  1. Always said that I dream a Panasonic GX body with the GH5s sensor, IBIS and PDAF...
  2. Yeah, but my question was about the other makers. Why they not choose other supplier? If BM can finance a newly developed custom sensor for a camera that will generate less revenue than a regular camera (even with the 10k price), why the others still uses Sony sensors?
  3. Fuji have PDAF in their entire lineup (XT-4 to X-A7), yes, Olympus is wrong.
  4. Interesting that Olympus have all in hand to make the perfect vlogger camera - which looks like a target demographic now. Get the E-M10 MK III (or the new IV), put the E-M5 MK III sensor with PDAF, make some work with the AF especially with eye / face detect, correct the auto exposure in video (Camera Conspiracies had a very good video about it) headphone and mic jack. Maybe ditch the EVF if it is not needed by them (I really don't know). Put a flippy screen and a $699 price (or $799 with EVF) and bingo.
  5. This custom sensor is a very interesting story. If BM, a much smaller company than Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Fuji, etc...could design and order to manufacture a custom sensor (and, by the description, a VERY sophisticated one), why these companies still are hostages of Sony sensor-wise? (albeit looks like that Nikon started to use Towerjazz sensors)
  6. Z6, yeah, probably. If Nikon enable 4k60 in the Z6s, probably not. The case is that I don't think that Z6 and Z7 sells very well - z5, even canibalizing the Z6, could finally bring more people to Z mount. But for stills, yeah, the z5 is VERY compelling.
  7. Cripple hammer, Nikon version: 1,7x crop in the Nikon Z5's 4k. This is getting ridiculous. If they just had 4k30 full sensor would move a lot of units.
  8. All corporate jib-jabber; combined with conflicting declarations from Olympus in various media outlets, things still not looking good.
  9. About temps: Lived in Rio de Janeiro for 6 years and in February 40c+ temps are the norm. The right camera in this environment is the one that could be easier to trade for some water with the street vendors. 🙂 (but had great stills form one Carnival taken with a Olympus E-P1 with a Canon FD 50mm)
  10. Ask the wrestler's management to name one of the fighters "Gimbal" and make him your cameraman carrying one between fights. They could even get a sponsorship from Zhiyun or DJI. 🙂 Much less, Amazon had one for $899 other day. Could be found for $999 easily.
  11. Great marketing from Canon - supplying heaters for the homeless in the streets and getting free advertisement . 🙂
  12. What are the issue that you've had with the XT-30 (it have a 10 min time limit in 4k, not)? Have one in my radar, good to have some hands on info.
  13. I'm in the camp that thinks that PDAF and IBIS are very useful - still thinking in get a E-M1 MKII or M5 MK III just because of these two points. Just did not call an Alexa not useful because don''t have both. Could not be useful for me, but don't make the camera unusable.
  14. It was shot from our own @John Brawley, if people come back to treat him well here he could give some useful insights. Maybe even for the troll of the other thread which says that a camera without IBIS or PDAF is not useful...
  15. Market "segmentation" - put $5 BOM parts and charge $100 more.
  16. For sure one will say "that's why the S1H have a fan" when the thread is engulfed in flames.
  17. Yep, don't expected anything else. I know why this - bought a E-M5 MK II with full price just after the release (last time that I've bought a camera just after the launch or preordered) and some months after they released the E-M10 MK II with a much lower price. The MK III had a very dumbed down menu and, for photos specifically, the MK II was a much better deal. The MK IV probably will have the dumbed down menu too (no problem with a simpler graphical menu for newbies - is the target for this camera - but keep the original menu intact); if the 4k is oversampled for the 20mp sensor (which probably is) it could have a bit more quality. If not, get the MK II for stills and MK III for video. Already saw some people selling used MK IIIs in the mu43 forum for US$ 280, it is a bargain.
  18. Would be for stills, not for video, of course. Not need Fuji style controls, too - know the pros from the advocate of the system, but I prefer dials and buttons. I like rangefinder camera style for stills because people are a LOT less afraid when you use it on the streets - generally think that is a film camera and don't bother (or is a conversation starter, had I lot when I used my GX7). And for concert shooting, the security don't bother either (the only time that I had a camera not allowed by security was my GH2 - never had problems with GX7, LX100, GX85 or GX9).
  19. 100% corporate talk, no clear info given.
  20. Well, if Nikon wants me to buy some heritage, just release a Z6 in a S3 2000 like body and some 2.8 compact lenses.
  21. Looks like there will be a E-M10 MK IV soon. Don't expect too much, probably just the 20mp sensor (but with CDAF only), same chipset as the E-M5 MK III, but with fewer modes (no high res shot, simplified interface, etc). But if they do the E-M10 MK II path (which was 85% of the E-M5 MK II with a much lower price) it would be very interesting.
  22. And changing chip process nodes are VERY expensive - each new chip fab expansion from Intel costs around US$ 5 to 10 billion (no, not a typo). Even AMD jettisoned their fabs (that became Global Foundries) and now their chips are made by third parties like TSMC. Panasonic sold their fabs some time ago, don't know who makes their camera chips now. And moving to a new fab node needs a lot of investment in research too, And in a shrinking market, it is hard to justify; only if someone do it first the others will follow. VERY interested to know more about the Sigma FP internals - for a such small company, what they've done is very impressive.
  23. Both cameras don't have LOG profiles; the GX85 could be used in Cinelike D with the magic provided by our own @BTM_Pix. E-M10 MK III have a Muted profile (it is not the Flat Profile from the E-m5 MK II), but never played with that.
