Absolutely not. In a few days Panasonic will announce 2 4k60p FF camera. A7S III will have 4K60p too. I would not spend 6K on an 1.5Kg 2 years old camera with 1.3 crop when better lighter and cheaper is coming. AT LEAST wait for the announcements and rent a camera if you need until then.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
wolf33d replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
awesome. Cant wait. Please make the AF good in video... -
This is because of youtube. My GP6 has 0 compression and blocking, image looks great. I did not find it was the case with the 4 or 5. They made a leap forward in IQ with the 6. The 7 is about stab, and having this stab in 4K60p (no stab in 4k60p on the 6 at all) is what will make me get it. Do not forget it is h.265 so more equivalent to 150mbps I do not use my GoPro often but when I do that's the only camera that could work.

No. Smaller sensor are easier to stabilize mechanically, like in the case of GH5 or Sony stabilisation. This is not the case here. This is 100% electronic digital stabilisation. No difference whatsoever with a FF sensor. Don’t give excuses to those companies, cause they got none. The electronic stab with canon is pure joke, and Sony well it’s not digital but does not come close to this either. For your info, the way they do this is using an accelerometer and they know camera movement so they just crop the image and stabilize according to this movement. A company released an expensive device to put on a GoPro that does that and necessitates lots of processing through their software. Here everything is done real time in camera. That’s incredible. By the way the company that released the device did one for dslrs too. Again this kind of stabilisation the sensor doesn’t matter. This could work as well on a medium format camera, doesn’t matter. The reason why it’s not on your 5D is because canon Sony Nikon all of them suck. They won’t put an accelerometer and they won’t code the algorithms. They are too stuck 5y behind. This is the future of stabilisation though. Sensor mechanical stab can’t touch this. Even with a small sensor like GH5. Seriously? Forget Casey’s shit he did not activate the hypersmooth in most of his shots except the ones mountain biking. Watch other videos and H6 vs H7. It truly is remarkable even walking or running. In fact it’s so good it feels more organic than gimbals because there is a little movement.

See, I did not lie. They killed it. When I repeat on this forum that japanese camera manufacturer are not innovative at all this is what I mean. This kind of stuff should not appear on a 400$ consumer camera first but it should on 3000$ cameras.

When Canon gives you 1080P EIS that looks as awful as it gets, GoPro gives you H.265 4K60P with a level of electronic stab never seen before. In fact I would prefer to have this stab in my FF versus Sony/Nikon IBIS, let alone Canon IS. BTW I have the Hero 6, and the stab was very very good but this one is again another league. Well done.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???

Panasonic will release normal priced lenses. So it's not a cons to use this mount. It's not a pros either cause I agree nobody's gonna buy the leica lenses -
That’s an absolute given, don’t even know why do you mention that
-
Did he say that? Woow. On my side I prefer shorter battery life, it allows me to focus on the essential. I prefer the crop, it allows me to easily zoom and I can use my EFS lens when I want to go wide with the super nice 10-18mm. I prefer having Full HD 60p only, easier to edit than 4K60p! And lord knows how I prefer lower DR: it forces you to expose right. Thanks Canon for making my life easier. Thanks for the trip to Hawaii and free cameras too!

I have hard time believing they would risk sell us upscalled 2.7K as 4K. Anyway I have flown the Mavic 2 twice and it's a beast. Great IQ both in photo and video. 0 noise unlike my mavic 1 and mavic air in daylight. DLOG 10 bit Full FOV is fantastic. Biggest disappointment for me at the moment: when using the amazing quick-shots (orbit, spirals, ...) it seems it can only record in normal color mode h.264. What a shame... I never used those modes before but realized they do things better than you can do yourself. For example on a mountain summit, you wan to orbit around the subject standing on the summit. It will orbit a lot better than you doing it manually. But the lack of DLOG and 10 bit in this mode is a shame... Overall amazing drone. IQ is incredible, range and signal quality and battery life are phenomenal. Super stocked.

Get the hell out with your trolling. You have nothing better to do? Seriously...
-
Nothing. When 8K is a thing, I will want that. Specs I said below I will be good to go for 2 years, which is a lot in todays fast pacing tech industry. For example: perfectly happy with my Mavic 2 Pro. I do not need anything else right now. Meets my need. My phone meets my need. My Mac fits my need since the last 3 years. Same with my car. Same with my camera bag, same with my bike, and more. In fact the product that I am most frustrated with is camera. Because they do not keep up with tech, they are far behind everything else. Because the camera industry is owned by Japanese manufacturers that are too deep rooted in the past.

