If high mirrorless video specs hurt pro cinema range, why does Sony do it?
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
From the link: "Well, my guess is within 9 months Nikon and Canon will release a more “Pro” model of these cameras due to the heat they are getting from these announcements (as they should as it is the customer who is #1 here). I feel we will eventually see IBIS in the Canon, Dual slots and faster AF in the Nikon and more and more features we are looking for." This is the biggest BS I have read this week. Nikon to release a more Pro model within 9 months? Did he see the Z7 price? How more pro?? The Z7 has a Pro price, whether you look at the A7RIII price or D850 to compare. For Canon yes, I agree there is room for a higher price model soon. But with IBIS? So they are releasing IS lenses to give a body with IBIS in 6 months? Yeah, for sure... Then regarding the theory, of course it's never only one reason. Of course protecting the line has something to do with not giving good video features. Guys who say they do their best is BS. So why would they put CLOG in this camera and not the MKIV or 1DX2? Technical impossibility? Purest BS. Then it does not mean some specs are not here because of technical reasons. Maybe with this sensor they could not get FHD120fps. My theory is that it is a combination of the following: - Marketing decisions to protect other cameras or line (50%) - Technical advancement (sensor / processor) because not enough money is put there (20%) - Decisions from people who understand nothing about what a 30Y European customer wants. Understandable when you are a 70yo Japonese with opposite culture. (30%) -
My personal opinion is that buying a R versus a Z is being out of his mind. Want good photo? Get the Nikon with better sensor and as good ergonomics/colors. Want video or both? Well IBIS plus No crop beat canon R anytime. But for me A7S3 / GH5 FF should be better than the Z, at least in video. a shame that Nikon does not release a 4K60P A7SIII equivalent...

Medium format has too many constraints, lenses get too big, and video specs are poor as of now. In the future, we will see. When Fuji makes a sensor with as good DR as D850 sensor for stills (DR mainly) they can call me

Thanks Fuji, great camera, but FF is the real game. Let's see what Panasonic brings.

@mercer fair enough, there is for sure too much bashing/trolling on the web, for camera and everything else, and some people have the hobby of doing that for doing it. I am in the market for a FF mirrorless after I returned the A7III waiting for Nikon, Canon, A7S3 and now Panasonic seing what they have to offer. I am bashing Canon because I am heavily frustrated and disappointed by their way of doing things. I am overly reacting of course who cares it’s a camera... but that’s a forum and I am insulting a brand not someone so that’s fine :). All those discussions might be seen by canon at some point. It’s like voting for your country you know. As an individual you might think it changes nothing to vote, but if everybody does it then ...

After so many FF mirrorless cameras coming, especially A7SIII and Panasonic with great chance of having 10 bit and 4K60p becoming standard, I canceled my preorder for the BM. I would rather trade RAW against FF and good AF.

100% agree with @Andrew Reid article. This camera is a rip off as is Canon. I disagree with people who disagree. It should not remain silent and in 2018 consumers should not allow such a brand to perform like this. Can't believe someone can buy an Eos R. You like stills, buy a Z7 with way better IQ and specs. You want video, get a Nikon, Sony or Panasonic. Canon is far behind in 95% of stuff. They got AF that's all and it's not like Z7 and A7III AF is bad... Stop saying you have Canon lenses you can adapt so an Eos R can be useful. That's how the company got your balls secured, selling you the lens then for 10 years you buy their absolute shit cameras one after the other, like if you were in jail. Just sell those god damn lens and be done with this scam company .... How can one even make a choice based on the fact he has lens, who told you not to sell them. I changed 5 times camera systems in the last couple of years, didn't have any issue with that at all. @mercer you comment is a non sense, we are here to discuss cameras. People spend time shooting do not worry for them. That does not prevent them to speak and debate about cameras here. BTW you have 5630 posts on EOSHD, are you not out into the world with you camera shooting...?

1.75x crop. Lol how could you even care canon? This company is a scam. And they will sell tons.
-
Who said not sharp? As sharp as P4 pro. Image is great.

Good question. As of now I am mostly filming extreme sports and mountain activities (multi day trekking / climbing, paragliding, ...) I am always in action and challenging environment with very poor screen visibility and fast moving people as subject. Video AF if right (like Canon DPAF) is crucial for me in those situations. Now if it is a sport event where you can afford the weight of a nice external screen and so on, I guess you can do a good job at manual focusing. My case is not specific and I see many people either in the same situation either in completely different scenarios. Also, I think a good chunk of camera buyers are basic amateur that want great quality and focus done by itself without having to do anything. Video AF is important for those people too. Vloggers is another group... EDIT: and you are right, other things such as IQ are super important. If the GH5 was the only option I would use it. But A7III has good enough IQ for me for example, yet the FF and better AF make a greater difference for me.

