That would mean squeezing a LOT of glass into a very very small space! I somehow doubt if it will happen? But we can hope! ha :-D
-
Nah, I'm going to choose an F3 over a R1 MX nearly every time for my uses :-D And you can get two or three or even four F3 cameras bodies for one R1 MX!
-
I feel you... last night I just wanted to buy an AC tool bag for $35, and now I've got $165 sitting in my B&H cart as I debate if I should pull the trigger or not!

Yes, it does make me rather glad I went for the Sony PMW-F3 instead! :-D Not only is it heaps cheaper, I got to have it *NOW* I see the RED Epic M ended up going for US$15K! Waaaaay more than the bidding was at when this thread was started. But that was to be expected. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231865245670 A Sony F5 is *heaps* cheaper than that! Heck, that RED (from a seller with *ZERO* feedback) went for a whole 50% more than what you could buy now an F5 with ease right away. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F5-CineAlta-4K-PMW-Series-Professional-HD-Camcorder-3033-/151795865954 You could buy an F5 *and* an FS5 for the same price as that! I know which I'd prefer.... the F5 plus extras :-D With a little digging and patience you could get an F5 even cheaper, such as this one which sold recently: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F5-Camcorder-bundle-WITH-LCD-Color-viewfinder-Cards-Card-reader-case-/291691488274

LED technology *AND* battery technology is moving ahead very fast, so I'd be hopeful within a few years we'd be seeing this situation fixed cantsin. But for now.... yes I agree with you :-/ Kinda strange really, as some would argue it is the *MOST* important area of filmmaking (well... aside from "it is all about the story" yadda yadda), yet it has seen the least amount of technological progress out of all those areas you listed. I think the closest thing we have to "small, affordable, portable" is a set of Dedolights with a bunch of V mount batteries and lighting modifiers. But that is far from cheap, but it is what I want/hope to get soon

Better get your hat seasonings and sauces ready..... If the C100 mk3 gets 4K it is only because it will be well into the product cycle, meanwhile Sony will probably have released two more cameras in that general price bracket already.
-
I'd include in the Panasonic G7 as well! A Panasonic G7 should be the #1 4K camera a person first looks at Some people even prefer it over the GH4. Best feature about it is..... CHEAP! :-D And this is more important than you think, as it is still very very early days for 4K in consumer stills cameras. I bet within a year or two we'll see a huge flood of new 4K cameras having been released. So just get a camera for *now*, then upgrade to something else in the future. And the G7 is perfect for that case for a *now* 4K camera.

Well.... I have just had a frustrating attempt at communicating with the seller for this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Miloboo-carbon-fiber-4-sections-microphone-Handheld-Grip-Rig-Support-Rod-Flash-Light-LED-Light-Boom/32332844915.html Because I wanted clarification on the tip used at the end of the boom pole (if I could run internal cabling through it, like on other Miloboo Z901 ones I've seen listed). First response: a single happy face emoji! :-o What the hell, that is no kind of response at all Thinking that perhaps they did not understand me, I tried again but in Chinese (" 如果你觉得用英文不方便表达,也可以用中文。"). Second response: the single word "sorry". Huh, seriously? Hmmmmm..... I'll take this as a hint to buy from a different seller instead. Thus I feel I shall go with this one here instead: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Miloboo-carbon-fiber-4-sections-microphone-Handheld-Grip-Rig-Support-Rod-Flash-Light-LED/32278111738.html

A bit worried the jello on the A6300 might rule it out as its use as a crazy gimbal camera

I'm on the fence about which one of these two cheapie boom poles to get, and would appreciate some feedback. I guess the "On Stage" is the better one, however the "Cavision" is *half* the weight! Which I reckon could be a significant factor by the end of a long day. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/770230-REG/On_Stage_56791_MBP7000_Microphone_Boom_Pole.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/442571-REG/Cavision_SGP323_SGP323_2_3m_Glass_Fiber.html This also looks tempting, is nearly 3m and is only about a hundred bucks (with FREE shipping! An important consideration when it is often expensive to get to NZ :-/ ). So a little more expensive than either of the other two, but has hugely more reach. (& from the pictures it looks like it allows internal cabling too!) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miliboo-Z901-87-5-294cm-Carbon-Fiber-Mic-Microphone-Telescoping-Boom-Pole-Rod-/361275326307 Oohhh.... Aliexpress has the Miliboo Z901 at an even cheaper price: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Miloboo-carbon-fiber-4-sections-microphone-Handheld-Grip-Rig-Support-Rod-Flash-Light-LED-Light-Boom/32332844915.html Has a slightly different tip however to the eBay one however So don't think this one would allow internal cabling?? Thus I think the extra $12 to get a tip that allows internal cabling (plus a few other extras like a case for the pole) would be worth it: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Miloboo-carbon-fiber-4-sections-microphone-Handheld-Grip-Rig-Support-Rod-Flash-Light-LED/32278111738.html Thoughts?

