  1. Once it is watchable on the internet, ANYWHERE on the internet, encrypted or not, then it will be possible for it to be copied and shared elsewhere. It's a simple fact of life.
  2. Noooooo...... what happened? Yeah, upgrading from the G6 to the bigger bodied GH4 isn't a good thing! But oh well, GH4 is still a small camera. I couldn't imagine a better purchase for sub US$300! But I'll be using it for the 4K, not the HD, got to get that extra 1% in the YouTube rankings 😉
  3. Ha! Same here. Although I had a shoot with it yesterday, and might have another next week too. But the client it seems is wanting a 4K and slow motion, looks like I'll need to rent in a Sony FS7 or maybe I can get away with a FS5. Am tempted by an upgrade to a Sony PMW-F5, even though it is a LOT of money (even at these bargain prices), if it lasts me as long as the F3 has (5+ years) then on a per year basis it isn't much at all. (or at least that is how I'd "rationalize" it to myself!) Heh, this camera is missing a LOT more! (but that is why we have the F5....) Funny you mention the F5 hack, as I've done that myself! Highly doubt we'll see a 2K hack for the F3. But you never know. However a big difference is the F5 had the big brother F55 that could do 4K since Day 1, and they shared a lot of similar code as at their core they are the same. (except the F55 has a slightly different tweak of the sensor with a different CFA, which meant it uniquely had a global shutter but with the big trade off of a lower base ISO than the F5) Which is what made it easy to enable 4K recording on the F5, as the code to do it was already sitting there on the camera!! (thus the big scandal) Never ever had that happen.
  4. Shot a few times with it handheld, and yikes, the tension it puts on your right wrist as it tries to twist it around is immense. Not really a super comfortable camera to shoot with like that. Too tall!
  5. Tim Pool was one of those original Wall Street Protestors and citizen journalists, he's been around for a very long time. Worked for VICE too as one of their journalists (described by even VICE as a "lefty" & "progressive"). He's backed Bernie Sanders, and voted for Obama each time. Just because he's disappointed in the direction the Democrat Party has been going lately, and is willing to call out B.S. when he sees it, doesn't make he some kind of "crazy extreme right winger". He's at heart a lefty. The world needs more people like him, folks who can see the perspective from both sides of the political divide and work with all sorts of people rather than driving us apart. That "stickiness" is why they can fairly efficiently move over to another platform if they get booted off, which means in the end booting them off hasn't really accomplished anything. You're Jewish too?
  6. Have loved the Panasonic G6, such a big upgrade from the original Panasonic GH1 which I started this filmmaking journey with (although technically it was my girlfriend's Nikon D90 or my sister's Canon T2i that I borrowed for the first handful of shoots), but in recent years I've been considering an upgrade. First to the Panasonic G7, simply to get 4K, but as the price of the Panasonic G85 kept on coming down on eBay that tempted me instead for the better low light, the live HDMI out, and of course the IBIS! But this is a slippery slope, because as I wait... then the Panasonic G9 got that big 10bit firmware update, and their prices were coming down with time too. (& more firmware updates came out too, such as better AF for the G9, and being a USB webcam for the G9) Never really seriously considered the Panasonic GH5 or GH4, as they always got the most attention, thus I felt they always kept up the highest prices on the secondhand market, compared to the value that the Panasonic G series offered instead. But I still kept half an eye on the GH4/GH5 sales, just in case. Even considered a few alternative options such as Fujifilm, or for instance the Panasonic S1 that I bid on last week until the price shot up far too high for my tastes. In the end I kept on coming back to Panasonic MFT as offering by far the best value for money. (& the fact I already owned MFT lenses helped too) However, today I won an action for a Panasonic GH4 for only NZ$417! (less than US$300) That was a price too good to ignore (but I doubt I'd have bid a penny higher), thus to my surprise I find out I've settled with the old Panasonic GH4 as the upgrade from the G6 I'm going with. Even though I'd like the IBIS / better high ISO / etc of the G85 or G9, it isn't such a bad thing to have settled for this cheap deal of a GH4 because it is just going to be for casual vlogging usage to create simple content for my YouTube channel. One very small benefit of going with the Panasonic GH4, is that when the price of the Panasonic G9 finally tumbles down to sub US$300 (right after the Panasonic G12 gets released?), then I'll be able to use the same Panasonic DMW-BLF19 batteries in both! (which wouldn't have been possible if I'd got a G7 or G85) Now, how many more years until I upgrade my "big camera", the Sony PMW-F3? The F3 is a truly fantastic camera! I still think there