The tamron 28-75mm 2.8 at 1/3rd the weight of the Canon f2 is a much better option, and will probably be a 1/3 of the price too. Using the 5D4 sensor is a joke. definitely a disappointment. Again I think the only people who don’t disappoint at each release are Sony and Panasonic.
-
LOOOOOL. I don’t know why I got some hope for 5 min. no IBIS, 1 UHS1 SD, 1.4kg for the 28-70mm, 480mbps means probably mjpeg. Wow canon well done again! After Nikon copying A7III but with no lens, and canon doing the usual joke, let’s see if Panasonic can do a proper job.

CR1 rumor... no mention of crop. For sure if it has 10 bit external, no crop, IBIS, CLOG and DPAF then it will be a better buy than the Z6 for video. For stills I think the Z6 Sony sensor will be way better as usual. Then again that's a lot of if. And even then the A7SIII / GH5 FF will probably kill it. FHD 60p and not 120p is such a shame though...
-
The fact that some lenses have IS is very poor news for potential IBIS.
-
Lol. Wait for crop, codec and video specs before yelling victory. For video unfortunately the A7SIII will be much better with 4K60p but we will all be sad not to have DPAF and this canon body and colors. It’s always the same story. It never changes. Want spec go to Sony, want ergonomics usability and stuff go to Canikon. Want both wait, and keep waiting.

See perfect answer from jonpais below exactly. @webrunner5 I really don't see how you can possibly miss my message but somehow you did :). I was answering a comment saying that 4K60p will be external only. I answered this seems unlikely to me as that would mean A7SIII internal specs would be too similar to A7III. I did not say I believe it will have 10 bit internal, and honestly I do not know. What I think is that many things are changing (canikon coming, Panasonic joining the party) and that may change last min specs that are firmware modifiable for people like Sony who know they have to have the best specs to sell (cause Canon and stuff got the name + ergonomics and so on). This confirms to me that without 4K60P internal the A7S III is going to have a hard time, especially for 1000$ more than an A7III.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
wolf33d replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
Such a good time. Bring them on. A7S III, GH5 FF, Canon R ... First one to give me 4K60p + IBIS + good video AF + good codec and/or 10bit + at least 24mpx WINS my money -
No increase on A7RIII from the II. Of course it is in body. The A7S3 has no reason to exist if it is 4k30p like a7III yet cost 1000 more...
-
Not normal. Try Cine 2 with Pro color in camera without any other profile. Should not be noisy at all at 1600 ISO. Verify you are in 4K 100mbps

Can someone confirm if 10 bit is only available in HQ crop mode or not ?!? Cant believe after a week we still cant find a clear answer. Returned mine today. Also for people speaking about sharpness forget that. First of all turning +1 sharpness makes it sharp enough, secondly people did not understand how to focus the mavic 2 properly like it was the case on the 1st one. On the 1st one you had to autofocus far away then switch to MF, in this one switch to MF, do not go to infinity but touch the infinity symbol instead, it will put the drone in hyperfocal. Once people understand this and turn sharpness to +1 we sont hear anymore the Mavic 2 is not sharp. Now I would like to find answer to my question, also have a better view of the quality difference between HQ and FOV... For info the return process with DJI was a nightmare (box unopened) i will never order with them again. I ordered an other one from Adorama because I have a crash insurance with them. Adorama is backordered from day one though that sucks when you know I had the drone in hand.... But insurance is worth it (and I have it free.)

In this case they will call it A9S. Either it is an A7S III and they have to be in the ballpark, or they change the name. If it is 4500$ like the A9 screw it. No way I pay this to have the A7SIII 6 months later with all same features for 3000 (just like the A7III vs A9).... But I think the A9 was a complete disaster for Sony in sales, so hopefully they do not repeat. 3000$, like the A7SII sounds fair. 1000$ more than A7III, yet good enough features to justify. 4500 is not reasonable

I didnt lie when I said "we all know this site is BS" lol ...

WOOOW https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr3-a7siii-to-be-announced-at-ibc-2018-on-sept-14/ We all know this site is BS but please make this real. "Very likely: – New 5.6 million dot EVF – 4k60p – 10 bit 4:2:2 external (not internal!) – new color science – dual SD card slot, Z-battery, chunkier grip Unconfirmed: – New 24 Megapixel Quad pixel sensor" Again, WOOW. 24mpx 4K60P with FS5II color science +5.6M dot EVF + all A7RIII improvements (including AF, battery...) + 10 bit external (well nice to have but not for me this one) is a dream come true.... The 24mpx means I do not need a A7III for stills, and it means 1.5x crop video mode with 1 button. MAKE THIS REAL. It will be 3000/3200 like the previous one for sure but fuck that, happily paying 1K more for an A7III with better color, 4K60P, 10bit external, and better EVF. Hopefully 240fps FHD too... Come on Sony do not disappoint.