Exactly, you can get a FS7 for very similar money to a C300 (a bit more than a mk1, heaps less than a mk2) and you get a camera in the FS7 which is overall better than either. Unless you have some special circumstances, it is hard to see the logic in going for a C300 over an FS7/FS5/F3 option.

Kinefinity for me is stuck in a little bit of a "Chicken and Egg Situation", as it looks great the specs and the footage, buuuuut.... the lack of people using it, means there is not much of a community to call on for help or to learn from. Neither does it have the brand name awareness that other brands have, like RED or even BMD!! So if you feel like taking an the challenge of an uphill battle with a Kinefinity then you could find great potential here! But I'd rather go for a BMD URSA Mini 4.6K instead.
-
MX sensor is getting to be pretty old too. Rather have the BMD 4.6K
-
No matter which I person is going for, I wouldn't been keen to recommend either..... C300 mk1 is less powerful than a Sony F3, yet a Sony F3 costs much less. C300 mk2 is less powerful than a Sony FS7, yet a Sony FS7 costs much less.

I haven't exactly measured it yet, I'll need to get back to you on that

Very cheap, and elegant: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMCC-4K-BMPCC-Camera-DV-Battery-Mount-Plate-Power-Supply-For-Sony-BP-U60-U30-/231491513424?hash=item35e5f82c50:g:fIcAAOSwT6pVilrh I think your proposal though wins slightly for overall value for money. But I think for elegance, and overall versatility (as BP-U is a very common battery format that gets used in lots of things), I think mine takes the edge over yours. In the end, which is a best for a person, depends on their personal preferences/needs

Well said! I am very tempted to move over to Sony A6300 if I can save up for it to match with my F3 for a B cam. But.... even for me the odds are very high I might just as well get a G7 instead (or as well?), as my multi camera and low budget camera set up is all based around Panasonic. 2x GH1 + G6 + G3 + GF3 Used 2x GH1 today on a no budget music video shoot so we could do it fast on dual matching cameras. Used my G6 today on a club party promo video (and F3 would've been far too bulky, and RISKY, to use in that *crazy* environment), and gave my GH1 body to my second shooter to grab a few extra shots during the night. And I'll be using my whole set of Panasonic cameras tomorrow on a wedding. So yup, they're still getting a good workout from me! Thus a G7 is very tempting. But I'm in no rush I can wait for them to drop down to US$300ish ;-) Hopefully NAB has a few juicy announcements to help push their prices down faster.... Wish I could find those $200 used prices that you can ohhhh.... they're using EXACTLY the same looking website as our PriceSpy in New Zealand: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3144178 As you can see it is waaaaaaaaay more expensive here in NZ :-( :-(

If it is "too light" (for the Ronin) that is certainly not a problem!! Throw on a big battery pack for the BMPCC. Or rails and a wireless follow focus as well for the BMPCC. Or do both. Then its weight will be up higher to meet the minimum! Not a problem. Or you could just get a lighter weight gimbal :-D I wouldn't exactly call RED's history a "great history"!!! :-o It is a very checkered history that RED has had, with lots of downs, along with a few ups, along its rollercoaster ride. A RED Raven wouldn't just be a $1,000 more than an URSA Mini, is much more than that. And vs the new 4.6K sensor from BMD I expect the BMD to rate better. If comparing vs RED's MX sensor.... hmmm.... well nah, I prefer the BMPCC or F3 sensor over that old MX sensor. However... having said that, if I came across an *INSANELY* good deal on a RED One MX, then I'd probably get it. But a RED Scarlet MX? Nah, even if it was an "insane" deal I'd probably regard it as too overpriced for me (when I could go for an FS7 or URSA Mini instead for not much more. A Scarlet MX would have to be priced at an doubly insanely good deal! haha)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Good-BP-U60-7800mAh-112Wh-Battery-For-pmw-280-PMW-260-PMW-160-PMW-100-PMW-/271313492536?hash=item3f2b8b5a38:g:GI8AAOSwkoNTzguj I'm going with this here instead. As a double bonus it can power either my BMPCC or PMW-F3! :-D :-D
-
BMPCC is "too small" yet you use it on a gimbal? Sounds rather contradictory!! Plus it sounds like you've got very very few lenses. I'd recommend instead investing in more lenses (and likely you need more lighting gear), and getting a Blackmaigc Micro Cinema Camera (60fps FHD! Plus global shutter!) when it ships. Rather than squandering your money on a RED Raven.
-
*IF* it gets announced this year, I strongly doubt it will be that cheap! It would cost more.
-
Wow... can't even see the iPhone pixel! (almost) it is so tiny
-
The external recorder need is not so bad, as they're getting to be very cheap now, and you'd be buying an extra monitor anyway
-
Well they're more RX100 competitors than RX10