isn't a better 1080 camera at this price point (but the world is moving onto 4K). Had it a fair few years, unfortunately the F3's popularity didn't last too long because the Canon C300mk1 got released shortly after and the C300mk1 just *dominated* the low / mid end professional work for that generational cycle. (interesting how the secondhand F3 has seen a bit of renaissance in 2019/2020 thanks to Caleb Pike & others) Been wanting to do the natural upgrade to a Sony PMW-F5 for a while now, but can't justify it because as a Sound Mixer I don't do a high enough volume of camera work. The FS7/FS5 or even a secondhand FS700R might very well make more sense! (I like for instance all the work done with the FS700R by this guy: https://vimeo.com/paulbates However the FS700 isn't as nicely ergonomic as the FS5! That compact size is fantastic) Just keeping my eyes open for the right secondhand deal, in absolutely no rush whatsoever. (as I'm still primarily by far a Production Sound Mixer, as what I do day to day)
  7. I think it is extremely dangerous to live in an echo chamber of only knowing people who already agree with you and reinforce your existing biases. a) you're referring here to lbry.tv, not LBRY. You should go to Odysee not lbry.tv by default b) you're referring here to a video produced by a journalist Tim, who is a self described liberal and has backed the likes of people such as Bernie Sanders. I'd say it is a ridiculous stretch of a claim to say he's an extreme right winger. Now, Tim is not saying these videos are proof that the election results are wrong and Biden lost, in fact Tim multiple times says and stresses this is *not* definitive proof that Trump won. What do you think Tim as a journalist should have been done instead, do you say this is a taboo topic that we may not discuss whatsoever illegal electioneering behavior? I strongly disagree, if you care about defending democracy and maintaining a high level of confidence in election results, then you should embrace discussing and bringing to light cases which undermine the fair election process. As you don't want to encourage that and let it get worse for the next election cycle. You're better off working on getting this stopped now, before the next election. People need to have confidence that elections are fair and anything illegal/irregular will get cracked down on and not simply ignored to then be brushed away under the mat. Anyway, bringing the focus back to discussing YouTube itself, let's look at this published paper I randomly stumbled across about "right-wing echo chambers on YouTube" because a friend shared it today. Here is what the math and a study says, to quote the abstract: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2011.12843.pdf
  8. They go further and say: But read the whole article, I found it to be a really interesting read explaining the shift.
  9. Huh? Do you oppose Sci-Hub too now?? (and how is Sci-Hub "greed") Do you just oppose the sharing of knowledge in general? Anti-LBRY and Anti-SciHub, makes it surprising you're on a forum then?! No, the problem is the lack of choice, for too long we had no other choice than YouTube! (well, we kinda had Vimeo, but that is dying out, Facebook videos is the #2 now) You seem to think more competition and choice is a "bad thing". So what if people use it in ways you don't want them to do, people use JavaScript in ways that I think are bad! Doesn't mean I flat out oppose JavaScript itself, I realize JavaScript is beneficial too. Is just a technological tool. You might hate Google, but the solution isn't to replace it with another different company that becomes Google 2.0! The solution instead is to decentralize and have a flourishing of competitive choices. Not be tied down to any one authority who gets to dictate what is available or not.
  10. Here is what the creators behind LBRY themselves said about lbry.tv: https://odysee.com/@lbry:3f/talkingaboutodyseeandlbry:6 So yes, don't go to lbry.tv if you're just a casual goer, rather Odysee.com is the place to be. (and in this regards, I feel Curtis Judd / Tom Antos / etc made a mistake in promoting their move to lbry.tv instead of promoting Odysee.com) Edit: lol, when I went to Odysee just now it said "Hi, we're an alternative to quibi." (last time I visited it said something along the lines of "Now with 50% less bending over park benches". Heh)
  11. And if you're not already aware of the well known ways to get papers for free, here you go: https://sci-hub.scihubtw.tw/10.1109/dapps49028.2020.00005 (from IEEE's DAPPS) https://sci-hub.scihubtw.tw/10.1177/2515127418823677 (USASBE's EE&P) Is promoting Boxing ok? What about MMA? There are people out there who'd say "no". I'd much rather the platform doesn't get to make these decisions. (or at least does an absolutely minimal amount) We already have elected governments who draws up laws when it comes to free speech, let's leave enforcement to them rather than expecting everyone else to do the government's job for them.
  12. Maybe the C200mk2 might be their lower end FF cinema camera?? Seems like one of the few niche spots left open that it could slot into.
