  1. Have to take my LX100 out of the box. You use Aperture to process the LX100 raw files, @BTM_Pix?
  2. All the specs hints that it is just a GX9 repackaged. Since Panasonic released a CinelikeD firmware upgrade for the GX9 some time ago (rumors says that the reason was a f*cking tinkerer in a website forum sowed their idiocity), maybe nobody tried the app on the GX9. At the same time, very probably the closed the loophole in the LX100 II.
  3. Because the Z6 and Z7 have PDAF on sensor, D850 uses CDAF with video - with the crappy results that we all know. And imagine that for the APS-C ones Nikon releases a second version of the F mount adapter with a speedbooster integrated on it. Would be awesome and probably a major selling point. Never will happen, though.
  4. I want to see if your app could solve this problem too... GH5 sensor is not the same as the GX9's one? Or just tuned differently? About the crop - anyone ever used that wide adapters, like Raynox ones? It degrades the image quality?
  5. Endurance, same problem of the Sony's prior to the release of the Z battery - 330 shots rated in the new cameras. But maybe the power saving modes could solve that. A thing that Nikon could REALLY be innovative - sometimes people just need more battery life, does not need the full vertical grip thing. Instead of having only the traditional vertical grip with batteries, the could make a smaller bottom attached battery only, chargeable by USB with Quickcharge 3.0. The EN-EL5 have 1900mah, the probably could make a bottom battery pack with few milimeters height with 4000mah capacity (some phones have this capacity).
  6. My two cents: at first sight, Nikon did right. A lot of people are comparing the Z7 to the D850 (with very toughtful - as usual - remarks like @BTM_Pix), but it is not their target - they aim directly the A7R III. The A7R III have a mode dial? Done it. The Sony does not have a drive mode dial? Gotcha. It is much more a D750/D610 with a higher resolution sensor. The price is too high, though - I guess that we will see a drop to US$ 3200 soon. The real pro cameras will for sure appear down the line - probably with more professional controls, ironing the problems that these 2 first attempts shows. And they have the exactly sales numbers for each tier of cameras, and probably enthusiast tier (Nikon even divides their DSLR in "entry-level", "enthusiast" and "professional" in their website) have the best balance to start. Enthusiasts are (my guess) the people who are more susceptible to try new technologies - amateurs are more focused on price, professionals are focused in a reliable and no workflow / handling disruptive things. Z6 looks very right - price clashing with the A7 III. Both are clearly stills focused - stills people still (no pun intended) buys much more cameras than the video crown. And again, their target was the Sonys in video too - hence just needed to equal than. I was not expecting at all 4k60, and I think that enabling 10-bit 4:2:2 in HDMI was a very clever move - an extra spec that Sonys don't have (yet - could a firmware upgrade enable it?), less demanding internal specs, and for an item that only really cares to specialized people. For enthusiasts, good color OOC is much more valuable (my guess too). The F adapter performance will be very important , especially for stills- if it is ok, could be a major boost. About the top LCD: since only used mirrorless, never tought about it, until other day that I've grabbed an old S5Pro for nothing, and now I'm fond for it . And a lot of people associate a top LCD as "pro" cameras - just have to see that buzz that the top LCDs in Fuji X-H1 and Panny G9 generated. The flaws that I see: - I was never a DSLR user, hence I can't say if the controls are ok. Really strange to not have a AF mode switch - maybe in this tier it is not considerar important (or, more probably, "since the Sonys do not have it either...")? - Single card slot. They should have gone to the XQD + SD route, if they want to move to XQD. It is a thing that Sonys have, they don't. - Price of the Z7 is totally wrong. Should be the same of the A7R III, at least. But, at least until now, I think that they striked a very good balance for a start. Let's wait to see the real world tests - normally the second batch of the reviews, after the first rushed ones "to be the first to publish". Oh, forgot to mention the use of the current batteries, huge flaw. Ok, understandable in their point of view to cater the current Nikon users, and the "keep compatibility" history of the Nikons, but Sony showed the way with the Z batteries.
  7. Panasonic launched it today, to not be engulfed by Nikon tomorrow. All the bigger sites have reviews, Photobyrichard have more pleasing JPGS (amazing how bad the photos that big sites reviewers takes): http://www.photobyrichard.com/reviewbyrichard/panasonic-lumix-lx100-ii-review/ As I expected, is a GX9 (sensor, touchscreen, funcionalities) inserted in the LX100 body (fixed screen, same EVF, same lens). And GX9 4k crop is there too, and more severe, 1.34x (this means that with the lens in the 24mm position, is a 32mm in 4k). That crop killed the GX9 for me, could kill the LX100 II too.
  8. I expect the more expensive one be like a D850 mirrorless, and the lower one have the exact same specs and price as the A7III. Don't hope 4k60 in none of the cameras - the are clearly stills oriented, the flip screen (not a fully articulated one) with huge bezels is a hint. This was made for Nikon still shooters, and they are right, I guess.
