  1. Yes my iPhone has a 28mm. Because it's not too wide to prevent portraits and so on (unlike 24mm) and not to narrow to prevent landscape (unlike 35mm). Samyang 35mm for Sony has noisy AF and less good tracking than native lens. Also it is 2.8 and not 2 and it is a bit less versatile than 28mm. D5500 main video camera? It has no video AF and no 4K, and not FH120p. 3 criteria for me (but especially the AF as I will do gimbal tracking shots and so on). So it's a no go. What could work would be to have the A7III as the only body with a RX100 on the side for when the A7III is used for timelapses. The thing is, the light is best early morning and late afternoon. I will film 80% of my videos WHEN a body will be used for timelapse. What a shame to have an RX100 to film 80% of the time while the A7III shoots timelapse. Plus I already have the Nikon in my hands. So back to the main topic, I am pulling the trigger on the A7III. I am just wondering if I take the 28mm only, the 28mm + the 28-70 Kit (that is light and can serve as a 70mm for the trip. I do not buy this lens it comes with the body anyway as body only isnt in stock for weeks). Or I am thinking again at the new tamron 28-75mm F2.8 It is the same as the 2 lens option with constant 2.8 aperture and weight the same overall weight. The 2 reasons I am hesitating not to take the tamron: non native lens so concern with video AF (as seen on youtube reviews) and weights still 2.5x more than the 28mm which isnt good for the gimbal.
  2. Instant buy from me with those specs. Hopefully It's available right on the 18 and not with a 1 month wait line..
  3. Ok so thanks for the answers. I specifically did not give my scenario to see what people use in THEIR situations. Now let me give you the context of my first post: In the next few weeks, I will do multiple shootings in nature with day hikes (don't care about the weight here) and one 5-day trek in the Grand Teton and one similar Trek in the Dolomites in Italy. In Those 2 treks, I will do dozens of miles with thousands and thousands of ft of elevation gain at altitude above 10 000 ft. I want to be able to shoot timelapses at each sunrise and sunsets and film at the same time so I need 2 cameras. I have a D5500 with a 10-20 Nikon that weights literally nothing (much lighter than a Sony A6300 + sony 10-18mm) and gives the best dynamic range in the APSC words, in fact better than a Canon 5D4. So this part is already solved. Now for filming, I will mainly do action shots (climbing, trail running, hiking,...) while on the trek. I need the best image quality + lightest weight. I need to be able to get thin DoF and lowlight. I obviously need a fantastic AF for the actions shot (I had the GH5 before and it sucks AF) so the only camera I can think of is A7III. Already decided on that. DoF and lowlight excludes 24-70 F4 and and because I need a light setup to put on a small gimbal, 24-70mm 2.8 is heavy and cannot balance with the small Crane. Tamron 28-75 is a possibility but it seems first AF review in video sucks. Because I will do gimbal shots I need something wide. For all reasons above I tought the 28mm is the best solution. Also I shot a travel video with A7R II, gimbal. 28mm and 55mm in Cuba and used the 28mm 80% of the time because I could use the crop mode to have a 45mm equivalent. I also realized I hate changing lens while traveling or hiking. In the best scenario, I would have a 24-70 GM 2.8 attached permanently to 1 body for filming any subject without the gimbal. and one body with a 24mm or similar for gimbal shots. + a 70-200 for wildlife. I won't bring 3 cameras and 4 lenses. Another solution is to take the 28mm F/2 and to get the A7III with the 200$ kit shit lens 28-70mm to use at 70mm for occasional distance mountain shots. I imagine the lens to be super light. What do you think? Here is the cuba video I shot with mostly the 28mm (and the picture illustration below was done with 28mm and cropped in post): See my post above AF is shit compared to the 28mm Sony, in video Lol. 2 bodies, 2 primes and 3 zooms. Pretty ideal for sure. Try following me in the above described trek with 30+lbs of food water and gear + a tripod + all your bodies and lenses. For day hikes or travel I would do the same (well 5 lenses is still too much for me but...) and in fact I am 27 and traveled to over 35 countries and lived on 4 continents so I know about it. This scenario is completely different though. See my post above AF is shit compared to the 28mm Sony, in video Lol. 2 bodies, 2 primes and 3 zooms. Pretty ideal for sure. Something for the occasional wildlife and far mountains and waterfalls.
