Thanks for the reply and thanks for all the hard work on the hack. All good now anyway after loading the software again. The CamCorder mode is switched off. Just come back from a couple of hours of shooting with it. Can you tell me how I donate? I've donated to Vasile but not to you yet. Also, would there ever be any chance of having AF-S in video mode? I'd love this for the type of street video shooting I like to do. Would also make Samsung's little primes with no AF switch useful in video.

Just bought one of these for my wife to replace her LX100 and spent yesterday doing some tests. Mainly with video. Nice little camera but I don't find the Dual 5 Axis IBIS anything special when using video (yes, I have updated the lenses and see "Dual" on the screen). The stabilisation is OK but not out of this world using a 12-32 ... certainly not as good as my old E-M1. My NX1 with DIS turned on seems better and more solid. The most annoying this with this camera is the way Panasonic deal with ISO. No min shutter speed in Auto ISO ... really? This is 2016 and they can't (or won't) implement this. Very weird. Can't assign one of the command dials to ISO full time either. I've assigned ISO to the rear command dial when pressing f1 but when changing ISO you can't see the effect on shutter speed instantaneously. Pretty crap going back and forth to see if your happy with the shutter speed ... especially considering this thing has Dual 5 Axis IBIS and you're meant to be able to shoot stills at a low shutter speed. If using Shutter priority & Auto ISO in Movie mode there's no indication of the aperture being used or the ISO either. The only way to tell what ISO was being used is to look at the actual file in play mode afterwards. No Auto ISO in M mode in movies either. It's like your flying blind with this cam. Not quite as frustrating as the Lx100 but pretty close in regards to auto ISO. I’d imagine the GX8 & GH4 would certainly have all these features … why leave them out of the GX85 or the LX100? Make me wonder whether Panasonic are leaving stuff like this out on purpose or are they incapable of implementing features like this in a small camera from a programming standpoint? I know they are not a Nikon or Canon, but they seem to make a lot of cameras and should have half a clue on what they are doing with software. My wife will use it as a point & shoot mainly so she won't worry about any of these lacking features but it would annoy me if I had to use all the time for video or stills. On the plus side it seems to have a nice image with nice colours in video. Used Natural (0, -5, -5, 0) with FilmConvert with a GH4 profile. I also like the fact that you can use SAF in video and use the shutter button to start recording … very nice for street type shooting that I like to do. Anyway, it is a nicely built cam with tons of great features and a nice image but their approach to ISO needs looking at IMO.

I installed the KS Hack last night and all went well. This morning I got up and tried to get into the menu (pressing ev & OK) but it wouldn't let me for some reason. I know the hack was still operational because Camcorder mode was still on. Any reason this would happen. This morning I took the battery out and reinstalled the software and it looks Ok again. Looking forward to testing the higher bit rate out today
-
Thanks for the explanation. I'll probably try KS's hack first. Would be nice if there were separate threads on this this sub forum dedicated to each of the different hacks with instructions and links in their first posts (including how to donate to the authors). Would make things a lot easier and move things forward faster I reckon ...
-
Thanks for that. I might try this first as the instructions look pretty basic for a person like me Can I ask what bitrate you are using without any issues? Also, I have U3 95MB/s SanDisk Extreme Pro Cards (64Gb and 128GB) ... will these be OK with the high bitrates? Cheers.

Hi. Is this the mod most people are using with the NX1? https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/tree/master/video-bitrate-mods/nx-patch I might try and instal it tonight.
-
Excellent ... looking forward to trying it out. Great news for NX1 owners.
-
I've tried a fair few on the NX1. OSIRIS is nice with Andrew's LOG LUT Also like Film Convert - Arri/Alexa/Rec709 Astia 100 .. next two vids.
-
All done ... thanks again for your work on this !! @vasile BTW ... quoting on this board seems to be broken. I tried to quote Vasile's remark above and instead it quotes my comment 4-5 posts above @Andrew Reid

Hi. Thanks for all your hard work !! I still haven't downloaded the mods but will soon when I work out how to do it I'm really stupid when it comes to stuff like that (scripts and mods and computer stuff !!) but will try. I'd like to PayPal you and Otto some money. Can you point me in the right direction? Is there someone else I should donate too as well? I've kind of lost track of everything

They'll never be able to enter the camera business again. The NX1 was the only decent thing they ever made anyway. All their other stuff (tablets & phones etc) are crap.
-
How does the GX80 stabilisation compare to the NX1 using IOS & DIS at the same time? I've been pretty happy with the NX1, OIS & DIS for hand held.
-
I'd love to see Sony introduce a bigger version of the A7 series of cameras that take the same lenses. More ergonomic, better battery life etc etc. Something around the size of an NX1 or a little bigger. I think this would sell really well. Will be interesting to see what they release.

