  1. yes there is, forgot its name however but I do remember seeing one
  2. Owning an F3 and BMPCC (the big and mini combo of high performance 1080 cameras) is going a long way towards reducing the crippling GAS I suffer from! Had a rather weird day today (DoP was no show!!!), but I was shooting with the PMW-F3 and damn I was really liking the look of some of those shots! But even so... I still get tempted badly due to my case of GAS :-/ Purchased a Panasonic G6 a few days ago. And got very very tempted today to get a Sony RX100 mk1.... (US$260 is hard to resist!).
  3. Did they ever go up for sale to others?
  4. I'd recommend the Sony PMW-F3 for sure (I have one myself! And I'm using Nikon lenses with it). They're an insanely good deal. Can easily pick one up for roughly two grand ish each on eBay or elsewhere. I even saw one go for a grand and a half earlier this week on eBay (I paid even less for mine!). Only significant drawbacks about this AWESOME camera: weight, max 60fps, and only MF (except for rare FZ exceptions).
  5. I've been using RJ Lens Turbo and Nikon G adapters from the start. They're great, nothing "quick fix" about them! You'd have to be an absolute bonkers idiot of the first degree to damage your lenses with one of these. And as you're smart enough to read EOSHD and post on this forum I'd say you're not that :-)
  6. yup, you can find them all day long at about two thousand dollars secondhand, and if you hunt hard it isn't impossible to get it even cheaper. That would be me you're referring to :-) And yes mine does come with 444!! But even so, I think you're over stating this point. As I think most people like myself who are buying it up now in 2015 on the ultra cheap, are not going to pair it with an ultra expensive 444 recorder but will instead use it with an affordable 10 bit 422 recorder. (Although, this is changing and improving too! As now the PIX-E5 offers a very affordable option for 444 recording) So keep an eye out for if a camera comes with 444 or not, but in the end I think what matters more is getting a good bargain on its price. I'd still buy one again even if it didn't have 444 as the price is great. Don't think you can reasonably compare an FS100 over an F3 (unless you *really want* that lighter weight, or the E mount). No NDs, no s-log, no SDI, no 10 bit, and the list goes on. These are serious commissions vs an F3. However, if you can pick one up cheap enough..... I wouldn't say now. Would have to be somewhere well south of a thousand dollars however before I'd consider a Sony FS100, otherwise it simply doesn't offer enough value vs an F3. Quite pleased in how it is in low light, I shot a music video a couple of weeks ago with the F3 and 2x Sony A7s alongside it, in a cave lit by nothing but the flaming torch in the ogre's hand. When I can, I'll post it here and see if people can identify which shots are A7s vs F3 ;-)
  7. Ehhh.... ?? How have you never considered off loading during a shoot as an option! And even so, like I said, I strongly doubt people will shoot 24hrs non-stop. You can shoot for a whole day, and only have a couple of hours of footage. (or much less, or much more, depends on how the day goes and the kind of director you have. But the point is, a lot less than 24hrs worth!)
  8. Another factor which leans towards me getting the BMD VA (above and beyond its cheap price), is even if I do "upgrade" to the PIX-E5 in the near future (or who knows what just around the corner....), that is no problem as the BMD VA can then serve as a very fine FHD monitor for my 1st AC or as a director's monitor. As for PIX-E5 vs PIX-E5H, I seriously think the extra couple of hundred dollars is very much worth it! Because as you mentioned, you likely won't be upgrading them quite so often. What is the odds you will in the near-ish future buy a camera with SDI out or rent one?? Very very high I reckon! Thus better be ready for that. But for me, a kiwi, this is peak freezing time!! Brrrrr.... sooo cold. This timing by BMD could be quite perfect for me, with it arriving just before summer kicks off so I've got a good opportunity to try it out and learn it beforehand. Remember, for us Australians/NZers, we've got our seasons in reverse to you ;-) And BMD is an Australian company. I agree 100% with your comparison of Arri with Rolls Royce, just because they can make a car for $20k, doesn't mean they should or they will. https://www.abelcine.com/store/Panasonic-Varicam-35-4K-Camera-Recorder/ Strange.... over in the USA, it is two and a half times more expensive! Very odd. I wonder what is going on. It would've been a very interesting alternative world where BMD had skipped making a BMPC4K or original URSA (or their studio cameras....) and focussed purely on refining the BMCC (and the BMPCC, which shares a lot with the BMCC. So shouldn't be too much of an extra overhead). I for one would've liked this alternative history timeline! As never been keen on buying the BMPC4K or URSA. https://www.abelcine.com/store/Panasonic-Varicam-35-4K-Camera-Recorder/ Strange.... over in the USA, it is two and a half times more expensive! Very odd. I wonder what is going on. http://cvp.com/index.php?t=product/panasonic_au-vrec1g_module Don't forget this cost... expensive all up!!
  9. Don't be so ridiculous! I reckon absolutely nobody will ever be recording 24hrs straight with the URSA Mini in 4.6K Either they can do lightweight ProRes flavours, or it will be stop/start for 24hrs, or they'll be offloading and cycling cards along the way. Which thus then makes the URSA Mini waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper vs film.
  10. Every second that ticks by you are losing money on that camera. Are you making money on it? If not, sell it. (Thus as it appears you're not, I'd recommend selling) Only exception is if you gain something more intangible from having it than money (such as you have lots of fun shooting with it, but again appears that is not the case. As you've only used it once in a long time).
  11. Tom Antos reviewed this recently: http://tomantosfilms.com/7049/airwheel/
  12. Sad to hear BMD Video Assist is going to be the most delayed :-( Maybe I just shouldn't wait, and get a Video Devices PIX-E5 now.
  13. HitFilm on Linux would be great!! Post your thoughts about this over in the HitFilm user group as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/426174967509293/
  14. Well damn, I'm now out! Though it is now down to $417, hopefully it goes even lower under 344 soon enough.
  15. Sweeeeeet!! Going try and order one of these bad boys.
  16. Wonder what is the odds it will gain focus peaking in 4K in a future firmware update... low?
  17. Haha, something like that! ;-) Edit: darn, they won't let themselves be contacted on eBay!! Sent a message to customercare at 6ave.comcom instead.
  18. Damn.... maybe I can ask them to ship without it.
  19. Other than the Sony RX10 mk2 or FS700, nope!! Gets to be very very pricey to do high quality slow motion with a large sensor.
  20. If you can settle for only 720, then the nice Samsung NX500 is going for a very cheap $344
  21. Did they ship the camera with an invoice included?
  22. Zach, the big big difference is you can reuse digital media over and over again. You can't with film.
  23. The cost of film and processing for 65mm would be beyond rediculously expensive. Be cheaper to just buy myself a Pentax 645Z and a set of lenses, and an Arri Alexa 65, and a Sony F65, *and* a RED Weapon 8K.
  24. I don't think such a thing as a counterfeit GH4 exists! People clone cellphones, yes. Never seen yet 4K large sensor ILC being cloned, nope.
  25. TheRenaissanceMan, that is exactly the same auction I have my eye on. So cheap for 4K! And I do like my NX300. The crippling time limit is what concerns me the most, as I'd like to use a few of those bodies for weddings this coming season. And is why my old Panasonic GH1 bodies are still rocking it! Maybe I should just pick up an extra GH2/G6 instead of switching over to Samsung.
