  1. Personally I think the A7s mk2 is in a tough price spot, as that is such a large chunk of change to buy an A7s mk2 when an FS5 would be so much much much better! Yes the FS5 is even more expensive, but by the point you're at this level, the extra overall cost vs the revenue you'd earn from it in the next couple of years, I don't think it is such a big difference (of course the FS5 is itself in a tough spot... when the FS7 is only a little more than the FS5! And so the slippery slope continues.... I've seen F5 go for amazingly good prices secondhand? Or how about that F65....). However.... A7s mk1 are now going secondhand for heaps cheaper than A7s mk2 would cost. And as you just want good quality HD, and don't care about 4K. Then it seems A7s mk1 is the obvious choice over the A7s mk2. The BMMCC is the most interesting of them all. It is very new so not that much info out there, but already a few interesting ways to rig it up: http://cheesycam.com/custom-mods-for-blackmagic-design-micro-cinema-camera-w-diy-remote-handle/ And with time even more and more will be made, by third parties such as Zacuto or Wooden Camera (and then knock offs from China after that, at a fraction of their price). Am especially looking forward to rigs with handles that communicate with the BMMCC! Plus the BMPCC has already been favorably compared with and shot with RED cameras, the BMMCC is following in the BMPCC's heritage, I'm sure you'd like the BMMCC in some role or another. It would make for a great B cam on RED shoots as well! (such as an action camera, or drone camera) Final thought for high quality 1080 footage: Sony PMW-F3 with BMD Video Assist (or Samurai Blade). Don't think there is a better bang for buck 1080 camera than that! (can go for as little as US$1500 or less secondhand) Is the one I own and frequently shoot on myself. Together with a BMPCC (and have a Panasonic G6 for the ultra low budget shoots :-P ). EDIT: Final final thoughts: How about a Kinefinity KineMINI 4K? A battle tested one loaded with all the options is available now for a mere US$3.5K!! :-o That is a downright insane deal for so much camera! It has the option of interchangeable mounts, raw 4K, slow motion, uses cheap standard off the shelf SSDs, can use focal reducers to get that VistaVision / Full Frame look. Could be perfect for a RED shop where the productions doesn't have the budget to use their RED.
  2. Hopefully! I kinda want to get an A7s mk1 as my "matching" gimbal camera with my F3. Am borrowing an A7s mk1 for the short film shoot this weekend down in Hamilton. But mostly I'm trying hard to resist buying any more camera gear! Or at least not until levels of paid work improves for me. All good, gives more time for the A7s mk1 secondhand prices to drop even lower ;-) And wouldn't it be a miracle if the Sony Hackers discover Sony left an option for internal 4K in the A7s mk1 firmware but it was disabled and is a simple switch to turn it back on ;-) :-D
  3. If the client "needs" 4K then I can easily enough borrow a GH4 or similar from a friend for free / dirt cheap, otherwise if they *NEED* 4K then they ought to have the budget so I can rent an FS7/F5 and do it properly. For everything else.... there is the F3! (plus with a small gimbal camera, in my case the BMPCC. But an A6300 / A7s mk1 / BMMCC could all also fill this role cheaply)
  4. I do hate those idiots unnecessarily returning purchased items, and increasing the costs for good honest folk like myself. I doubt Pocket 2 is coming any time soon at all, as BMD does not have a history of releasing "v2" of cameras, have they EVER done that? Nope!! Instead BMD has a habit of releasing products which fit a slightly different niche than their previous cameras. For instance we never saw a BMCC v2, instead they released a 4K (BMPC4K) and smaller version (BMPCC). Ditto the BMPC4K, no BMPC4K v2 got announced, instead they announced a bigger more full featured camera: URSA 4K Ditto the BMPCC, no BMPCC v2, instead a BMMCC got announced. That is too slow. That is wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy TOO SLOW!!! Only use SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s cards. And nothing else. I can't find anywhere the pricing for this new Ikan VL35 monitor?!
