Personally I'd rather use a Pocket 6K Pro (or in my dreams... a Pocket 4K Pro, if only it existed!!! Or a Pocket 6K Pro but with a MFT or E Mount) , so I understand why the original URSA Mini 46K (non-Pro version) are crashing in price. But if client perception matters to you, then I reckon either the URSA Mini is a good idea for you. Or for only a little more, an even better idea would be the Sony FS7. Yeah the FS7 is a much better idea than a FS5. But if you're ok with a lot of 4K 8bit or 1080 10bit work the bulk of the time, then I guess it only being the minority of the time when you need to drag out the recorder then that wouldn't be so bad?

If you want a camcorder/cinema camera with ND filters on the cheap which merely does 1080 but with 10bit, how about a Sony FS5?

Funnily enough, there is! I certainly spot now or then on my facebook feed people going into various brands of hardware tools. So I bet entire facebook groups / forums probably exist for that? Guys love to geek out and argue debates about their toys! Oh noes, me too!

Ah yes, the Panasonic DMW-XLR1, but at a cost! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1304877-REG/panasonic_dmw_xlr1_xlr_microphone_adapter.html I agree it is very very very annoying!

The two industry standards tools for dialogue clean up is iZotope RX and Cedar DNS, anybody doing this seriously professionally would have both. Brusfri is what I'd recommend in the past instead for people doing it casually with "no budget".

Interesting, I didn't know DaVinci Resolve had added this

Both ways! You walked uphill to school and uphill back home too!

THIS! Twitter has been very stagnant for many years. So much missed opportunity! That other social media platforms have been exploiting. I do see Elon pushing hard to bring in lots of new innovations to evolve Twitter into something else new, a "Twitter 2.0"

I think Rode Go wireless and similar (such as DJI's one) have their place. But not on professional shoots. For casual hobbyist documentaries? Sure. Or a youtuber filming at home? Sure. But I'd lean towards recommending the Deity Pocket wireless instead, because: 1) higher RF power output than the Rode Go 2) has a locking connector (which shockingly the Rode Go lacks! That's unacceptable) 3) comes with a free lav mic (and the Rode Go doesn't) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1665635-REG/deity_microphones_pwb_pocket_wireless_digital_microphone.html Exactly, the Rode Go has zillions of shortcomings, beyond just simply its unreliability. Don't assume a Rode Go will be a miracle cure to your sound issues. And the Rode Go is unsuitable for professional productions. Use a waist strap (or thigh strap) and then I think a Sony UWP (which is a fair bit slimmer than a Sennheiser G4, is 24mm vs 20mm. Yes, the G4 is 20% thicker! ) isn't too hard at all to hide at all to the standard of any lower/mid budget corporate time shoot. Agreed. Many little potential issues that won't get picked up if you're not listening, especially aspects novices might not even realize (such as subtle jiggling jewelry could be very noisy if it is right next to the lav mic!).

Yes, the Deity V-Mic D4 DUO: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1567144-REG/deity_microphones_v_mic_d4_duo_two_way.html Bingo!
-
Hmmm... just widely speculating here, but I wonder if there is some kind of USB-C Hub a person could use together with a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone dongle???? That's why the Deity Pocket wireless comes with a lav mic as well. You can easily hide that.

Docos can be a logistical nightmare in terms of managing all the disorganized data, so it is in order. Thus a bodypack recorder is a 100% bad idea for you (unless... maybe, if it has timecode. And that the camera always has a timecode box too. This actually makes the bodypack recorder setup more expensive than you think, and closes the price gap vs say a Sony UWP-D21). You're better off recording the audio directly to the camera itself, so as to keep it simple for yourself. Are you going to shoot a lot of it with your cellphone do you reckon? I'd suggest the Deity Pocket wireless for you. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1665635-REG/deity_microphones_pwb_pocket_wireless_digital_microphone.html They're a much higher RF power output than any of the direct competition (*cough* Rode *cough*), has an essential locking 3.5mm connector which again a lot of their competition lacks (*cough* Rode *cough*), and comes with a lav too! Another bonus many of Deity's competitors don't give you. (*cough* Rode *cough*) how would i do that in said situation? would i need headphones, or....? talk to me like im 4 years old lol Yes, headphones (or even just earphones, is better than nothing!). Hopefully your phone & cameras all have a headphone output??

