https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1435435-REG/atomos_atomxsync1_modular_expansion_for_ninja.html Ah, it is finally in stock! Hadn't seen any discussions about it shipping, anybody used it yet? Is a pity there isn't a Samurai V! (like a Ninja V, but with SDI) As the "Samurai V" paired with an AtomX Sync module means you could get timecode stamped 4K files out of the Sony FS700 on the cheap!

You may have no enthusiasm for the low end of the FF market, but that's wear most of the FF sales happen! It is wise for Nikon to get themselves a slice of that pie, and even grow the market. We applaud the likes of Blackmagic or Z Cam when they bring us cheap goods (even with all their flaws) at ever low prices, why can't we show the same respect to Nikon when they launch the best ever sub $1.5K mirrorless FF camera? Am glad to see Nikon offering us bargain choices! May they deliver many more new products like this. What's next, a Nikon Z40 that gives us 4K DCI 60fps with IBIS for the same price as an a6100/M50?? So what if it is still 8bit, so what if it still has a 30 minute record limit, I'd still be very happy to see such a "Nikon Z40" camera! Yes, the camera snobs will turn up their noses at it because it isn't 8K raw, but this "Nikon Z40" would sell like hotcakes.
-
It is not "just a monitor", but a 4K recorder too! The Ninja V is shockingly cheap for what it is.
-
That's my hope, that they simply sold it off to JIP so that then JIP can do their dirty work for Olympus to massively streamline the business to trim off all the fat, then returns it to Olympus (with a generous profit in the sale given to JIP as their fee for turning around the division).

Doesn't really matter when they came out, that's the price segment that Nikon is aiming at. (plus remember that the release RRP will only last a handful of months, the street price will drop lower at some point in the near future) Sony has a strategy of keeping their older cameras around to sell at low low prices to grab the low end market share, as they're doing with the old a7mk2. (and heck, Canon does the same too! Just look at how many older Canon Rebel models are still being sold) There is nothing at all wrong with Nikon coming out with a band new fresh model to target the same low end market share. In fact this is a GOOD THING they're doing it with newly designed model, I'd rather have a 2020 design than a 2015 design. Like @David Bowgett said: When you look at the Nikon Z5's competition, I feel like the Z5 has the potential to be a smash hit for Nikon. As quite simply there is no better FF mirrorless camera on the market today that you can buy new with a RRP of sub $1.5K Read again what David said, Nikon didn't "match specs" here! Nikon crushed their competition. (in this particular market segment)

The great thing about this monitor for non-Americans is you can order it direct from China via Alexpress and get "free shipping"! (as good grief, the shipping from B&H to NZ costs an arm and a leg!!) They've also got a 23.8" monitor (and even 28 inch!!! But it uses roughly nearly 50W??), for only a hundred dollars extra. If you're looking at four streams at once on one screen then you might consider a 4K monitor as worthwhile. SEETEC has some even cheaper options to consider, a 15.6" monitor for US$455.04: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001134158086.html Only HDMI however, thus you should consider this one too which has SDI for US$652.80 (is a little bigger too at 17.3"): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32715788233.html Or go small with a 13.3" SDI monitor for US$470: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32912961553.html
-
Practically speaking, the simplest/cheapest/fastest/best solution is just buy a camera rig which has a locking pin for the HDMI connector. That's the first thing I bought when I got my BMPCC.

Mieke are making extremely affordable PL lenses as well, which should be released in the near future: For the insanely low price of $539.99!

No surprise at all if you follow Matt Duclos, he's discussed it before on his blog, goes into a fair bit of detail: https://thecinelens.com/2020/04/18/rip-veydra-2014-2019/ Unfortunately Meike didn't copy the swappable mount feature of the Veydras, one of the best things about them I thought. As a lot of them cover S35, so there is the potential to use them across a variety of mirrorless mounts. Someone connected to Meike mentioned Duclos is working on developing an adapter for them, like Duclos has for the Fujinon MK zooms (hopefully won't be as pricey though, $500 for each lens!).
-
If you been willing to wait a little while for the price drops... then the newly announced Nikon Z5 might have been perfect for you!
-
And I agree, the Nikon is way in front of the likes of the RP or a7mk2! (and the S1 etc are priced far above a Z5)
-
It is a pity. But it priced very low, and remember it won't be too many months away when Nikon starts offering rebates / sales. Thus once it hits that price point, I don't see any other FF camera competing for video from Sony/Canon/Panasonic/etc for this price. For some buyers (in particular some photographers), the Z5 is already eating Z6's lunch.

