You just describe a Sound Devices MixPre-3! Or any other recorder from the MixPre series. Or any Zoom F Series recorder. (I refuse to acknowledge the F1 is part of that line up) Or even a Tascam DR60D/DR70D/DR701

The New Panasonic G100 “vlogging” Camera to launch June 24th
IronFilm replied to Video Hummus's topic in Cameras
You underestimate just how much content gets uploaded to YouTube, how many zillions of small channels with only a few thousands of subs (or even just mere hundred, or just dozens) there are. Yes, I don't know of anybody who has purchased a camera without first checking out a YouTube video or three about it at least. -
People always fail to mention ALL THE OTHER STUFF that got "shot with" other than just the iPhone. For instance just with one single crew position: the sound mixer, I know he was using tens and tens and tens of thousands of dollars worth of professional sound gear. Ditto all the other departments too I bet.

The camera sensor and the phone's screen will be the same size!
-
Handheld recorders are awful ergonomics for usage on professional film sets. But hopefully this at least gains the better pre amps from the Zoom F Series, and at least "some kind of" metadata control too.
-
Nah! Medium Format is not far behind, they'll die out too. Large Format Digital photography is the only path forward now! And you're fools to buy into any other system which isn't large format.
-
Cheaper/easier/faster to just license the tech now from JIP?
-
Likely for the first couple of years they were hopeful in crossing their fingers that it would become profitable again. Olympus doesn't focus on videographers, thus slow to add 10bit Also Olympus likely didn't want to take the risk of splitting their attention across two camera mounts.

Good grief, you've got to be kidding, that is Canon cripple hammer level of insanity to do this in late 2020 Uses the older GH4 sensor though, and no screen or EVF etc You greatly underestimate the size of the YouTuber/vlogger market. Just look at the surveys of people asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?". This is always top ranked, sometimes even #1! Additionally YouTubers/vloggers have a huge impact upon the non-vlogger market, as they're the ones producing reviews, showcasing what they use, and getting views. They have a big big influence if you can capture this market. Can make for lots of free advertising for your brand. However a G9 with a kit lens is roughly double ish the price of a G100 kit. You nailed it. (although, even if the AF magic is only reliable up to a couple of meters that would still be sufficient for most vloggers/YouTubers. And might as well settle for even a G85 over a G95 as I will eventually do one day) -
Samsung has exited the camera business, Sigma is already committed to L Mount, I can't see either buying the division from Olympus. And if they did, the future of Olympus MFT would be just as grim, I'd say they're equally likely as owners to shut up shop with MFT as JIP is. People don't want to handle the hassle/cost of another SIM card contract, embedded or not. What is needed is tighter and better integration with your phone, so that shooting with your mirrorless/DSLR is just about as seamless as shooting with your cellphone camera itself! This is the core point (along with the "buz buzz buzzzz" of repeating that Nikon needs to sort out their DX Lens Lineup!!) Thom Hogan has been going on about for years! & I fully agree.

UH OH!! Micro Four Thirds can still have a future, as the completeness of their ecosystem is second to none in the mirrorless world. And they can still give you a far more compact portable travel kit than anybody else, yes even more so than Fujifilm's APS-C (and no, Nikon 1 / Pentax Q systems don't count!). Panasonic does still have the other camera brands of Blackmagic, DJI, Yi, Kinefinity, Z Cam, JVC, etc who play a supporting role as they've been making Micro Four Thirds mount cameras in the past (plus the many many third parties making lenses and other accessories for the MFT ecosystem). However the loss of Olympus who has been there since the earliest days will be a big blow, and does mark the future look a little less rosy.

The New Panasonic G100 “vlogging” Camera to launch June 24th

SAD!! That's a big fat no from me. Without IBIS it can't stack up in my eyes as an alternative to the Panasonic G85. Nah, Panasonic doesn't have the reach/desire/motivation/momentum/drive to give the same degree of big marketing push as Sony does. -

Darn it! Clearly the tripod-grip DMW-SHGR1 is a hardwired devices, had hoped it would operate remotely over bluetooth The Sony doesn't have interchangeable lenses. -

That is how I read that spec as well, that it was the limit based upon battery life. (and not the limit based on firmware, that is still unknown... hopefully unlimited?? And hopefully USB powering!! I'd hope all 2020 cameras have that) -

Good. Making it super easy to share content is a key feature to make it a hit with vloggers. Likewise I am hopeful about the DMW-SHGR1 tripod/handle, hopefully it is one of those mini fold out tabletop tripods which can also fold in to be a handle. But, also with key integrations into the G100 camera: such as at least at a minimum having an easy to reach stop/start button for recordings directly from the handle itself. https://www.43rumors.com/ft5-more-g100-specs-leaked/ "3840x2160" Oh well, so it is not 4K DCI. "MicroHDMI TypeD" Oh well. But to be expected. -

Interesting they're using Nokia OZO branding. As years ago, the Nokia OZO was a very expensive ($40K!!) camera: https://www.cnet.com/reviews/nokia-ozo-preview/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_OZO But now, it is an audio branding by Nokia: https://www.nokia.com/ozo/ -
Interesting update of the Zoom H3-VR ambisonics mic by intergrating a 360VR camera into it as well. Fingers crossed they've improved the pre-amps / mic capsules from the H3-VR.

