I'd have hoped the bigger body with active calling would have prevented the FX3 from ever ever overheating. But I guess not.
-
Ah yes, I was forgetting that.
-
Ninja V?? But I thought I had to use a SDI recorder to get 4K raw out of the FS5?

I already sometimes see a Sony F55 flirting quite close to the US$3K mark. (with the current high inflation though... for how much longer though? Everything seems to be going up lately, even secondhand prices of goods on eBay 😕 ) The Sony F5, that is essentially identical to the F55 (the two key differences being without the global shutter, but much better low light with the F5 because of that) is already sometimes just slightly under the $2K mark by a fraction of a hair.

Please be real, please be real, please be real, please be real, please be real, please be real, please be real. Yes, and that price puts it on par for competing against the GH6 and X-T4. But if it can do everything the FX3 can, then the FX30 should be a worthy competitor. Especially if they put NDs into the FX30! (but sadly I highly doubt that, even though I personally believe anything called "CineAlta" ought to have NDs!!) Exactly! Not just FS5/FS7, but also people who are still holding onto the older F5/F55/FS700/F3. Then the FX30 would be fully compatible with all of their lenses, and it would give them an awesome B Cam for gimbal shots / car rigs / etc that the bulkier F55 etc cameras struggle badly at. Even big time Sony VENICE users would like the FX30! Plenty of people are still shooting with top notch S35 cine lenses on the VENICE, and the FX30 is great C Cam to match with the VENICE. No timecode. And I think there is a codec / picture profile that the a7S lacks vs FX3? (specifically, S-Cinetone, which is a very big deal for some) I think the a7Smk3 is still very slightly prone to overheating sometimes? While the FX3 (and FX30) would be rock solid reliable? (relatively speaking... honestly, I worked on a feature film using the FX3, and that overheated!!)

Agreed! But Panasonic missed the boat years ago for an EVA1 MFT, that they should have done. I assume/hope/pray the next is going to be an EVA2 L Mount instead.
-
Blackmagic should have done this from Day 1! As MFT supports Super 35mm lenses. The Pocket 6K Pro with a MFT Mount would be dreamy.

This is a Tamron lens, but with a Nikon badge: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1703932-REG/nikon_nikkor_z_28_75mm_f_2_8.html With a sub $1K pricetag, then it is priced almost as cheaply as the Tamron too! Even though it has the Nikon namebrand on it. As the Tamron version is only a hundred bucks less: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1658157-REG/tamron_a063_28_75mm_f_2_8_di_iii.html I feel like a premium of only ten percent is a fair price to pay for Nikon branded lens I can have full 100% confidence it will get supported well into in the future with all the Nikon bodies. Which isn't something you can't say always when buying third party lenses to pair with a random other camera body from another brand.

I have lots of BTS videos on my youtube channel (and from the sound perspective, which is a very frequently overlooked aspect). Plus the kind of productions which allow me to / don't mind if I do BTS, are often smaller budget productions, and more relatable to your students than AAA Blockbuster Films. https://www.youtube.com/c/SoundSpeeding/videos

GH2 hacks made Panasonic realize the GH series should be made for pro
IronFilm replied to solovetski's topic in Cameras
I agree! So from this perspective, then the GH3 was Panasonic "first" attempt at a mirrorless camera for video users. GH4 was their second attempt, and GH5 was their third attempt. Panasonic has been making really big strides with big advancements each time! -
Nikon has half a dozen brands which support autofocus on the Nikon Z Mount (and of course many many many more brands which make manual focus lenses for Nikon Z Mount): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/ci/17912/N/4196380428?filters=fct_a_focus-type_5738%3Aautofocus%2Cfct_brand_name%3Akipon|tamron|ttartisan|viltrox|yongnuo%2Cfct_lens-mount_3442%3Anikon-z-mount I think it is just that Nikon Z Mount is the newest of all the mounts. That's why 3rd Parties have been a bit slow-ish to bring out lenses for Nikon Z Mount, they needed time to develop lenses. Plus they were waiting first for Nikon to gain market share traction with the Z Mount before bringing out products for it themselves. Am sure over the next few years we'll only see many more 3rd Party AF Lenses for Z Mount. Damn, a 32mm f.28 compact full frame lenses for under US$150 for Z Mount: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1719556-REG/ttartisan_af3228b_z_af32mm_f_2_8_full_frame.html Niiiice! I look forward to what lenses are coming next for Nikon Z Mount.

I was probably never ever going to buy a Canon mirrorless anyway. But the Canon C70 / R5C / R7 / R10 were doing a good job at maaaaaaaaaybe tempting me to the "dark side". And if Canon had kept up this good work for another couple of generations, maybe I'd take Canon more seriously?? However, this anti-3rdParty news just absolutely crashed any desire for Canon, and any hope they might one day be a viable choice in the future for me. I'll keep on supporting Panasonic/Nikon/Blackmagic/Fujifilm instead!

On the topic of old Sony CineAlta cameras, the Sony PMW-F55 just turned 10 years old:
-
Without recording externally, and without a dummy battery, then recording length before overheating will likely be a lot less. Wouldn't even shock me if people start reporting recording lengths which are less than an hour. Doesn't make any sense though, usually with any other camera, using an external recorder should either have no impact or improve recording length times.

Surprise surprise, a massively cheaper camera sold a lot more than an expensive camera! "Solution": you can't have a broken VF if you've removed it entirely 😉 Mine is removed completely!

60fps 10bit 444 vs 8bit 420 30fps SDI vs HDMI TC vs no-TC Lots of reasons to prefer the F3!
-
The biggest benefit for shooting Open Gate is of course for anamorphic shooting, that is the primary purpose they exist as a shooting mode. The other major benefit of Open Gate in 2022 is if you want to shoot in other aspect modes, such as for instagram.

Doing it for them memes yo dawg

Shot at 4K DCI ProRes HQ?

I'd totally expect that the speedbooster wouldn't be able to cover much bigger the APS-C. (at best, maybe FF with a heavy vignette on the edges. Perhaps APS-H would look good?) Would be easy enough to test, just get an adapter for an actual 645 lens onto the speedbooster mount.
-
You really want to push the price for an F3 up to $1M!
-
Yeah as even for a budgeted/crewed production, then 10 people is still rather micro-sized. And it is fair enough if they want to show off the camera in the best possible light. (pun totally intentional)
-
It is because of YouTubers reviewing the F3 (and probably because of threads like this one as well....). Ever since this video came out a couple of years ago then prices have never been the same for the F3 😕

RED KOMODO vs Sony FX6 vs Canon C70
