@Andrew Reid I think you missed the point of the video. Instead of trying to explain why his test was scientifically wrong you should see the interesting points. For example the fact that changing WB makes people change their mind on what is the best image. The fact that most movies have very strong color shifts. The fact that in one click you get a completely different image. I always got great results with Cine 2/4 on Sony. I think people's debate on color science is overrated. It's more the ergonomics, touch screen and things like that that bother me on Sonys a lot more than the color science.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
wolf33d replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
Seems like a confirmation that the S1 will be a lot more video oriented. I am looking at buying 2 bodies one for photo one for video in the same system to be able to use only the same lenses and one menu and button layout. It seems the only option in 2019 will be Sony A7SIII + RIII and S1 and S1s. Can’t wait to see those on the table. -

EOS R does NOT lack sharpness in 4K - Here's proof
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It's criticized for being the worst camera of the year for video at this price. With unusable rolling shutter and massive joke-like freaking crop together with underwhelming specs particularly in slowmo, it might win the prize at April Fools day but that's it. When you are Canon and you release that crap in 2018 you deserve all critics in the world. The fact it is soft or not does not matter considering the above. Last but not least, its FHD is so soft you might as well ask a blind guy what's on the image, he might "sense" it better than you ? -
X-T3 vs A7III vs EOS R vs Z7 vs Pocket 4K - Video Quality Compared!

Ok you got one point. Yet it still got awful rolling shutter, awful crop, awful slowmo, all that for more money than Z6 and A7. Cinematic or not, a 1.7 crop jelly on screen is unnaceptable in 2018 at this price point. And there is nothing cinematic in this. All things considered the best camera of this Max test factoring all aspects for video is the XT3 I think. Overall great detail, colors, codec, 10 bit, good AF, 4k60p and good 120p. Z6 Will probably be second closely followed by Sony. Canon is so far behind everyone else. Only thing they got is their AF, too bad for them competition catched up on that. Even on ergonomics where they were first they actually go backward with this shitty Touch Bar. -
What kind of joke is this? Another reason I am very happy I left Europe a few years ago for the US. I make more money, everything is more simple and this freaking law does not exist. People don't do strikes every day, and are nicer too. There are many things wrong in the US especially in politics and craziness (guns,...). But on a daily basis in the real world, it's far better than Europe. At least until I get shot . And I have traveled to tons of countries and lived multiple years each on 4 different continents.

You are right. And I also said it’s a great camera. Also expect the Z6 will correct the aliasing due to line skipping. -

This is such a bad argument. First of all Nikon and Canon are supposed to know how to make a camera already. It’s not their first camera at all. Secondly, it’s not about the generation number, it’s about which generation year it is. So if Olympus releases in 2025 a FF camera when everyone is doing 8K60p, because it’s their first generation you expect It to be what, a 2015 competitor ? Non sense. All those company have been doing cameras for years and have access to the same things. So no, there is no reason at all that because they did not have a FF mirrorless before, that it should not match competition. It’s even easier for them because they can analyse easy where Sony failed and won, and can develop the camera accordingly. They can see people yelled at Sony for 1 SD port, so they can just put 2 (well they didn’t). NO EXCUSE, especially for Canon. I agree the Z7 is a great camera I was just disappointed at the test from Max. But the camera in general is great, unlike the EOS R joke. -

This is the video I wanted @Andrew Reid to make. I have to say the Z7 is quite disappointing. I am also disappointed by XT3 120p cause it does not look really better than the Sony. The Canon I fully expected that. But man, what a disaster! This is so embarrassing for Canon. This company should go bankrupt. No one should pay that much for getting such disgusting results. And thanks god he did not do rolling shutter tests! 2.5K for worst rolling shutter, worst 4K, worst 1080p, worst slowmo, and insane crop? Thanks, but no thanks. This company is a joke. -
Definitely buy an FS700. Lab cam size is no issue, no need for IBIS and AF but need good slowmo on external recorder? FS700 hands down

