  1. But is that a true increase in cases, or is it just because they're finally testing for them now? The government needs to not interfere with price signals, so that prices are free to float for supply to match demand. Higher prices can lead to great supply coming online, for instance, vodka distilleries making hand sanitisers: https://thespinoff.co.nz/food/22-03-2020/from-vodka-to-hand-sanitiser-boutique-distilleries-switch-up-to-tackle-covid-19/
  2. Yes, but you could get say a secondhand original Atomos Shogun for say a little more than US$500ish soon? Bet the recession is going to make a FS700 hit US$500ish within a year, so all up for around a grand ish for that combo? Far cheaper than a Z Cam E2-S6!
  3. Do this sooner rather than later! Before the great recession hits again and the market is flooded with used gear. Ohhhh... I'd be very much looking forward to that! (and I've got plenty of spare time now to watch it....) Very gracious of her! He should help "stimulate this economy" by buying himself a Nikon 200-500mm lens instead
  4. If it is properly windy, you need a blimp. Three of the main brands would be: Cinela (thought of as "the best" by many) Rycote (surely the most popular!) Rode (the budget choice) Check the seal at the entrance, tape it down if you must.
  5. Italy has the second most elderly population in the world, behind Japan. They have a higher rate of smokers than the US. Italy has 5X the mortality from the seasonal flu as the US, it is not unreasonable to expect that from this virus. Reports now indicate over 90% of fatalities involved serious underlying health issues, chiefly heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. And they got a massive dose of infection, not one or two carriers, but thousands, from the imported Chinese labor that returned after the holiday shutdown. Plus, like the Chinese and Sub-Saharan Africans, their personal interaction space is much closer than many other countries. There are often 3 or more generations living together in an already densely populated country. They're a very social culture. And not one single European Union country answered their pleas for help (EU? What EU? I think Italy just delivered the killer blow to the experiment which was the Euro Dream). Perfect storm. Four days in a row now of zero cases.
  6. Not really.... bloody expensive and a half to get your hands on those toilet rolls! Much more economical (even with its "flaws") to use your 3D prints
  7. At least there is still some shooting going on! Have been working today on a Coronavirus TV commercial, got more tomorrow again as well. My bookings beyond then are looking pretty bare though, had cancellations/delays.
  8. Oh sh*t!! I wasn't aware of that :-/ 😞 That sucks. yeah, kinda makes a lot more sense their decision now That's a good plan! Utterly crazy you can't sell goods at IBC?? If only you could, that could help change the math so much more for the teeny bit players so that that they rationalize having a small stand! Like this: https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/17/21184308/coronavirus-italy-medical-3d-print-valves-treatments
  9. A silver lining about the coronavirus: I'm working on an advert for it today (and tomorrow)
  10. The key is to find a FS5 (or a FS700!) which already has the 4K raw upgrade! As they often sell for similar prices as those which don't! USA is far far too trigger happy when it comes to lawsuits. (even though some evidence indicates all that armour makes the risks WORSE)
  11. The massive cost to ship the teams and gear to Oz is HUGE! They should have let that last F1 race at Melbourne run all the way through. Ban the spectators, but let them race. (if the teams want to) After all, is there any other sport on earth where the participants are more isolated from each other than F1 drivers in their cars?
  12. The vaccine will be affordable for all? Good news!
  13. Don't be silly, if you're that rich you're not going to buy an Andromeda with those riches, you could afford a used Arri Alexa Mini with that!
  14. I'm shocked! And surprised! /s Nah, not really. Honestly, most people should be expecting that any big event being held in the first half of 2020 has a very very high chance of being cancelled. Even if a country is back to allowing gatherings of thousands and thousands of people by May this year, the odds are high there are still many other restrictions in place which would scuttle the event. Such as banning people coming from certain countries, or enforcing two week long quarantines for new visitors (effectively a ban! What exhibitor is going to come under those conditions??), or who knows what else. It is good for organizers to signal as far out as possible that an event is going to be cancelled, so that people don't need to waste time and money on preparing for it. Our local government showed shocking incompetence by a week ago cancelling the Pasifika Festival (it's the largest event of its kind in the world!) only the DAY BEFORE it was going to start!! WTF Many many many people had already traveled here to NZ at great expense for this, countless food stall holders will have already spent thousands on purchasing food and started cooking it already (who are often low income people who can't afford this loss!). They should have announced this a week earlier. Or even just a couple of days earlier would have saved many people much effort and great expense! I'd like to see this too. Perhaps this will be the rise of new smaller exhibitions?
  15. As a person who lives in a rugby mad nation it seems utterly MAD how much protection your "contact sports" players wear though. Looks ridiculous how much the NFL wears Studs, stubbies, and a jersey is all you need to wear mate.
  16. Silver lining: I think we're going to see an upswing in weddings being filmed in around 2023 or so.
  17. It is a VERY weird scenario the day China ever says anything positive about Japan! So seeing as how hell hasn't frozen over, the other alternative is I'm going to give this news story the benefit of the doubt that there is some truth to it.
  18. Fuji = makes amazing hybrid cameras Fuji = makes amazing cinema glass Fuji = cures cancer coronavirus? Is there anything Fuji can't do??
  19. YUSSSSSSSSSSSS! My local supermarket currently has NO BREAD, and NO PASTA! More people can now join me on the path of the Low Carb Lifestyle *evil cackle* Hahahaha 😄 Wonder if my Uncle does that when he visits us, doubt it? But nothing would really surprise me. And in the current environment, more people should do this while flying!! Edit: oh, he's Kohein. Well then, that makes more sense? Doesn't seem so strange now at all. Found the source of the pic, which gives more context: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2307713/Pictured-Orthodox-Jewish-man-covers-PLASTIC-BAG-flight.html
  20. https://babylonbee.com/news/italy-totally-fine-thanks-to-universal-healthcare Good news! Italy is doing great So, it is time to ditch the fear, and get on out there and create! Anybody want to shoot a doco about the coronavirus with me? I'll pay you in exposure.
  21. Possible indeed a case of sunk cost fallacy you're feeling, but 80% of your work that you've already done is still going to be applicable if you were to launch later on in the future once we've got a few positive months of economic growth in a row? So cheer up by thinking about that, and put your time instead into preparing other things to be ready as well for after the pandemic. "Financially self isolating"! ha
  22. If the GH6 gets announced at the same price as the GH5 was at launch then it will cost a few hundred more than the X-T4 And honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Panasonic even tried to pull off pricing the GH6 as high as US$2.5K! (but I hope not) None the less, I agree, I bet the GH6 will offer even more bang for buck! Was fully expecting to see a GH6 in 2020, but with the coronavirus all bets are off now
  23. My gut guess is this is a bad timing to do crowd funding, on average people are going to have a lot less disposable income right now than they used to. Eh, how that graph looks depends on what countries you put on it! Up until just now, then the USA would've looked really great with how many tests they're doing in comparison to New Zealand! We've been doing waaaaaaaaay less per million people than the USA is doing.
  24. Sometimes mutations are a good thing, is for instance how the SARS virus was helped to be contained a few years back. Because there was a mutation of SARS which was less deadly that then spread. As an extremely virulent virus that kills the host before the infection can spread would have a competitive disadvantage.