  4. With IBIS at least there is IBIS. Better than nothing. Also one can use a gimbal which works 10 times better than any IBIS. 4K60p what are you gonna use to replace it? Twixtor ..? lol Same for a good AF. See message above. 4K60P and good AF is very hard to replace. 10 bit... Well yes gives you a little more margin to grade than 8 bit. Not saying I would not want 10 bit, would be great, just that for me a good AF is more important. It is for Sony also a question of marketing. I think we have more chance to se 4K60p because it's a "must" marketing wize VS the GH5 but 10bit is seen as less important for the masses.
  5. If you were doing a roadtrip somewhere with a Sony A7III planning to shoot of video of nature, people ... only one lens with you for a light kit, what would it be? For me: 28mm F2 because: - Zoom lens do not work. One would say a 24-70, but a f2.8 would be too heavy and a F4 not good for low light and DoF - 35mm is not wide enough for nature stuff and gimbal use - 24mm is too wide for people/portrait - The iPhone has a 28mm lens. When you think about it, you cover everything with it from landscapes to portraits. - On the Sony, you can use crop mode and transform it into a 45mm, very convenient - For the jokers on some forums that say the 28mm is not sharp versus the Batis 25mm or other lenses, check a portrait a took with it wide open and tell me about sharpness: https://500px.com/photo/135582633/no-country-for-old-men-by-loup-fsr?ctx_page=1&from=user&user_id=860266 What about you?
  6. I just got a call from Black Magic Executive Vice President, he is taking over the company after the CEO killed himself, a few minutes after reading my poll on EOSH. Joke aside, well done BM for missing the mark like Panasonic did with the GH5. Offering all features needed but a very important one...
  7. - Panasonic did it, Sony can. No technological barrier here. Not saying it is easy but they can - You totally missed my point with the A9. I never compared the A9 video features (which shoots 4K unlike what you say by the way) with the A7III. I was comparing photo. The point is that Sony did not hesitate to release the A7III which is almost an A9 for much less, so they wont hesitate to release something with 4k60p even if they have a 5000$ camera that does not. - If Sony releases a A7S III tomorrow with 4K30p, at 3000$, nobody will buy it. Nobody wants a 12mpx piece of crap when they get better (A7III) for 1000$ less. Plus the competition (GH5) does 4K60p for a year already. I would not bet money, but I am 80% sure the A7S III will have 4K60p. Simply makes no sense otherwise. Sony knows it and that's probably the reason why you do not see one in store yet (along with the fact the A7III is sold out so they are not in rush)
  8. Quite some hope actually. You know, the FS5 is not in the same market as the A7. It has millions things (pro camera features) that the A7 does not have and it has very advanced external recording capabilities. Therefore it is totally possible that Sony will release a A7S with 4K60P even if FS5 does not have it because it has many other things that the former does not have. It would not be the first time something like this happens. And look at the A9. 4500$ and a few months after you get a A7III which has better IQ (dynamic range) and 95% of A9 functions for 2500$ less. What was the hope of that? Well the A9 has 1-2 pro features (burst shooting..) on top of A7III. So here you go my friend. Quite some hope.
  9. Thanksfully I am French. But the video is BS. The guy himself says he has absolutely no clue what Sony is preparing as it so well kept secret in Japan
  10. The DJI Mavic Pro II will be announced on July 18th. The rumored specs so far are bigger sensor (1/1.7 or 1 inch), 4K60p and 360 avoidance sensors. I am very very excited by this as since DJI released the P4 Pro I asked over and over for a Mavic form factor drone with this 4K60p 1"sensor camera. Recently, they bumped the P4 Pro to 1", the Inspire 2 to APSC from M43. So we could see in the future the Mavic Pro 2 with 1" sensor, the P5 with M43 and the Inspire 2 with APSC. I am ready to pull the trigger on my side. What about you and what are your expectations?
  11. The thing is Sony is not releasing a camera for you
  12. You thought wrong. Youtube tests show it is atrocious. Not so much. For me, the C200 weight and size make it a no go even at 1000$ for what I do. If BM 4K had C200 AF I would get it over any day. Depends on your use. The results of the poll are interesting. Half of the people would. And when you consider that most of the people who said no is because they just use manual focus, this poll shows how much important AF is for people in video and that they are ready to pay for it. This is why so many vloggers pay 6K for the 1DXII, for Full Frame 4K60P with good AF. This is why people like Casey Neistat prefer shitty 1080p quality over amazing GH5 quality. Because AF in video becomes that much useful and important. How many manual focus stills camera sell this day VS AF stills camera? When you consider manual focusing in video is more difficult than in photo, it's not hard to see why manual focusing cameras are dead. Expect 90% of the people who said "no" to this poll to use AF in all their video in 2 years from now.
