1D X mk2 crop in very significantly when in 4K mode. It would be a shock if the much cheaper 5D didn't also do the same!
  9. Yes Sony, or GH5.... Plus NAB is never that far away, what will BMD announce ?
  10. Nikon is putting 4K into their point and shoots. GoPros and cellphones have 4K now. Probably D3500/D3600 will have 4K but I was hoping it would come a cycle earlier .
  11. I'd be all over a touchscreen D750S with a 12megapixel sensor and 4K! Wish Nikon brought out another 12megapixel camera like the D300 or D700
  12. It is handy sometimes to lower the overall weight you have at the end of your boom Every gram counts!
  13. That is my hope! They want the D500 to be their only DX 4K option for a little while longer, so holding out on the D5600/D7300 announcements for a few more months and instead doing this non-4K "time filler / treading water" announcement of the D3400. Yes, with the D820/D900/whatever likely having a 50megapixel ish or so sensor, then perhaps they might skip 4K on this until the next iteration rather than having to deal with the downsampling from such a high resolution sensor. But D750 succesor had better have 4K! :D (and please stick with 24 megapixels! No more megapixels please for the D750 series, 24megapixels is just perfect)
  14. When a production is costing millions and millions, and is burning through thousands of dollars per minute, then yes having storyboarded out the shoot beforehand is crucial if it means saving a few minutes (or even hours) here and there each day. (however, there are even Hollywood level productions which don't use storyboards, or at least don't carefully consult them. So this is far from a hard and fast rule, even at higher budget levels) But if it just you, a couple of mates on crew for the laughs, and a couple of aspring actors, then is it really worthwhile spending every free spare moment during the past week to draw up a detailed storyboard?! Debatable. Even on a paid shoot, if you're only getting a few hundred bucks for it, why put in the extra effort for something you're not getting paid for? When there are so many other demands on your time. For me I often find a basic minimal shot list is sufficent for most of my needs, this shot list doesn't even cover **ALL** the shots. But is just a simple list of the core basic shots which *must* be got, then depending on time (if I'm ahead of schedule, hopefully) and inspiration, I'll shoot any extra shots on top of this that I feel will be beneficial. Thus this ensures I both have the safety of being sure the basics get covered (god forbid we need to come back for a reshoot because something obvious got forgotten!!), and I get the flexibility to be creative on set to grab anything I feel at the time is worthwhile.

  16. Your wish is my command, here you go: https://www.amazon.com/Saramonic-96-Channel-Wireless-Microphone-Transmitter/dp/B01AYDN004/ https://***URL not allowed***/review-saramonic-uwmic10-dual-channel-wireless-mic-system/
  17. Oh sad face! As no 4K. So seems like no notable improvement for video? Will need to wait for reviews to see if the 1080 has improvements. However a max ISO 25,600 is quite impressive on such a bottom range entry level camera! http://nikonrumors.com/2016/08/17/nikon-d3400-dslr-camera-announced-24-2mp-snapbridge-and-no-4k-video.aspx/ Wait... there is one meaningful change: flat profile is now included! Good. Thank you Nikon. Also I guess it doesn't have 4K because it just has EXPEED 4, while D500 and D5 have EXPEED 5 in them. Thus I guess the newer EXPEED is needed to be able to do 4K. Oh, but mic jack is removed! ARRRGGGGHHHH
  18. Well..... the cable does need to be fairly flimsy, as if it is too sturdy then there will be too much handling noise transmitted through it.
  19. Nope, what that link says is: "for the slow motion 120fps of HD video" Which means it could either mean 720 or 1080, being Canon.... I'd lean more towards suspecting it is 720 than 1080
  20. This reminds me, I have a dodgy cable from the blimp & broken lav which I need to get around to emailing RODE about. Hope it goes as well for me as you!
  21. NTG4+ and NTG3 are quite a different class to each other, NTG3 is the better one of the two.
  22. Do it. v2 is a big improvement over the original that you might read some sound pros complain about
  23. Yeah most people don't have particularly demanding needs and "good enough" is all they need for now. Unfortunately I expect the Canon fanboys will lap this up.