  5. I think by far and by far the best ultra affordable option is the Aputure FineHD VS-2 monitor, however it is a little big... wish they had it available in a 5 inch option! http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/12/21/a-7-full-hd-hdmi-field-monitor-for-less-than-200-aputure-launch-vs-1-finehd-monitor/ Keep an eye out for the Nikon DL18-50 Has a fast f1.8 lens, large 1" sensor, shoots 4K, and has a *MASSIVELY WIDE* 18mm FF FoV!! :-o Much much wider than the 24mm on the RX100 IV, and better if you want to use it as a PoV camera with a very wide FoV. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1234156-REG/nikon_26512_dl18_50_f_1_8_2_8_digital_camera.html Ohhhh..... that is one cool benefit of the BMD Micro over the Pocket!
  6. Really?? I'd be surprised if it does. That really is something I'd notice and remember! As I've got so many BP-U batteries already. What we do know is the KineGrip v2 will support a BP-U30 (think it runs on it for about an hour ish??? Or something? I forget that detail exactly).
  7. I'd strongly lean towards using the D3300 then, as it is a solid enough camera. Pity it has no flip out screen though. I'd suggest getting a gimbal. Either a small one for a Xiaomi Yi camera or a bigger Came TV Single for a bigger (but still small) camera.
  8. We haven't seen closeup details of the grip yet. So dunno if the bigger BP-U60 might squeeze in there. I hope so.... but strongly doubt it. I already own a bunch of BP-U60 batteries to power various items of mine: Sony PMW-F3 / BMPCC / Sound Devices 552
  9. It is getting up to nearly ish a year later and I'm still happy with my purchase :-)
  10. It could be priced higher, US$2K or even US$2.5K for the 4K sensor in the Terra body. A lot of us are really liking the concept of this smaller form factor of the Terra body. If they could squeeze in the 4K sensor into that as well, many of us would be perfectly content with that image. And a low low price is what would get many of us to take the plunge on ordering from overseas a camera that is seen by many (unfortunately) as a fringe player. And then the success of that is what will lead to people taking the plunge on ordering the higher value products from Kinefinity.
  11. Waves hi! :-) Please do this: Or even one like the BMD Micro Cinema Camera which doesn't have a screen. I'm fine with that.
  12. You can maybe get a Sony RX100 mk3 second hand for $500 Has a nice biggish 1 inch sensor, very compact size, and a flip up screen for selfies. Get a Rode SmartLav to record audio with your smartphone. And maybe a Xiaomi Yi action camera for more sporting activities? If you're into that kinda thing. Is only $65
  13. I've been saying to a real estate film guy he should do this for the photos from the houses.
  14. Aputure FineHD VS-2 is the one to get if you don't need a recorder. Very affordable price!!
  15. Which is the same time frame as when they first announced the Terra.
  16. But FS7 raw is linear raw which is the key problem. Those bits are not spread out equally over all the stops. If you did then you wouldn't have a problem. This is why shooting slog with a compressed codec makes more sense with the FS7 than shooting raw.
  17. How to make VR porn: In other totally unrelated news.... I've just ordered all the parts for my own VR camera.
  18. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1132726-REG/cable_techniques_ct_sg3op_12_3_5mm_trs_to_xlr3_m.html Do you mean this? Then a second XLR to mini XLR cable. http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-your-own-audiophile-quality-speaker-cables/ https://bgilbertsound.com/how-to-make-cables/ Or just make your own!
  19. How can Magic Leap be the world's most secretive start up if there is a video about them?!
  20. LOL so hard that they have a pic of an EX3 in the B&H photo
  21. Keep a diary here if you do!! I'd find it absolutely fascinating. What do you think is the appropriate level budget to charge clients for a GoPro rig level quality 360 video?
  22. So basically it is a Tascam DR-10X with a microphone glued on permanently, and a hotshoe. Still, a really good idea. A strong competitor to the Shure VP83F LensHopper & Saramonic Vmic Recorder Video Microphone. But I just wish Zaxcom had not crushed legally the sales of Tascam DR-10C in the United States, as that is what this link I'd hoped would be about.
  23. whoa, that would be some trippy sh*t! Could really mess around with this in AE I suppose
  24. Wow that makes for a nice fast wide angle lens!
