We should see canon cameras in museums, not stores.

You guys made me laugh hard. You are the same people who said years ago that FHD was completely enough and that 4K was useless, when we were telling you it is not about the people having 4K TV to watch your 4K movie, but about the cropping, stabilisation, noise, resampling, and so on that allows you also to have a lot nicer FHD image. Soon the same will be true for 8K to the 4K content we will deliver. You are the same people that said the 12mpx of the D700 were absolutely plenty enough for photography, that more was absolutely useless unless you print on a wall, where I am using 24-42mpx sensors all the time and benefit all day from their cropping capabilities, better noise, better details even seen on my 15" laptop. Anyway, just like 90% of the people on earth, you are reluctant to change and with people like you we would still be using nokia keyboard phones. Thanks god the 10% do exist. Can't wait for 8K 1000FPS 14 bit 400mbps x.268 to arrive in my hands! Stay with your 480p cameras! No insult in my message, take it with humor

Sony A99 II as Panasonic GH5 rival - thoughts and shooting experience
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@Andrew Reid thanks for The review. Extremely interesting and I did not imagine some aspects (like that good 1080p). Very good points on some aspects like the cheap lens VS e-mount. Speaking of which, what about the Sigma Art lenses that you mention for AF? Does it give "canon DPAF" like performance like the Sony SSM one or not? Considering the new amazing sigma lens in the market (135mm 1.8, 14mm 1.8 ...) that could be amazing. Ar the end of the day, this A99 shows that the 5D/6D could have been great with proper specs, thanks to their ergonomics, lens system with cheap used nice lenses, DPAF and so on. Many people say DSLR suck vs Mirorless for video but I do not agree. They suck because people like Canon cripple them. A good specced DSLR could be amazing in video. (Great established lens mount and cheap, great big body that sets a good balance between a huge camera and a tiny mirorless, good battery life and heat management possibility....) -
Canon 6D Mark II lacks 4K video - What were they thinking?!
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The worst in all this, is that they will announce in a couple of months a FF mirorless, it won't be any better for video, and that will be even more a shame. Sad. -
@Andrew Reid Confirmed, no 4K for 6D, seems that you were wrong. http://www.canonrumors.com/first-images-more-specifications-for-the-canon-eos-6d-mark-ii-leak/
-
Well, rumor now updated to CR3 rating. 1080P it looks. Let's see in 2 weeks.
-
@Andrew Reid the end of your article made me smile because Canon Rumors just announced that 6DII that will be soon announced (2 weeks) won't have 4K. Another joke from Canon, yes I know. Hopefully though Canon Rumors are wrong, but even if they are, it's not gonna have a better codec and 4K than 5D4. End of the year or early 2018 Canon will release a FF mirorless but i am afraid this doesn't change their strategy regarding video. Such a shame, if we have Canon do an A7RII real competitor with same specs, XC15 codec, DPAF and canon lenses, with 5D4 still quality. Many of us would not look back and invest in canon lenses myself included...
-
Good Canon, now why dont you stop being an asshole and release a FF mirrorless camera with that king of video spec, even without RAW? Damn.
-
@Emanuel is gonna tell you this is amazing, but I am telling you it's shit and useless
-
I rather have Karma size than Phantom 4 size.

I returned the GH5 cause I Was in the 30 day return window. Won't hesitate to purchase again if AF magically becomes good. But a little bird tells me that I have better chance waiting for the A7SIII. At the moment my only projects are my travels anyway. Don't need something right now. In the future I will do a round the world trip so thats another story. Spoke to a DJI VP the other day, told him why on earth would they not make a drone (wether a Phantom or Mavic who cares) with the Mavic form factor but with the Phantom 4 Pro 1inch sensor camera. I said even if the drone is twice as big as the Mavic, just the same form factor is what I want. Would buy in a heartbeat. He said they are not developing that but would do if demand was here. Am I the only one thinking the Phantom form factor makes no sense vs the Mavic?
-
Wow wow wow You guys are really amazing. I do not know where to start but I will say this: to @Emanuel I do not know why you keep attacking me, and start now by judging me. You tell me I take too quick conclusions on gear, yet you judge me personally without knowing me at all. Funny isn't it? to @jonpais well, I am not sure you realize what being in the backcountry under 120mph winds, rain, hiking 15 miles a day for multiple consecutive days mean. It means that I reduce my weight as I can (and have those cheap super light 12-32mm was a choice of mine in this regard) It also means I do not have the time to put a ND on when the light requires it, then remove it - under the rain - when the light changed, and so on and so on. You have to think different than a normal shooting situation. I am just an amateur doing is 3rd travel video, going to Patagonia to enjoy trekking. I try to have the shooting experience the most automatic and non intrusive possible. This was not a professional shooting. I did not go there for the movie but for me and my girlfriend. So I do not care about your ND filters. I cared about enjoying and bringing then back a memory taking form with this movie Now if you have a look at my Cuba video, conditions were better and easier and I had more time to shoot manual (including focus) as you can see below. I was just sharing the video as this is a GH5 thread. And giving my thoughts about the camera. I think that should be the last time I share something here if it is either to get personal attacks, either to try to say I am dumb not to be able to carry a 1 ounce ND filter. I really do not get your points. I received many constructive comments from friends (critics about some of the transitions being too repetitive for example). Yours were not. And the slowmo stuff VS filming in high res is a personal choice. For high res, I take photography (see my gallery here: http://bit.ly/2rMLPRb let me know if you have constructive comments) My previous video (Cuba) should be more to your linking in term of ND filter, resolution and shits