All entitled to our own opinion.

I think that most everything they did with this camera was for their TV's. Sharpening the image would be to give more of a WOW factor when watching home movies on their Samsung TV's. Being Samsung, I'm amazed that the NX1 is actually as good as it is. Most of what they do is pretty shite or else a sneaky copy of what Apple or some other company has already come up with. They are a shit company and they way they handle their camera business being a total failure is yet more proof. The image does look overly sharp to me but still ... I love the camera.

Have you had success with this? I've tried the Canon LOG with the EOSHD LOG for NX1 footage and never had any luck making it look decent. The Red Gamma profiles seem to work a lot better with the NX1 flat footage IMO. Also, I reckon FC looks better on the NX1 using the Arri Rec 709 profile but not with the EOSHD LUT ... i.e. using just Gamma DR settings at default. Cheers.

Great to hear you have another NX1. Looking forward to hearing your comments on the camera

I agree. Andrew's NX1-to-LOG along with the suggested camera settings are perfect for me. The LUT works really well and makes a great base for grading. I have absolutely no interest in testing other settings any more. The added bonus is also that the suggested in-cam settings are the ones that always looked the most natural to me as well. If I didn't want to us the LOG LUT, I'd shoot with these settings anyway. Can't loose really The LOG LUT makes the NX1 much more enjoyable for me to use. I've used the OSIRIS LUTs a few times with the NX1 LOG LUT and rarely can you ever just apply the LUT over the top and that's it ... there's always some tweaking to do before & after. But that would be the same as applying OSIRIS or any other LUT over the top of LOG footage straight out of a cam. I'm not super experienced, but I've had a BMPCC and a AR7ii before and I find using the LOG LUT on the NX1 far more easier to grade than using the BMPCC's "film" or the A7Rii's SLOG. This has noting to do with how good the other two cameras LOG profiles are, it has more to do with the fact that I'm just not good enough to expose BMD's "film" or the A7Rii's SLOG in a consistent manner and as a result l always end up with lots of shitty looking files with these two cams !! With the NX1 I can just expose normally and then use the LOG LUT afterwards and have something pretty flat and well exposed to grade.

These cams do look pretty nice and I'll probably get the 24-85, but I'd still love to see an update to the LX100. That could be the ultimate compact if done right.
-
Looks OK. I hope the Dual Detect Optical VR works in 4K mode. B&H specs say the 24-85 has a built in ND but I'm sure I read on DPR that the 24-85 doesn't have a built in ND. Has a 40.5mm front thread. Be nice if it has the Nikon Flat profile too. Looks like the sort of camera I'd buy at fist glance http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1234163-REG/nikon_26511_dl24_85_f_1_8_2_8_digital_camera.html

My experience with the NX1 and both "S" lenses is that it's fine in good light but very very poor in indoor or low light situations.
-
I reckon the did it so the user can play the H265 directly into their Samsung TV's
-
Glad the footage is useful. Yeah, that dog is Mattias' dog's cousin in HK I tried correcting the flat footage first and then adding a Arii/Alexa/Rec709 profile over the top from FilmConvert. The EOSHD Log LUT makes the NX1 so much more interesting for me.

Too much time on my hands ... 5 days off in a row for Chinese New Year Wandered around our apartment all day today ... luckily there's always something half interesting to shoot. Should have probably used some background music but I couldn't be arsed. EOSHD LOG conversion LUT. Used the Alex Rec 709 profile on FilmConvert (Astia 100) so corrected the flat footage myself first and then put the Alexa profile on top @ around 30-50% for each clip. Used a bit of blur as well. I don't mind this look for street stuff. All hand-held with DIS and IS activated on the 16-50/2-2.8 ... amazingly stable. I've put 10 clips from today on the Original Camera Files thread a while ago if anyone is interested. It's a 3.3GB DropBox link. All ProRes422 and converted with the EOSHD LogConversion LUT via EditReady.