You are absolutely correct. (impressive, most prospective buyers don't realize this) You get true diversity with the Sony URX-P40 but only antenna diversity if you're using the Sony URX-P41D in dual channel mode. (the mode which is the entire reason for getting the Sony URX-P41D in the first place! No point otherwise) Bingo! You read my mind, the second I saw "UWP-D27" I was already thinking to say "get 2x UWP-D21", before I even read the rest of it. (another benefit also is the battery life will be longer with 2x receivers vs one dual receiver, so less battery changes) In your specific use case, then using the UWP-D27 makes sense to get. Then get a Sony DWR-S03D or Shure ADX5D instead! https://daleproaudio.com/collections/shop?q=sony dwx&fbclid=IwAR0ujss4SJFXIMnokrojxTEPvIklidbkiWwT0QfAPv8cxOIXmqhZCfBlstA#/filter:ss_price:1000:1500/filter:ss_price:1500:2000/filter:ss_price:2000 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1683015-REG/shure_adx5dus_a_dual_channel_portable_receiver_470_636mhz.html But likely this is overkill for you? Keep in mind that the Sennheiser G4 wireless do not have true diversity, they barely even have antenna diversity!! (Sennheisers also use analogue companders as well, unlike the Sonys which digitally encode the signal) Heck, even my Lectrosonics SRb receivers don't have true diversity, but because the rest of them is built to such high specs I still get "good enough" performance from them. (not as good as a Lectrosonics UCR411 though....)

How are you going to monitor audio otherwise? (how will anybody else on set monitor audio who needs to? Such as the director/client/etc) Would you ever film anything without a video monitor?? Why do audio like that? Depending on what frequency you need, it is goes for as little as US$466: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1484789-REG/sony_uwp_d21_25_uwp_d21_camera_mount_wireless_omni.html Or get the older third generation Sony UWP-D21 cheap on eBay. (or even the ancient second gen Sony UWP-V1) What's the project? Tell us as many details.

Of course I'd strongly recommend using a wireless instead (as bodypack recorders are an incredibly niche tool, I own one, never used it. Never needed it). Of which the best low budget / prosumer wireless is easily the Sony UWP-D21. But for those who do wish to use bodypack recorders, then for a long time the Tascam DR10L (or if you were outside the evil reaches of the Zaxcom patent lawyers.... the Tascam DR10CS) was quite popular, as it is obviously a massive upgrade over the former approach of lav into a Zoom H1!! (I remember doing that when I was a film school student) While also being massively cheaper than the professional bodypack recorders from Zaxcom or Lectrosonics. (easily over a thousand dollars each) But times have kept on moving on since then, the Zoom F2-BT got released (which added timecode via bluetooth) and then later on the Tentacle Track E was shipping. (which does it even better, with a timecode crystal integrated within it) And that is what I'd recommend when going for a bodypack recorder, the Tentacle Track E. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1506356-REG/tentacle_sync_track_e_pocket_audio.html

With the benefit of five years of hindsight, what might you have changed if you were to go back in time?
-
Sure! But really, reviews of a the FX30 should be more focused on comparing it against the direct competitors to the FX30 at a similar price point. Then in that context the FX30 has better rolling shutter than most, but worse than some.
-
I run mine on a Sony BP-U60, goes all day on that.
-
I had to earn my pay somehow that day!
-
I thought it was a bit less than 16ms? For some comparisons btw, here is a list of rolling shutter specs: Sony FX30 Rolling Shutter = 15.7 ms BMPCC4K Rolling Shutter = 16 ms BMPCC6k Rolling Shutter = 19.8 ms Canon C70 Rolling Shutter = 15.6 ms Panasonic S1H Rolling Shutter = 29.7 ms Canon EOS R5 Rolling Shutter = 15.5 ms Sony A7IV Rolling Shutter = 26.8 ms Nikon Z9 Rolling Shutter = 14.5 Sony A1 Rolling Shutter = 16.6 ms The FX30 really doesn't have "bad" rolling shutter.

...then keep on cutting! Until you feel like you've gone too far. Then it is ready.
-
LESS THAN thirteen batteries. (was constantly running back to the chargers to cycle through the handful of batteries we had, and we were using a big heavy car battery to use to charge up the dead batteries)

They have no friends.... that's the REAL CONSPIRACY they're hiding from us! 😉 Yup, EOSHD is a rare place where I feel we have productive educational discussions (even if we have different perspectives... but that's a good thing! Not a bad thing) Not many places are better than EOSHD. Over on Reddit for instance there are waaaay too many newbies or otherwise just don't have a clue but pretend they do. Take this thread for instance, just made today, literally asking where on reddit is "better":

Still better than 95% of amateur content.
