Would be interesting to see this graphed not as a total number of deaths, but deaths as the total amount of world population at the time. As if so, then good grief, that Plague of Justinian must dominate the rest! So many deaths, for what must've been a relatively small world population back then. As what, the population was 200 ish million back around 500 AD? And they got thirty to FIFTY MILLION DEATHS??? WTF Edit: although hang on, just ran the numbers, Black Death has 200 million and be then the world population was only up to around 400 ish million? HALF DEAD? Yikes.

Whatever you do, make sure your bookings allow you to freely cancel or rebook the dates without charge! (lots of airlines are offering this as a sweetener to entice people to still book with them) As I personally think this will last for more than just a few weeks. It got only ONE bid on it, sold for the reverse price of US$3.5K https://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-PMW-F5-CineAlta-Digital-Camera-VIEW-FINDER-TRIPOD-3-BATT-CHARGER-INCLUDED-/233521807672 That's an INSANE price for a Sony F5! Especially as it came with the rig / viewfinder / batteries / tripod! (kinda sort of wish I'd got this F5 instead of spending even more than that on a Sound Devices 833? eh)

It is an interesting thought experiment to ponder: What if there had never been an impeachment?? The media would need to have found a different news story to hype up instead to fill up their pages and air time. I bet the media's coverage and intensity of the Wuhan Virus would have started a lot earlier than it did in the USA. And nobody is impervious to political pressure! Not even Trump! (as much as he pretends he totally ignores "the fake news", even Trump takes heed of what people are saying if enough people say it often enough and loud enough) Thus, is it possible that just maaaybe Trump might have acted strongly a week or three earlier in response to the Wuhan Virus if everyone hadn't been preoccupied with the impeachment media storm for months on end??? Hmmmm I've no idea! But you've got to wonder??

I think you'd need to be a little oblivious of the recent news to not be aware of what @sanveer is saying? (not meaning to imply I agree with him, but I at least understand the perspective he is coming from) For instance, here are the top two results I got for "China" when I searched Google from the news just now, major headline stories from big mainstream news sites: Trump angers Beijing with 'Chinese virus' tweet https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-51928011 Trump sparks anger by calling coronavirus the 'Chinese virus' https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/17/trump-calls-covid-19-the-chinese-virus-as-rift-with-coronavirus-beijing-escalates There are countless more like this that have been published just in the past 24hrs or so: Trump tweets about coronavirus using term 'Chinese Virus' https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/trump-tweets-about-coronavirus-using-term-chinese-virus-n1161161 Trump’s ‘Chinese Virus’ Tweet Adds Fuel to Fire With Beijing https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-17/trump-s-chinese-virus-tweet-adds-fuel-to-fire-with-beijing China to Pompeo: Stop Calling It the ‘Wuhan Virus’ https://www.thedailybeast.com/china-tells-pompeo-to-stop-calling-coronavirus-covid-19-wuhan-virus Trump Roundly Condemned for Divisive ‘Chinese Virus’ Tweet https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-roundly-condemned-for-divisive-chinese-virus-tweet Trump called it the 'Wuhan coronavirus' for a legal — and commonsensical — reason https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/487931-trump-called-it-the-wuhan-coronavirus-for-a-legal-and-commonsensical

Ouch! US$1500 is a LOT to spend on firmware upgrades on a camera which is barely worth more than that secondhand. I'm kinda hoping the Coronavirus/Recession (plus of course the FX9/FX6, and whatever Canon does to apply further pressure) will push the FS7 to be as cheap as a FS5! Wish Atomos would release a "Samurai V" (like a Blade V, but with SDI instead of HDMI!), that would make an excellent compact recorder/monitor for the FS5/FS700. Personally I feel 7" is sometimes too much to match with a FS5/FS700 The $11K FX9 is going to get 4K DCI in a firmware update btw.