Ouch. That's a tight budget. Yeah nothing from the professional range of production monitors would come close. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=atomos sumo &N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma Not even Atomos could you get one secondhand for $1K, which isn't mainstream for director/client monitors, but at least are a major mainstream name for camera monitor/recorders. With that budget I'd suggest just go look at the most popular ones on Aliexpress from China. Feelworld is one of the bigger names out of China.
-
It would help immensely if you tell us your budget? As there are plenty of production monitors for shooting on sets like what you're describing, but the usual ones cost thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. Do you want a few of those recommended? Or something a little cheaper? Or perhaps even a lot cheaper?

Are you sure Canon allows flawless performance of EF-S lenses on the RP? As after all we know Canon doesn't let EF-S lenses get used on EF DSLRs! (unlike Nikon which made it quite effortless to use DX on FX DSLRs) Plus even if it works, you've still then got the usual hassle of adapters. But even worse than usual, you can't use any EF-S lens in FF still mode!
-
It is a serious problem in the sense that the RF Mount lenses are a big mismatch for that "crop factor" vs the Fuji X Mount lenses which are perfectly made to match up with that sensor's FoV
-
I work on productions every month with cameras that are $10K ish plus. And I don't see myself as particularly abnormal, I'm not someone working exclusively on fancy film sets, lots of my shoots I'm on are still very low budget / indie. Exactly x2 But owning the camera isn't what @thebrothersthre3 was talking about, he said "there are a lot of people on this forum that work for production companies that use 10k plus cameras or rent 10k plus cameras for projects" when you replied to that with your 1% claim.
-
No it is not! And if he doesn't care about not being able to ever use NX Mount lenses on a better camera in the future, then the NX1 is worth a look. Add a used Panasonic G9 to your list. Agreed.
-
The EOS RP doesn't however give you the so called "full frame look" if you're shooting in 4K. (not to mention the various other downsides to shooting video with the EOS RP)
-
Not to mention the swappable mounts, and internal ND filters is definitely worth the extra to go for the UMP
-
You're referring to the Tascam DR10L/DR10CS But it is not a receiver. (or even a transmitter)
-
And if you're not a Netflix commissioned production, then an ARRI AMIRA secondhand is quite close to that $10-$15K range. Wish the reverse was true and Z Cam's raw was workable in DaVinci Resolve.

Ha! Sorry about that. You nailed it! Want to listen to some gentle non-mentally taxing babble about photography cameras? Tuning into T&C isn't the worst you could do. Also, I think we can sometimes outgrow a particular source. I remember back when I was in film school I really enjoyed the website "No Film School", but now? Ugh. It's a bit rubbish. Did kinda wonder though, was it me who had changed (now that I've moved far beyond the "film school" stage), or was it the website that had changed? Went to archive.og to look at early 2010's NFS stuff (or heck, look at in the mid/late 2000's! Drastically totally different). Indeed, the early 2010's No Film School when everything was written by Ryan himself was a very different kind of website to what it is today, and even re-reading some of those articles now in 2020 they're more enjoyable than much of the stuff NFS pumps out today. (now they're all just outsourced to anybody/everybody)

Sensor hours are not like kilometers on a car, or shutter life on a camera. They shouldn't necessarily "wear out". All it does is give a rough indication of how much the camera has been used. However, I'd rather take a C100 with 10,000hours on it that has been used as a locked off 24/7 live stream camera inside a house, than a C100 with "only" a thousand hours but has seen multiple expeditions into remote foreign battle zones to film documentaries on the front line.

This. I reckon this might just maybe see more usage as a 4K/6K/8K camera than as a purely 12K camera. Exactly! Although, I suspect it would be cheaper in the long run to buy a BMPCC4K in 2020, a BMPCC8K in 2022, and a BMPCC12K in 2024! Plus also you get to have three cameras in total at the end of it. I really hope the GH6 comes out in 2020! And that it isn't a flop like the G95 or G100 was.