  13. Yes but they saw with the first A9 that few people were ready to throw 4.5K whereas the A7R/S line at 3K is much more reasonable. Let's see, by fall we will have it.
  14. I agree, but it makes no sense to release an A7 mark IV now with video features that would piss off everybody. I agree that the low res sensor on A7S make little sense now but the video centric make sense so they should either release an A7S III with advanced video, or call it A7F for film.. I don't care call it Joe Burn if they want I just want a 4K60P little camera with good AF :).
  15. Only if you intend to buy the new Pocket: If BM were to release the Pocket 4K at twice the price but with Canon great DPAF, would you get it instead? I would. In 2018 that feature is that much important for me.
  16. Not an excuse to provide a 2010 AF. Exactly. Not about ISO. I agree, I am 100% fine with a7iii iso. But about video capabilities. 4K60p and other video features (10bit, ...) that's the need. Don't forget the a7s line has 2 purpose : ISO and Video.
  17. 1- @kye Of course there will be an A7S III 2- I agree with @newfoundmass. I think the issue is technology at this point. Just lookt at the FS5 II and yet it has a smaller sensor. But I am sure it will at least have 4K60p otherwise there is not point as it would be an A7III in worst (less mpx). 3- All things considered, it is safe to assume that the A7S III will be an A7 III with lower res sensor and 4K60P internal. The question remains on the bonuses: 10bit, mpx count, ... 4- @zerocool22 Why? There is no FF camera on the market with 4K60p and a good AF today except the 1DX which cost 2 arms, weight a truck and has poor codecs. The new Black Magic will give you the absolute best image under 4000$ for sure with 4K60p RAW. But at what cost? At the cost of small sensor size (acceptable) and no AF which for me is in the absolute must have feature list for any new video camera. After trying the A7R III on a gimbal I cannot imagine using anymore piece of shit AF like GH5 and so on as a main camera. Still I ordered the BM day one because as I said the image will be superb but for me it cannot be my main camera. Depends on what you film of course!
  18. Where the hell is this camera??? GH5 is already old. BM 4K is coming. A7III is back in stock. What are they waiting? The only mirrorless/dslr 4K60p camera on the market with a good video AF is the 1DXII and it's expensive, big heavy as hell and boring. Sony, I am waiting a 4K60p A7S with 18mpx sensor (to allow film in crop mode and decent stills) and a7iii AF. 10 bit, FS5mk2 color science and H.265 would be nice. Gimme ProRes Raw and 240fps FHD and i'll pay 5K.Yep won't happen I know.
  19. Good. As I said I did not purchase it yet so this was a pre-comment. I am going to buy it when I get my new A7S III or if the BM 4K ships someday. As I said earlier I do not want to spend time with audio but look forward to have simple ways to improve it quickly with this type of presets. Looking forward to it.
  20. Well personally I like having this option. Could not care less about spending tons of time on audio or hire someone, but as an amateur I care about improving easily audio of my videos. The thing I do not like is that in the video presentation even you andrew you don’t know which preset to use and the audio engineers corrects you and says no for this scene we should use this and this preset. Makes is counter productive as it’s supposed to be easy to use. in the description you say you have to try and explore different preset. I am not gonna spend my time trying the thousands of possible combinations. So my main comment is please include a PDF that lists the best standard combination of presets for sets scenes and add a good description of each preset. For example say for street scene best combination is “noise reduction + xx + xx”. And as I said include a list that details what each presets do. No this might be included (did not purchase yet) but with you description I am under the impression that it is not the case and that one has to play with all presets at each scene which is defeating the purpose of a easy/quick fix for me. Once something like this (probably 1h work for your sound engineer to list those) is done, Ill buy the package.

    DJI Ronin S

THIS. And TBH the first video we see of the Ronin S shows more jitters than the Crane / Moza ones. Personally I just ordered a Crane plus, got a brand new for 399 instead of 569$. 300$ less than DJI and twice lighter ....
  22. No 4K60p, no mic in, no better frame rates, worst aperture. I hope the A7S III does not disappoint like that.

    DJI Ronin S

4.1 pounds VS 2.4 for the Moza Air VS 2 lbs for the Aircross. Sorry DJI but that's a NO GO.
  24. Damn, what the hell Tamron... releasing a lens for a camera line (A7S, ....) that has a good focus on video and making it shit for video ...
