  1. Maybe the trade shows will need to reinvent themselves as smaller / less grand / less pretentious events? Like they were a decade or three ago. Don't host them at expensive real estate downtown, hold it in a warehouse somewhere cheap on the outskirts.
  2. The DR range of the 4K sensor is much less than the 4.6K sensor, also is worse in low light. I'd 110% go for the 4.6K version instead. Also if you go for the Pro version, you'll be able to swap the mount between the EF and PL version. But I'd say if you're looking at the cheap price of a URSA Mini 4K then definitely EF is the way to go for you, otherwise you'd be spending much much more on the lenses than you've got the budget for. The Nikon / Canon mount isn't merely "a few hundred cheaper" (which is technically true?), but is HALF THE PRICE. And you can't shoot with just that lens, got to get the Sigma 50-100 as well. Then goes another couple of grand. And what if you want something longer / wider such as 135mm / 200mm / 14mm / 10mm?? Well there goes thousands of dollars more to get them in a PL mount! You don't really rent single lenses, you rent entire sets, which can get pricey.
  3. THIS! If people have never edited before they don't always realize the big difference between stills (you only need less than a MOMENT) vs video. (you need longer segments, to tell a story)
  4. You didn't have multiple entire countries shutting down like this over those other situations. And Italy too just had "a few" deaths, then a few dozen, then BOOM two hundred deaths in a single day. That's what happens with exponential growth. Don't be complacent now, otherwise soon it will be too late.
  5. Many of us didn't experience the brunt of it. However my partner was a teenager who lived through it in her home city, she saw first hand the worst of it. Is why she has been so very very freaked out about the coronavirus for weeks and weeks now. Even though Helen and I live "far away" in Auckland, it is only a matter of time it seems, especially if our governments and others don't react sensibly to it. It is a heck of a lot more hassle and effort for influencers/professionals/customers/media to go to dozens of events during a year rather than just go to small handful: NAB / CineGear / IBC / etc. Heck, for many people they're lucky to just go to ONE of these per year. Plus what about the really small companies? Such as Tentacle, Z Cam, or Venus Optics, just to name a few of many many of them! Next to nobody at all would go to their yearly launch events. But at NAB they can get it viewed by hundreds of even thousands of people, and get media coverage across dozens of sources. This is just plain IMPOSSIBLE for them to do by themselves!
  6. I'd send EVERYONE this! But even so, I'd be fully ready to accept that we're probably going to get back some videos in VERTICAL! Arrrgghhh Keep your expectations low, very low.
  7. At this point, yes. But up until just a few days ago it was hopefully that maybe perhaps it was still going ahead at a scaled down level. However the coronavirus pandemic has just been getting worse and worse by the hour lately.
  8. As film shoots get cancelled, replace them with bookings for live shoots? As those may see an increase, for "virtual meetings" / "virtual product launches" / etc
  9. I expect there is going to be a broad range of responses, depending on what type of consumers they're targeting, how far along their product development cycle they were, and what their supply chain is like. For instance a company which has already completed product development, and who doesn't have a supply chain which isn't majorly impacted by China shutting down (they might even already have built up a large quantity of launch stock) might announce right away. As why wait for the economy to get even worse? Why wait for competitors to catch up to them? Why wait around with all this inventory just sitting there doing nothing? While those in an opposite scenario will take the opposite approach and may not announce until months after when NAB would've been.
  10. https://www.newsshooter.com/2020/03/12/nab-2020-is-officially-canceled/ Noooooo..... NAB is cancelled!!! I fear its going to get worse in the USA before it gets better. And it has barely even started here in NZ at all. Brace yourself for a global recession. (which I had believed we were overdue for anyway, even before the Coronavirus struck) What now for all the companies who would have been at NAB and made announcements? Announce their new products now? Announce them during when the NAB period would have been? Announce them later on in the year after NAB? (at a different/smaller trade show, that might get cancelled as well? Maybe announcing it late is a better idea? Rather than during the NAB period. As many companies will have their supply chains disrupted and products will be delayed)

  13. Insane a lens this wide works on a medium format camera! https://www.diyphotography.net/here-are-the-first-images-taken-with-the-laowa15mm-f-4-5-shift-lens/ It's crazy it works at all @ 15mm, let alone has shift as well! Will come in a range of mounts, here it is on a Nikon D750!

Their larger sensors is just the same sensor but a bigger cut of the sensor wafer. It's their work around to get 4K until their S35 4K sensor is ready to be launched.
  15. When you've got budget for a grip/AC to minimize each and every second the camera spends on your shoulder, then yeah an easyrig is going to be used less.
  16. As I've repeatedly said, am not at all making the claim it is the dominant tool of choice by DoPs, just that it is a commonly used one that isn't unusual to see. Just like all these other tools: And on that we can agree. At this point I'm not even sure what even is exactly the point you're trying to make? Unless the point is that they're not used at all? (which is clearly wrong) Or is the point just to argue?

Those are still a very very small niche of the total number of commercial productions made. You can't even buy an Alexa 65 This. I wouldn't be surprised if the Arri LF wouldn't even exist if Arri could have launched their 4K S35 sensor first. Unfortunately that is taking them a lot of time, that was meant to come out this year, but has already been pushed back to next year.

So called "Full Frame" also is not used widely on multi million dollar plus productions.
  19. Zombie thread from 2013!! Yeah, this is a spammer. Curious how even after SEVEN YEARS (ok, more like 6 and a bit) the Sony F35 has only dropped a further 50% in value since then. It is 2020 and we still don't have an affordable Sony or Panasonic offering internal ProRes or raw! 😞
  20. A few links from locally in NZ / Australia: https://acmag.com.au/2017/03/01/easyrig-vario-5/ https://www.nzcine.com/7324131 I wouldn't go quite so far as @barefoot_dp (although in some niches/circles, he's right I'd suppose) and say they're almost always used, or that they're more common than dolly/tripods, but they're definitely very very popular and commonly used.
  21. If you think you're going to probably sell it in the future and you're unlikely to need it yourself, then I'd sell it sooner rather than later. As very very clearly Sony is ditching the FZ mount for E Mount instead, even on their highest end cameras! (VENICE) Thus at the moment only F5/F55 owners will pay a high price for an EF - FZ active adapter, and those users will be disappearing over time.
  22. You're misreading this, nobody is saying an easyrig is being used more often than anything else.
  23. Well, I live in an office building so I haven't purchased toilet paper in years!
