I was half joking, as don't have US$220 to spare Already have a handful of Panasonic bodies (including 2x GH1, 1x GF3, 1x G3, 1x G6) for multi cam / low budget shoots (and F3 + BMPCC for higher end).
-
My experience with the C300 mk1 (which is similar shape/weight) is I really wouldn't want to use it all day long, unless I had to, even my F3 is better suited to rig up for this, and an FS5 would be far far nicer than either.

I recommend a price of $2, then sell it to meeee! ;-)

I'm guessing each camera in that "other" category got 5% or less. All in all, I am very impressed the NX1 came second to the UM4.6K!

One of the Rode 2016 finalists used a Panasonic GH2: http://www.rode.com/myrodereel/watch/entry/2564 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7caTq63QKA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DYPAIlduk8

This. Slow motion is so critical for music videos and many docs. Plus having 4K is handy, useful future proofing too. Electronic variable ND filter can be a killer feature for run and gun docs. I'd get the Sony FS5. Plus Sony 18-105mm f4 + Sony 35mm f1.8 OS + Sony 50mm f1.8 OS + Sony 70-200mm f2.8 (or the f4 version if you want to save money and/or weight) + Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 (in Nikon F mount).

I think it would've been smarter to use a RED Epic instead of a R1 for football, as an R1 is too long. Not round enough!
-
Surprised even the old Samurai Blade is listed as going to get an update!
-
Exactly. When the costs to get the best of the best only take up a small fraction of a percent of your budget, but it makes key team members happy and inspired, then that worth more than makes up for the cost!

I agree, I bet there are more professionals using digital medium format for largely marketing/appearances reasons than for real, noticeable, concrete differences in image results. Because at the high end of a being a photographer, marketing your brand matters even more than quality of result. As by that point everyone is already very good! Good job at breaking down the pro MF arguments one by one. And MF sure is not winning on a cost basis! (no matter how cheap a Pentax digital MF gets!)

One upside is hopefully in a few short years times once UK has negotiated new trade deals with other countries (such as HK/Japan/China/USA/etc) then there will be more free trade and they'll be cheaper.

Finished up writing a longer blog article about this: http://ironfilm.co.nz/scifi-short-film-written-by-ai/
-
The screenplay for this short film was written by an Artificial Intelligence neural network bot. The results are hilarious. Not even screenwriters will be safe from the coming robot invasion. PS. also the soundtrack is meaningless, the lyrics was generated by AI (although the music composed was done by humans, next step for the AI? No reason why it couldn't be): Screenplay can be read here: https://www.docdroid.net/lCZ2fPA/sunspring-final.pdf.html I'd love to shoot an AI written screenplay myself! Maybe I could feed it horror film scripts instead of Sci-Fi?

Just to be very clear... not shot by me!! I wish it was! It looks great. But I just happened to come across it, and had to share it, as it is a nice example of what can be shot with GH2 in capable hands.

Thank you for sharing!

The Canon is also not truly f4 throughout, it darkens at the long end.
-
Damn! Canon has never ever had this feature in their DSLRs? http://nikonrumors.com/2016/06/23/major-nikon-d5-firmware-update-version-1-10-now-available.aspx/
-
Could somebody define what is this "motion cadence", in a way you can measure?
-
Indeed, if it is quality 1080 (not mushy Canon 1080) dropping down to 720 just for the subtle moves in post within the 1080 frame can often work and not be noticed by the end viewer.

Wellll.......... only in the last few days or week or so have I got: a) a battery charger for the batteries! (as the camera was meant to come with this from the seller, but it didn't and I waited aaaaaages for him to get it to me! So eventually I just bought one myself from eBay) b) ultra fast CF cards from a job that owed me it (the editor lost my SD cards!! So she gave me these instead) Thus I haven't got around to trying it out yet. But not too bothered, the whole thing only cost me US$35! ;-) I've only got it because it is so crazy ultra cheap, but I wouldn't recommend it. It can't even record audio! Just buy a BMD Micro Cinema Camera instead, it will be 10000x times more painless and 100% better.
-
I'd go even further and say we have evidence it is NOT the same sensor!
-
Depends on how your find it and your needs, see how you find the 18-105 at first. And perhaps buy the 35mm f1.8 lens as that is a cheap general purpose prime which also has optical image stabilisation. Want lenses do you have currently?
-
Remember that it is an APS-C lens, so if you want 4K you should rent the A7r mk2 instead. I've been impressed with AF from my A5100, so I expect the A7r mk2 will be even better. It won't be perfect, but is likely very "good enough" for your DIY styled project. Another to consider is the Samsung NX1 which is meant to have godly AF, and had a firmware update which gave it in camera stabilization. You could pair it with the Samsung 30mm f2 pancake lens.
-
It is a pity that it is not a 4K 10bit internal camera like the FS7, but otherwise in most other areas it is a great alternative to the FS7 in a smaller and cheaper package. With an external recorder and the FS raw update that might overcome the lack of 4K 10bit issue, as I know one owner with an FS5 who I'm friends with and loves it like that, but I haven't really looked into it myself.
-
That is the Sony FS5. Terra will lack AF. And won't have internal ND filters, unless it is aftermarket design using the KineMount (which I hope so! It is very possible). They really put the run and gun into "run and gun"!! :-o
