Likely because of the lens. And because it gets mucked up in your pocket...

Depends on what look you want. Either Rokinons (good choice going with 16mm over 14mm!) Cine DS (in Nikon F mount) or Nikkor AIS (or AF-D) are good choices.

F5 was for a long while the best value mid range camera there is for owner ops. But the arrival of the FS7 has killed off some of the appeal of buying an F5. But if you want raw and a PL mount then on both counts an F5 will be much superior to an FS7 (I've been on shoots with an FS7 /F55 / F3, no F5 yet however! Strange. I'd like to upgrade from my F3 to an F5 one day)

That is a HUGELY DEEP mount for mirrorless :-o The deepest we've ever seen, aside from that one from Pentax using the Pentax K mount.
-
Still less bulky and heavy than using a 70-200mm f2.8 on a BMMCC!! :-o

I seriously would not mind at all if their P&S gets 4K before their DSLRs! :-D As only Canon P&S interests me because of their powerful CHDK. Wish Nikon had the same!

It is now "industry standard" for Nikon to roll out 4K with their cameras. Good news for the last remaining diehard Canon fanboys as it means it will at last force Canon's hand to include 4K in their cameras now. Because it appears Canon ignores what Panasonic / Sony / FujiFilm / Samsung / Pentax does, and only bothers to respond to innovation (such as the Nikon D90) when Nikon does it. Because they only view Nikon as their core competitor. The only reason I care is because I have some cool tricks with CHDK that I want to try out with a 4K Canon P&S. And sadly I can't with Nikon or Panasonic or Sony point and shoots, otherwise I'd buy them instead.

HUGE numbers of idiots who don't know better buy a Canon T3i (or similar). And HUGE numbers of people are still advocating for and recommending a T3i to newbies :-/

Am I the only one finding it hard to ignore the JVC LS300?
IronFilm replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Hmmm.... this camera already had a $1k price reduction before this announcement! Does this mean it is now only $2k.... ?? :-o http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1096581-REG/jvc_gy_ls300_4kcam_handheld_s35mm.html -
Smart move. Don't get studio

Cheers for the tip! I'll keep an eye out for the Tokina AT-X 60-120mm f/2.8

I own the lanparte gimbal and I wouldn't even bother trying a micro on it

Time to step up - Panasonic GH5 must go 6K Super 35mm to compete in 2016
IronFilm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Perception is everything. Which is exactly why they will NOT do this. They closest they might go is if they make a very low end Varicam with a S35 sensor but a m43 mount. But I'll doubt they'll do that and cheapen the Varicam brand. But I dunno, Sony has already done this to their CineAlta brand so it might happen. -
What is her name? & tumblr addresss?

I'd rather see first a 3 set of cine zooms from Tokina covering wide angle, mid range, and tele. You could then have just three lenses which cover entirely comfortably a production's entire needs.

I never expected to see warriorforum/blackhatworld/stackthatmoney mentioned on EOSHD!! :-o (I'm on them too...) But Zim is right. Indie filmmakers could learn a lot from them. ebook publishing is waaaaaaaay harder to make money from than it was merely a few years ago, but perhaps that is indeed the stage Indie Film Self Publishing is at now.

Is sad that people are idiots. But it true. Maybe a dual card slot (one CFast, one SD) in a GH5? To handle 60fps 4K 10bit 422 -
Panasonics new Cinema Camera? - Announcement today

I could imagine in two years or whenever from now, when a 2ndhand Varicam LT has fallen to an acceptable price that I could consider maybe purchasing a Varicam LT myself but P2 cards are still insanely expensive, to then use only one P2 card for a lightweight internal back up codec, and recording the bulk of the files instead to an Odyessy 10bit ProRes HQ. A bit like I do now with my F3 and SxS cards with the Samurai Blade! If only Nikon had pushed a little harder with their D90 and their next few cameras then Nikon could've kept its lead and now Nikon F would be the defacto standard instead. -

Strongly doubt Panasonic will go S35 for the GH5 and make obsolete overnight their entire lens collection!! That is just business madness. You could say "oh but it will still work with all the m4/3 glass in cropped mode". No, just no. This could spin into a marketing disaster for Panasonic, as it would be a very bad look for them and would send out a terrible signal about the m4/3 system and its future. MAAAAAYBE they might do S35 with an "AF200" (kinda like an ultra low end Vaircam S35), but absolutely not with a stills camera. All Panasonic needs to do is DCI 4K 60fps with 10bit internal and people will go absolute nuts over it buying the camera, and then Panasonic will easily maintain their lead over Sony for another year or more. But I won't deny, also getting as a bonus a multi aspect ratio sensor like in the GH2 would be nice. This would give it a "larger" sensor kinda, but still would work 100% with all their existing lenses. Plus of course I want full sensor read out for 4K with no additional crop. VLOOK or raw to an external recorder would also be nice too. When it comes to ergonomics, if they took a leaf out of Sony's book and had a detachable handle on the GH5 like on the FS7 so you could rig up a GH5 into a mini FS7 style camera that would be aaaamazing (however photographers would hate this! So don't see this happening). But the first two of 60fps 4K and 10bit internal are all a GH5 really needs to make a hit on their hands! -
Tokina's issue is they have this *HUGE* gap between their cinema zooms of 28mm and 50mm!! And that gap is right across a popular range a lot of us use heaps. So really need a 28-70mm T3 or 17-50mm T3 lens in there.

I got a bargain 2ndhand on a Nebula 4000 Lite thus is what I have. But check out a CAME TV Single as well.

Panasonics new Cinema Camera? - Announcement today

Why do you think they got burnt with the AF100? I thought it was quite popular. -
Reading this thread just reminds me why Panasonic is still a viable option!

Panasonics new Cinema Camera? - Announcement today
IronFilm replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Agreed. Panasonic desperately need an updated AF100 so the *HUGE* influx of new users they got with the GH4 can stay with Panasonic and then provide willing and easy customers to buy into a Varicam LT. But doing GH4 to Varicam LT in one giant leap with no intermediary stage of an AF100 v2.0 in between? ? That is too much to ask of a GH4 user.