  9. No and yes, I guess. By the specs and pics, it really looks like an GX9 inside in a LX100 body with no modifications.
  10. m4/3 need to up their game in video CAF - Panasonic need urgently to implement PDAF, Olympus need to improve theirs. Low light (especially for stills) need to improve too - but this is dependent of Sony to supply more BSI sensors (AFAIK the GH5s have the only BSI m4/3 sensor). In fact, I've always had m4/3 cameras almost only, but now I am waiting to see where it goes. Love the format, but the future looks bleak - could become a video only niche, and don't know if it could survive.

  12. +1 here for the articulated screen. Maybe it is a touch one now, at least. I think that the lens is somewhat murky in the corners, but you can't do miracles at this cost. Guess that it will be a 20mp sensor, and afraid that they use a crop instead of oversampling for 4k. No hopes for 4k60 fps too, looks like a VERY restrained upgrade. But with updated engine / colors, more resolution for stills, maybe a touchscreen and some more internal enhancements, could still be interesting if the price is right. But was a missed opportunity.
  13. Little OT question, @Andrew Reid: any news about the GX9 review?
  14. Unfortunately looks like I was right, if these pictures from Nokishita are real (they used to be VERY reliable): there was 2 changes on the body, the grip is different and (finally) one of the top buttons is now programmable. NOTHING ELSE was changed. ? https://www.nokishita-camera.com/2018/08/dc-lx100m2.html
  15. Or a Moza AirCross, which sometimes appears on sale. I have a Crane M, work very well, but have the same weight restriction of the G6 - even less, 650g. Worked very well even with my GX85 with the Rokinon 12mm f/2, but now I wished to get a stronger gimbal to fly heavier cameras.
  16. I saw an article once saying that Youtube switches to a better codec / bitrate when you upload your video in 4k - except if you are a Youtube Partner, then you always have the best encoding options.
  17. Rooting the Samsung's S is not advisable anymore. Since the S6, they've put a hardware "fuse" that detects that your phone is rooted and it disables Knox (and it is not recoverable like in the past, using Triangle Away apps). And without Knox a lot of Samsung apps do not work (like Health and Secure Folder), making your phone less valuable if you decide to sell it used ahead.
  18. 43rumors is saying now that "the resolution will increase". This means that probably the current 20mp 4/3 gen sensor will be used. If the same lens is used (which I think is probably the case - don't see Panasonic spending resources to a newly developed lens, and Fuji take the same path on X100 line), the resolution would be 15mp. Maybe changing the sensor / lens distance a little bit to achieve 16mp (remembering that the LX100 lens did not cover the whole sensor). Do not see IBIS in the camera too, only lens stabilization. Flip screen, probably. 4k60 is possible, but probably limited (5 ou 15 minutes), maybe 4k30 and 24 could be extended to 30 mins - overheating and no-canibalization issues. For the same two reasons, probably a big crop when in 4k mode (which would be very silly, but since the Canon M50 did it...). And unfortunately, the same sequential field EVF. Hoping A LOT that I'm wrong (since I'm very interested in it, still have my LX100), but don't see Panasonic spending too much resources in the new version - and yet, depending on the price point, could be a very tempting camera even with the above restrictions.
  19. Since we are in prediction land, my two cents: - The more expensive one will be exactly a D850 mirrorless, with on-sensor PDAF, IBIS and maybe some more video helps (zebras, peaking, etc), but same video quality / specs. Will not exactly canibalize the D850 because of a higher price tag, better performance with F-mount lens and photographers that prefer OFV's. - The cheaper one will be a A7 III contender, specs by spec. And probably this will be enough for a lot of people. Their first priority is keeping the current Nikon users on board, still photogs first. Stills photographers still buys much more units than the video crowd. Don't expect 10-bit or 60 fps 4k in this first iteration, maybe 10-bit in HDMI out. They will start with the land that they know. At the same time, don't think that they will restrain themselves to not canibalize DSLR - jut will try to keep the prices reasonable at the start to get traction (A7 III put a lot of pressure in prices). For me the clearly see the Z mount as their future - that HUGE size, for me, is to have the possibility to go to medium format at the future with the same mount (and use FF lenses with crop), not to make a better IBIS.
  20. Top of the grip looks classic Nikon, and the LCD display looks like the same of the Leica SL and Fujifilm X-H1. But the dials are strange - the left one looks like a mode dial, but the right one is kind of large to be only a exposure compensation / programmable one...
  21. Muscle memory, that it is. And guess what: I bet that the new lenses will keep focusing in the opposite direction of the Canon ones. Nikon does not want to infuriate their long time customers.
  22. Don't know. Sony almost abandoned their APS-C line, A6500 is kind of long in the tooth, no good APS-C lenses. Nikon and Canon could got to the same way. Fuji could be the king of APS-C format.
  23. About the size of the mount / rear LCD: remember that manufacturer's rendering are not always exactly "correct"- just remember a short while ago the first renderings of the GH5s that looked like it had a s35 sensor inside...
  24. Blurry "leaked" image of the Nikon Z. https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/first-real-world-image-of-the-new-nikon-full-frame-mirrorless-camera/
  25. The audio could suck with testicle syncs, depending in what kind of film industry you work.
