Yeah I read on the BM website the IS on the 14 -42mm does not work on the BMPCC because it is only activated by software, presumably they mean the Panasonic firmware on their cameras. However the DXO review indicates the panny 4/3 zooms are better than the olympus and the olympus 4/3 primes are better than the panny primes. I'll still have to get a panny 14 -42mm as it's all I can afford atm and covers a few bases for now and a cheap 25mm for the bokeh close ups maybe? Shame there is no nifty 50 bargain for 4/3rds tho!!
-
Thanks for that, I'll definitely get one Andy, I only have $120 budget atm, I'm still a fulltime Film Student but I may have some casual work in Jan. I found this review on the 14 -42mm lenses. The cheaper Panny Lens is the better of the 3 and DX0 say it is surprisingly good. Under $100 on ebay posted too. http://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Panasonic-Lumix-G-VARIO-14-42-f3.5-5.6-II-Asph.-Mega-OIS-review-The-Cheapest-Standard-Zoom-for-Micro-4-3-and-Surprisingly-Good/Panasonic-Lumix-G-VARIO-14-42-f3.5-5.6-II-Asph.-Mega-OIS-versus-competition

There are alot of cheaper Olympus 14 -42mm is the panny kit lens better? I'm gonna save up for SLR magic wide, but one of these will have to do for now. What about all those cheap 25mm 1.4 c mounts I see on ebay for $30 do they work?
-
Oh ok EF has no aperture control only manual? I have a Zeis Jena 35mm 2.4 pb mount which I use with the PB - EF adapter it is manual aperture so that should be fine? Do the c-mount lenses require an adapter, aren't they threaded lens mount?

Santa is bringing me a BMPCC for Xmas and now Santa is extremely broke!! What's a great MFT Lens to start with like say the nifty 50mm 1.8 for the Canon is? Is there a good bargain Lens to start with? I've got an M43 adapter on its way for my Canon Lenses but that makes my 35mm my widest atm, an 80mm so I need to know a good cheap option for MFT to start with, or maybe a link with recommendations? Thx!! ps. Do the Komputerbay 600X Sd Cards work ok on BMPCC?

2013 - 10 things which have impressed me - and some that haven't!
Henry Gentles replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Thanks Andrew for all these great insights!! At the beginning of the year I knew nothing about DSLR and was not sure how I was going to make films but now, I have shot a promo and a short doco and taken the advice and alot of the cumulative wisdom that is freely made available through you and your friends here! Merry Xmas and have a great New Year!! -
Can anyone recommend a good cheap HD Lcd 7" Monitor for a film Student just starting out? btw I have a Canon 600D. Thx!

Thx all great info!!

Does anyone know if there are any EF adpaters for the BMPCC, if so which ones? Has Metabones made one yet? Everything I've read about it is so confusing?

Canon 70D no improvement in video quality over 60D
Henry Gentles replied to Aussie Ash's topic in Cameras
It's the same sensor throughout that entire crop sensor range, so same IQ! The only difference is the 7D with slightly better sdcard bandwidth but that is irrelevant because it would only be useful for magic lantern, but the 7D is not magic lantern compatible if I'm not mistaken? -
Anyone know the best cheapest rechargeable batteries for general use like AA or 9v for LED lighting etc? I read somewhere that some brands are pretty useless and should be avoided? Thx!
-
Sweet! It's looking like a no brainer!
-
Yeah, i worked that out, what is the sensor?
-
Thanks for the great reply! Wow the BMPC really has it over the 5D for IQ, its not even close really imo. Does the BMPC have hdmi out for hard disk recorder?
-
For Indie Filmmaking and Music Videos which is the best way to go? Has anyone been down this road? I've seen a few 5d MKii's go for $1300-$1500 2nd hand or is it better to go 4K for $1000.

Thanks, everyone seems to like the Yongnuo on youtube. What about this one? It is cheaper and claims to have more features? http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIOPO-TR-981-High-Speed-Flash-Speedlite-1-8000-For-Canon-as-Yongnuo-YN-568EX-/290907160231?pt=Digital_Camera_Flashes&hash=item43bb6afea7

Can anyone recommend a dirt cheap flash for a Canon 600D? There are so many and so many prices. atm I am a very poor fulltime Film Student so I was thinking a good cheap chinese Flash Unit with a few bells and whistles. I'm not a pro photographer but need something that works well 5 or 6 times per year, if you get my drift? Thx!

For me, for weddings I would use the 18-55mm kit lens for wide and the nifty 50 for indoor general stuff and portraits, with the crop sensor it's about 80mm? The kit lens get dissed but it is very sharp and if you get bad results it's not because of the lens. Not suggesting you 'd get bad shots of course.
-
I would definitely get the Canon 50mm 1.8 first. It's only like $120 delivered off Ebay and it's fast and sharp, perfect for indoors.
-
Oh ok!! I actually saw that if I pulled back a fraction from infinity it was in focus but was confused about the focal length but this makes sense now, thanks!!
-
I just bought a cheap pb mount to eos adapter for a prakticar zeis jena 35/2.4 lens I have. I'm noticing that infinity is out of focus, is this the adapter or is this true of all adapters? What I mean is, are there adapters that have infinity or will they all be out of focus? I buy a wide angle and the wide is out of focus? btw I have a canon 600D and yes I know the crop sensor changes the focal length to approx 50 or whatever.

This video illustrates the biggest flaw of the bmcc perfectly
Henry Gentles replied to KarimNassar's topic in Cameras
Vectorscope is for rgb levels, so what your really talking about is the contrast. I think the video is showing that even though the highs are way too high, in Raw you still have the data bring it all down and correct it. No one is gonna shoot over exposed like that on purpose!! -
Yes the 18 -55mm is sharp and much better than I thought it would be! The 50mm 1.8f is a must, and dirt cheap too. The Samyang cine 85mm lens gets alot of good press from users, that's what I'm buying next but the Canon 85mm is probably much better but costs way more.
-
Yes your quite right, I like the kit lens, it's quite sharp and very convenient and just works. And will get the 50mm when I get more cash for sure. I'm getting some ok photos with the kit lens.