The Shure SM57 isn't a mic you should be booming out of shot, just have it viewable on screen instead if you're going to be using it. You could pick up a secondhand Sound Devices MP-1 for the same cost. Spend the extra hundred bucks: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1513937-REG/deity_microphones_s_mic_2s_shotgun_microphone.html It's a cardioid though, so a broader pick up pattern than the OP wants I'd presume if he's just interviewing a single seated subject on camera.

The New Panasonic G100 “vlogging” Camera to launch June 24th

I agree that wider than 24mm is nice, say 20mm or even 18mm But also I was wanting to imagine a P&S with a big broader appeal than just selfie-vloggers. Feel that 24mm is right on the edge of being usable as a "general purpose" photography lens, if you're 18mm then every shot is always a wiiiiiiiide shot. While 24mm (or perhaps 28mm) is also right on the edge for being the narrowest you can use for a selfie video. Thus a 24mm lens seems like the perfect "sweet spot" to make a P&S camera which can appeal to both vloggers (especially if sold with a screw on wide angle adapter) and a wider general audience. Another alternative is if you it got sold with a zoom lens (wish the Nikon DL18-50 had got launched for sale!!), but a zoom lens instead of a prime lens will mean a compromise on one or more of: compactness (or durability, if the zoom lens mechanism folds in flat. Broken a few of my Fujifilm P&S cameras that way :-/ ), price, F-stop. Am disappointed there has only been a steady gradual decline in price of the Panasonic G85, especially when the G95 came out I hoped for a big sharp drop in eBay prices. But nope, I guess largely because the G95 release was kinda a let down. Ditto the Panasonic GH5, which is still holding strong at around US$1K on eBay (either a little more or a little less). Which to be fair, is cheap! But yet, this is a camera announced back in January 2017!!! Thus GH5 prices are holding up for a similar reason, due to the lack of a strongly successful successor camera, and is a reflection on just how good and relevant the GH5 is in 2020. A certain amount of irony to have a vlog camera without vlog -

Yes, if Panasonic simply caught up with the best in AF when the subject is within 3m then even if AF beyond 3m remained at the same current standard for Panasonic, that would still be fine enough for 90% of YouTube/vlogger reviewers out there. (as who has arms longer than 3m anyway??) Hope Panasonic's launch doesn't get lost in the big news splashes from Sony/Canon. As honestly a sub $1K camera from Panasonic would be a far far better choice for most vloggers/YouTubers than some headline grabbing camera which costs multiple times that. -
The XLR addition in the XC15 allows easy quick control over gain settings and usage of phantom powered boom mics. Although yes, the likes of an additional stronger ND in it is something the "XC10 mk3" should have too.

Global Shutter cameras have always been a compromise, sometimes really serious compromises. This is why it is no surprise that there is only currently just one professional grade cinema in widespread usage: the Sony PMW-F55 (plus the very niche Phantom). And you clearly do *not* need a global shutter to be widely successful, ARRI doesn't. Thus I don't want small startups with a promising future like Z Cam, to waste their precious limited resources on developing a camera which will be a flop such as their global shutter Z Cam E2-GS As for the RED Komodo, we all know RED has a very very long history of... should I say "lying"? Let's just say, "over promising" / being "hyperbolic" / "generously optimistic". Let's wait until we see Komodo available in stock at retail stores to buy, and has reviews from non-biased / non-censored reviewers.

Don't forget to SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON! & hit the bell notification! -
What if it is only the performance of a BMPC4K? (yes, the old Production 4K camera) And all it adds is putting it into the Z Cam E2-S6 body / form factor (but with the price too!). I hope JVC doesn't release a global shutter camera at the moment. As yes you are right, Kinson did say that, it was a mistake for them to release a global shutter Z Cam. As they got badly mislead by a small but vocal minority into believing "global shutter" is far more important than it really is. (and I was telling them this back then too! I was quite vocal myself in their discussions trying to be the voice of reason and being "anti global shutter")