Are you doing any different? You're also just saying how you don't see them around yourself. I'm saying in a number of production niches they're quite common, and I do see them around. Heck, on the latest film I worked on earlier this week they had a readyrig (the close cousin to the easyrig) there on set! It wasn't used on this particular film. But it was setup and standing by, ready (ha!) to be used. Why are there these people in this thread who keep on going off topic?? Now, let's get back to the matter at hand: discussing easyrigs

Yes people might be coy in answering, but professional pollsters do take into account many factors. And there were many many polling organisations who right up until the very day of the election itself felt very confident Clinton was going to win. (such as New York Times and even FiveThirtyEight!! To be fair, FiveThirtyEight was one of the most "optimistic" about Trump winning, but even they gave Clinton a 71% chance of winning!)

Saw an ARRI ALEXA Classic sell for sub US$5K on eBay today: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ARRI-Alexa-EV-Classic-Camera-Bundle-High-Speed-License/324102741260 Bet this is only the start, we'll see many more insane prices happen before we're out of the worst of this! Wonder just how much cheaper we'll see an ARRI ALEXA Classic sell for over the next eighteen months, what else will come crashing down in price? There is a Sony PMW-F5 on eBay with no bids about to end soon for $3.5K One thing that I was surprised how high it was being bid up for is a Blackmagic Design Web Presenter! (and it's the only one on eBay too) I guess people really really want to do live streaming, rather than meetings in person!

100% Australia (and NZ) won't have a surplus at the end of this current budget cycle. The whole world is going to go into a recession. #EndTheFed Without The Fed artificially pumping up the economy then the USA wouldn't need to go through the double pain of the coronavirus and the bubble bursting at the same time. You also have many many more multi generational homes in Italy than in the USA, which could contribute to a higher death toll. However, I personally still believe that in the long run the USA will have a higher death toll than Italy, simply because USA's population is so so much bigger. However which will have the higher number of deaths per capita? I really do not know. Clinton didn't win the election. The election wasn't a popularity contest. (and if it was, then both candidates and both parties would have run their campaigns completely differently, it is almost impossible to predict what would the result have been if it has been a contest on the basis of the popular vote instead) And those predictions based on polling (such as The New York Times saying Clinton had an over 90% chance of winning, or The Princeton Election Consortium gave Clinton a 99 percent chance of winning. Or The Huffington Post’s forecast giving Clinton 98 percent, or how PredictWise gave her 89 percent etc etc) was all based on the fact it is a federal election with an electoral college. (in other words, their predictions were not about her "winning" the popular vote, they were very very very confident about her winning the electoral college. What the actual contest was about)

Yeah, I definitely reckon any delusional dreams I had before of buying a FS7/F5 (or even FS5/FS700) are gone, I might even skip for another year the buying of a Panasonic G85! ha Unless... somehow I defy all odds and have a great year! Then I can snap up a fire sale bargain??

As a "younger reader" I need an explanation! Otherwise my fertile imagination is providing explanations as to what you mean... Although Google saved my innocence, I think this is what you're referring to: Penn looks so young in this, what a baby face: Teller meanwhile hasn't aged a day (his voice sounds exactly the same too!): Get started early on the 8K rat race and use a 36 megapixel camera!! Nikon D800 (or Sony a7Rmk1) are now very very cheap on eBay.

Heh. We kinda sort of had this just happen in New Zealand. For ages NZ did next to nothing, had a pretty minimal approach. Our Prime Minister said we didn't need to. And then BOOM, almost overnight we've basically kinda closed our borders off (NOBODY can come, not unless they want to get themselves live two weeks in isolation once they arrive) and any gathering over 500 people is banned. Either that, or a world wide macro lens test, as everybody uses the only actors they can find while under house arrest quarantine:
-
A teeny part of me wonders "what if we should have got this disaster over and done with double quickly while we enjoyed the peak of summer time, rather than delaying the worst of it until we reach the middle of our winter?? Hmmm" I mean, I think the current approach NZ is doing is right?? But I do hope we don't look back with hindsight and realize we got the timing completely wrong!

Huh? Don't be going off topic! I thought this thread was a discussion about the anti-easyrig brigade vs the easyrig fanboys?