Except my current camera does not have 4K60p 10 bit slowmo. My need is simple, for years I have asked for a FF camera that is as good in stills as in video. With 4K60P because I need to deliver 4K only, and because I want the flexibility to do a little slowmo when I want. With IBIS, because that's better to have it on every single lens. With a good AF for gimbal work Flippy screen and good ergonomics. In a small mirrorless package. The GH5 FF will probably have all that except AF and IBIS The Sony A7SIII will have all that except ergonomics and maybe still quality (if stuck with 12mpx) Any camera today does not meet that. I have been waiting for more than 3 years, but it seems this year will be close (thanks to A7SIII and GH FF) but still not quite there. If only we had GH5 video specs - 4K60p, 10 bit,... + Canon DPAF + D850 equivalent sensor in a Canon EOS R body, wow that would be something. I would pay 4K for that no pbm. So what I do since 3 years is buying a camera, uses it anywhere from 2 weeks - 1 year then sell it and try something different. I have got 5D2, 5D3, GH5, A7R II, A7III, Nikon D5300, D5500, D5600 and more. Last one was A7III, sent it back. As close as it can be from a good hybrid, but with A7S III and Canikon announcement around the corner I preferred to send it back. There is only one manufacturer which fully satisfied my need of having a 1" sensor in a Mavic body (wanted that since Mavic 1 came out) and they are called DJI. The Mavic 2 is exeptionnal. If DJI were doing video and photography cameras, they would easily do what I described above and more. The reason this camera does not exist today is because Old Japanese people are managing those cameras product. Put DJI in the market, they are all done.

LOL. Sorry everyone but I have to correct some pretty nice BS stuff here Crap sensor A7III? What is the 5DIV sensor to you then? A phone-like sensor or what? What about GH5 sensor with abysmal-low DR for stills? Clearly the D850 has the best still sensor for FF right now, that does not mean the A7III is crap in fact it's one of the best in the industry. Source attached. And btw the A7III overall destroys your D850 for video use. DR on xt3 not as good as GH5s.... which test ? Source ? Cause the only test I saw shows the contrary. Lol, it's not like Andrew does not have a camera to shoot with. Was speaking to him.
-
Who said it is 6 months. That's why wait 5 days. Costs nothing. Maybe they get a GH5 FF in 3 months and it's worth the wait. Color science lol... I don't care about that. I can produce great looking colors from A7 which is worst color science on earth according to internet.
-
As for the XT3, well why spend your money 5 days before Panasonic announced the same thing but FF? I don't get it. At least wait 5 days to see what it's like. If there is no 4K60P FF camera for 3000$ (A7S / GH5 FF) then I will get the Fuji, but the H2 will have IBIS and even better stuff. How long after the XT2 the H1 came?

Upgrade to FCPX. My 2014 macbook pro plays and edit perfectly .H265 10 bit 4K files from DJI Mavic.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
wolf33d replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
I am so happy I made you sick! Hope you read all my future baby whines and puke over and over Maybe. But PDAF is good enough like with Sony and Nikon, so Panasonic should at least use that. Their AF is unacceptable and it’s a real shame when you see all the qualities in the GH5. It just missed FF and AF. So close.. but let’s see next week! -
Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
wolf33d replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
Rumor says they will keep DFD tech with no DPAF. Why on earth would they do that? If this camera has high mpx + GH5 video specs like 4K60P and 10 bit, it's going to be an absolute killer. But if they keep their shitty AF well it's going to be the dealbreaker. Dont do that Panasonic, dont be so dumb. -
Give me a 24mpx sensor with 4K60P no crop / FHD slow mo with better quality than A7III and that is an instant buy for me. Rumors suggest Panasonic will still keep DFD on the GH5 FF so fuck them with their 10-y old technology, this pisses me off so much. Other nice to have: Venice color science / 10 bit / RAW / full flip screen. For the body size ergonomics I found the solution. Just get the Sony grip extender and buy a long screw. You can put your favorite tripod mount under it and use the long screw to screw both the mount and grip extension on it. As for changing battery just use USB charging. A7III battery lasts so long it's impressive, and I prefer to bring a power bank anyway.

Panasonic need FF and a proper AF. Sony need to catch up on ergonomics, fully articulated screen. Canon needs to catch up on sensor tech for stills, and no crop and better specs (4k60p...)
-
That’s what old fellas said when AF was invented for photography. Do most pros shoot MF in photography today? No they don’t. Does that mean they can’t handle a camera? No it doesn’t. I said the damn thing can’t focus: I meant by itself. I did not say I cannot do it. But let me assure you that manual focusing your camera while on a gimbal following a guy running on a mountain ridge is a PITA. When you tried DPAF and co for that kind of application there is no turning back. Stop thinking because it works for your application it works for all, and that if it does not work for other people's application it means they can’t handle it.

1st - people not happy with this site should go elsewhere. 2nd - this site produces valuable article on cameras and also a nice exchange place in the forum 3 - andrew gets less invites to event not because he shoots not as good as Dpreview, but because he is critical. So companies don’t want to hear their camera is shit. But they are. Most cameras are shit for various reasons and there is abyssimal margin for improvement, and it’s hard to find à cameras that does most things right. When things are right he says it too. We need critical people especially when all other reviews have their rating scale between 4/5 and 5/5. 4 - I canceled the BM preorder not because of the joker who produced the answer shown in Andrew’s article but because I realized I am not gonna pay for a camera bigger and heavier than a GH5 FF / A7S3 that has a sensor smaller than a nail and can’t focus. Appreciate he said we are clowns nonetheless ?