  13. Again, you've missed the whole point of the foundations of LBRY. So what if you or @newfoundmassdon't like the LBRY.tv website? You could go to odysee.com instead (also based on the LBRY blockchain). Or even.... make your own based on the LBRY blockchain! That's the beauty of it, there is no one Google (or Fox/CNN/whoever) controlling what you see and what is or isn't "allowed". If you don't like it, you can even roll your own. Might be worth double-checking your (and @newfoundmass) own biases here. Are you sure that is what you saw, or is it what you assumed you saw? Please share screen shots! This is what I see (and from memory, this looks pretty similar-ish to the random collection of videos when I first visited LBRY.tv): Doesn't see a single Newsmax video here! (and is it such a bad thing to see a couple pop up into your news feed now and then? No worse than seeing HuffPost/AlterNet/TYT/Uproxx/BuzzFeed/etc etc pop up in your feed, as it is good to keep tabs on what both sides who are straying away from the center are thinking. Keeps you grounded) Can't see any pro trump videos here either! In fact only one video here has "Trump" in the title, and I can't be bothered to watch the whole half hour of it, but it would seem Tim's video on the topic is leaning anti-Trump and he too is of the belief that Trump doesn't have any chance whatsoever of winning any of his legal cases for him to get a 2nd term. So no, definitely not a pro-Trump video here. As for Alt-Right videos, where? Going to make a huge leap and say Peter Schiff or John Stossel is "Alt-Right"? That would be a downright ridiculous claim. Or does talking about Bitcoin make a person "Alt-Right" now? (as sure, there is a couple of Bitcoin videos there on the front page, because shock-horror, a website based on blockchain technology attracts people who like to talk about... the blockchain! Imagine my surprise) There is an easy solution here, sign up to make an account so you can tailor your results. (just look for instance how different your own recommendations can be on YouTube when you log into a different one of your own accounts! You don't need to settle for the first time default recommendations) Or even.... roll your own platform! As I said before, this is the beauty of LBRY, which everyone on this thread who has been complaining about YouTube should be appreciating and embracing as the way forward to get out the grips of YouTube. Don't like YouTube? Look, you can make your alternative now! Based on the LBRY blockchain. Go ahead, read this conference paper published by IEEE: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9126007
  14. I think you really do not grasp at all what LBRY fundamentally is here, they're just a blockchain technology. That's not "pushing a viewpoint" (let alone hysterical hyperbole such as "destroying democracy"), making a claim like that would be even more outlandish than saying that about HTTP, Javascript, or HTML! (although I'm sure there must have been luddites saying similar-ish wild claims back in the 1990's)
  15. Stumbled across this YT comment which is a nice little summary of the Sony PMW-F3 history, thus I thought I'd include it here into this F3 megathread:
  16. btw, if you don't like the particular way https://lbry.tv/ is implemented, then you can always go elsewhere to experience the LBRY network, such as: https://odysee.com/ They're both the same underlying LBRY blockchain! I do think it is good to not let yourself slip into echo-chambers of homogeneous samethink, I try to always make a conscious effort to keep a relative diverse range of news sources I go to, channels that I watch, and social media sites/groups I use, just to give a few examples. For instance, I try not to exclusively use Google search, and often use DuckDuckGo as well (is sometimes amazing how different their search results are!). Of course I still have my own strong biases in the media I consume, I'll watch plenty of photography channels but rarely ever any painting channels, as that is what I'm interested in vs am not. But I feel if you don't seek out a diversity of experiences (always using Facebook but not Twitter, or always using Pro Tools but not Reaper, or always using Nikon but not Panasonic, or always use Sound Devices but not Zaxcom) then it is easy to get yourself stuck in a rut, and eventually you may find yourself being left behind due to your narrow perspective of the world.
  17. Tom Antos has definitely had issues with YouTube (bullsh*t copyright claims), seems most everyone eventually does if you get big enough. Hope many more people join up to LBRY from a wide range of diverse views, as if we want to have a viable alternative to YouTube it can't just be an echo-chamber. So it is good to see totally non-political YouTube channels like Curtis Judd / Tom Antos / etc signing up to LBRY, we need more of that! Perhaps I should upload my YouTube channel to LBRY as well.
  18. Be curiously odd if it is EF Mount only, if it is then I bet it will be the last one ever.
  19. Ideally at 1 stop steps! Like VENICE
  20. https://www.l-rumors.com/first-wild-rumored-specs-for-a-new-panasonic-l-mount-cine-camera/ An APS-C S5???? I thought Panasonic said they won't ever bring out an APS-C L Mount stills camera? As that would compete too closely with their MFT cameras.
  21. All they need to do is stick the guts of a S1H inside an EVA1 body with an L Mount (or MFT!), and price it attractively.
  22. Should have reported that threat to H&S + HR!! But then again those people are probably just their union cronies.... who'd end up siding with the threatening thug.
  23. This was my Black Friday audio plugin purchase: https://klevgrand.se/products/brusfri
  24. Going early into mirrorless gave Sony an advantage initially, but it also means they made the mistake of APS-C as the basis for their mount. Which they're trying to shoehorn a FF sensor into, which results in limitations in terms of the lenses they can design and what they can do with their sensors. With time, this will become more and more apparent to even the average consumer. Nikon has better camera body IBIS and "better" (in the sense of one of: size/price/performance/value/speed/etc) lenses than Sony. Canon meanwhile has made the deathly mistake of splitting up their mirrorless across EOS M & RF Mounts, they can not possibly support both forever! Nikon has already long ago killed their Nikon 1 experiment, that mistake is gone in the past now. Out of the "big three" I see Nikon the best set up for the long term future, they just need to keep on doing what they're doing. Release another couple of DX Z Mount bodies to get the mainstream average buyers and attract new blood to the system, plus Pro FX Z Mount body and keep up that stream of new Z Mount lens releases. (and purely in my dreams.... release a FX6/C70 competitor with a Z Mount!!)