RAW video on the S1? https://www.l-rumors.com/l3-panasonic-s1-and-s1r-camera-might-output-raw-video/#disqus_thread Also read the comments, one seems more interesting that the rumor itself. I can say this as 100% FACT; I know that Atomos is working CLOSELY with Panasonic engineering on the possibility of using HDMI as a data buss for raw sensor data. I can also say that I know a Panasonic pro/Varicam manager that is COMPLETELY against this idea and is aggressively lobbying against this. This is a true fact. Now,...in my "opinion" I believe that this Pro/Varicam manager does not want raw sensor data in a new "S" camera and believes should be reserved for high end camcorders "only". Raw sensor data is certainly technically possible. The biggest problem is the politics INSIDE Panasonic across the different managers. Raw over HDMI is NOT something that all managers want to see in a $3000 camera. It's going to be a "board room" fight. Not a real technical problem. -
Canon EOS R first impressions - INSANE split personality camera
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
“In their interview with the BBC, when asked why Canon were so late behind Sony to the high-end mirrorless market, Canon’s reply is that they “must be the best” and don’t simply jump in with sub-par products.” just see the result... clearly the best ??♂️ -
Likelihood Sony Will Give Us A New Codec Any Time Soon?
wolf33d replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
Very likely. The reason: 4K60P. With the XT3 and upcoming S1, Sony has 0 reason not to give 4K60p for the next APSC and A7SIII. If 4K60P comes (which is very likely see above) then they will need a new codec. I do not see them having 100mbps for that. I am expecting either h.265 to come in or higher bitrates. 10 bit would be nice too. On top of that, as you said, the h.265 and 10 bit was not a thing last year. This year it appeared massively (DJI drones, Panasonic, Fuji,...) and even for Canon and Nikon (10 bit external) which speaks for itself. Sony likes to lead specs. For sure they did not expect all that thus the delay for A7SIII now they have to keep up with those specs or GO HOME. -
A7S II is 3 years old. At that time it was class leading specs. A6300/500 not bad either and was the best APSC. Sure Samsung was an ovni but they are not even in business anymore. Saying that Sony protects Cine line and cripple specs is a statement I cannot agree with. Canon yes, Sony not really. Their specs are always not far from the top of the line. I have no info on the upcoming Sony APSC, but again I am expecting similar XT3 level of specs and actually if this is not the case (like no 4K60p,..) they should not even bother.
-
I do not agree. I might be wrong cause I have 0 info on upcoming Sony, but Sony is the company that has a Cine line that protect it the less. Secondly for colors it is rumored that at least the next A7S III will have Venice color science which is reputed among the best. Thirdly, when shooting in Cine4 when I had the A7III I had no issue with colors. Fourthly, I do not see Sony releasing a XT3 competitor at same price or more (A6500 was already XT3 price) with less spec. And it is safe to imagine it will have IBIS and the A7 battery which is miles ahead of Fuji battery. Again, only speculation, but if I were Sony I would not release this camera if specs at least did not match XT3. Why? They are the guys who gave us all the best specs in the past. Why are you guys pessimistic about Sony specs where they constantly have been ahead of the competition past 5 years? What I am skeptical about is Sony's ability to ever release a camera with proper ergonomics and menus lol because again history shows.
-
F4 ... Maybe wait for Sony's version of XT3 with IBIS see latest rumors. I am waiting 2 weeks for Photo +, if no Sony then I get the fuji and the 16-55 and will use a gimbal and warp stab. Until Pana S1 an A7SIII come out.

Another info: for people wondering about those shutter speed and the look it will create: Can I add Motion Blur before rendering my video ? Yes, SteadXP software allows you to add Motion Blur to your output video. In preview tab advanced section, choose a type of Motion Blur and its intensity, from 1° to 720°. 180° being equivalent to cinematic standard (recommended value). The higher the value, the longer the processing. From a cinematic point of vue, the rotational blur is accurate since the parameters of the virtual camera are taken into account.
-
other info here. They recommend at least 1/400s. Process sounds like a PITA. Also I promise we not all have such a strong accent.
-
You are right, and there is proof. GoPro 7 is doing the same thing SteadXP does, internally in camera (which is the future and I wonder why the camera companies dont do it themselves). And the GoPro does not work well with slow shutter speed. Not so much a problem with FF in my opinion when one knows how high ISO you can go. You are right too. Shaking the camera like crazy is not real use. I think if you use your camera steadily like you would do let's say with a GH5 that has IBIS, you will get insane result with Stead XP. In fact better results than IBIS. The only pain is post processing and why not include a FCPX / Adobe plug in that does everything in one clip for the clips that you select..... Excited to see your review Careful what you say on the French