Do that now for the original Sigma lens as well for comparison. Googling to check, it seems it is "near parfocal": https://www.newsshooter.com/2016/12/04/does-the-sigma-18-35mm-f1-8-hold-focus-when-zoomed-and-could-your-lens-adapter-be-part-of-the-problem-or-solution/ Like I've been saying from the start, the chinese modding company isn't changing the optical design of the lens. Just doing window dressing of how the external body of it looks. (swapping the mount for PL, making it beefier, adding focus gears, etc)

Indeed, I've never ever borrowed money to buy anything. Although Sound Mixing is by far and by far the bulk of my income currently, I've got a couple of other things I do on the side which I could survive on even if my sound work completely collapsed. (however... those are just as likely to be badly harmed by a recession as well! oh well) Yup, the local labour market is going to be flooded with a lot more people looking for work! Hopefully for them this shut down is only for a fortnight, as that is what they're claiming it is just for. Perhaps for overseas stars/crew who need to do the stand down quarantine for two weeks that just got announced by our PM? But I doubt that, production has been running along for a while now, I would have thought they'd already be here? Plus of course they say now it is "just for two weeks", but who knows what happens over the coming days, it might very well get worse and then they'll need to postpone production indefinitely.

Yes, that is my point, the Cinematics 18-35 won't be either
-
Yes, as a kiwi when I read news stories from the USA I often have moments of massive WTFery that you've got such retarded bureaucracy/wastage unlike what I get to enjoy here in New Zealand. (not that we're perfect either) For one example of many: https://reason.com/2019/08/01/occupational-licensing-is-keeping-americans-stuck-in-place/ A quarter of jobs need a license??? Wow, that just sounds like utter madness to me! Although, you always have to be vigilant that NZ doesn't go down that path of following America as well... https://offsettingbehaviour.blogspot.com/2015/02/occupational-licensing-repo-edition.html
-
Ah I see what you mean now. Didn't think you'd be buying the Cinematic modded lenses if you're getting it in the EF version. As usually people are buying them so they can get the PL mount to use on PL cameras. Not a good reason to get them in EF mount in my opinion, they're still optically the same lenses! As Cinematics isn't changing the optical design, they're just redressing the externals of the lens.

You do realize both of those lists I referred to are AMERICAN?
-
Yeah.... terrible news for him. Hopefully he gets some new bookings to replace what he lost. Grab any of the many sick patients and you can save on your make up budget too!
-
Welllllll...... diarrhea is one of the symptoms of the coronavirus!
-
I wonder what Ebrahim Saadawi is up to? Which is unfortunately what Italy is having to do now, giving up on really sick cases which seem more likely to die so they can focus on the (relatively) healthy ish cases instead who still can live. I'm betting on Israel being first? https://www.jpost.com/HEALTH-SCIENCE/Israeli-scientists-In-three-weeks-we-will-have-coronavirus-vaccine-619101 I've got two weeks worth of canned food, just in case I need to go into quarantine. I just today had a fellow Sound Mixer here in Auckland get his upcoming 3 month long gig cancelled because BBC is cancelling all travel. On the 27th Feb I did my biggest purchase of the year: a new Lectrosonics LT Oops Going to try very hard not to do any more major purchases at all! Not until I get a better idea of how my finances will look this year, as the future is looking cloudy and uncertain. We're going to hit a coronavirus great recession for sure :-/

Cruise ship passengers definitely skew a lot higher than the general population! We could treat that number as an upper bound.

Got some bad news for you buddy I'm afraid! New Zealand (First Place!) ranks higher than the USA (15th) when it comes to freedom! https://www.cato.org/human-freedom-index-new Here is another different list put together by a different organisation: https://www.heritage.org/index/ranking Uh oh, sorry, New Zealand (3rd) is once again ranked ahead of the USA! (12th) Once the USA has solved their coronavirus problem, feel free to come over and visit New Zealand to enjoy some freedom 😉