Seen all of this. I replied to the Mavic thread. I am now using +1 sharpness and neat video As for the GH5 update I do not believe they can do miracles with contrast based AF, pardon me if I am wrong 480p? Are you sur you did not mean 144p...? Don't forget it is slow mo only 120 and + fps. Don't forget the shitty lens, and YouTube. Otherwise I don't know what to say. No way I would bring a 12mm only. I needed lightest weight PLUS zoom versatility. Your comment for AF and landscapes is not relevant, I am shooting a person in a landscape, not just a landscape. And please watch my Cuba video on my YouTube channel. It looks a lot better and it was shot with A7RII and also you will see why I need the focus.
-
Lol. True. 2 points though: I returned the GH5. It was fine for this video (using slow lenses in bright light with no ND, so super small apertures therefore no focus pbm) but with proper lenses, the AF is just a deal breaker FOR ME. As you can see in the video I am a gimbal guy and I hate to have to focus all the time in action. For someone who does not care about AF, I have to say the camera is really great and hard to beat that many features at the price point Mavic: needed the lightest stuff for week long treks. IQ is awful though. I would love a Phantom 4 Pro with the 1in sensor in the Mavic form factor (even if bigger) . This trip needed the lightest stuff (thus the shitty lenses, and the Mavic). For normal people not hiking 7 days in the backcountry I recommend the Phantom 4 Pro (I admit the newer Pro version is a lot better than a Karma). I am not getting any new camera yet. Just cant find a proper one. Hated lots of things on the A7R2 (some of them addressed by A9) and the GH5 would be all I need for video (still need a different camera for photo) if it had a proper focus in video, at least a6500 level. Well I will be soon doing a trip around the world so manufacturers better hurry up. @mercer just saw your message, I think you have my thoughts in this message. Overall love the ergonomics, love the orientable screen, love the specs (even though I shot the trip by choice in slowmo only) love the IBIS - some shots you see are not on gimbal and I bet you can't say which - but again hated the AF after some tests at home so returned it.

Canon C200 and Panasonic rival camera to fight it out at CineGear Expo
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I dont care about those bulky stuff. I want a mirrorless with proper codec, IBIS, DPAF. Panasonic missed everything for me with the GH5 and lack of proper AF. A7SIII, if getting all advancement from A9 (not sure, as I am afraid they will make us pay 4500$ for an A9s for that) including the good AF could be nice. Coupled with an A7RIII for landscapes. But Sony always have it wrong. New Canon FF mirrorless is for 2018. We can hope that by then they give proper video specs to their camera. After all here on EOSHD, I launched a topic 1-2year ago saying for sure 5D4 will have 4K. Everybody laughed at me saying this would not happen. So by 2018, Maybe we have a proper specced FF mirrorless from Canon for video. Still waiting for Nikon...... -
My video of Patagonia with the GH5

Keep sharpening at +1. It sounds ridiculous but in fact, DJI is absolutely ridiculous. Sharpening 0 and lower they apply a huge NR which destroys all details in shadows with a pastel effect. Killed many of my shots. +1 however in Sharpening is too sharp and brings a lot of noise. Therefore applying Neat video removes the noise and keeps the details and you get the best image. I recommend also the new D-LOG, or D-Cinelike.

NEW Pilotfly one-handed gimbal that lets you see the rear screen !
wolf33d replied to Stefan Antonescu's topic in Cameras
I had the Pilotfly and the Crane. Crane is actually much smoother. The city video is done by rollerblading this is why it is so smooth. I am not paying more than Crane for less smoothness. No way... good idea for the 45 angle though -

Time to dump Adobe. First impressions of Resolve 14 and EditReady 2.0
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Nothing can beat FCPX for me. So easy and fast to do what I want. Time remapping is the best of any software and I use time remapping all the time. Who cares about Native lut support when you just need Color Finale the best grading tool ever with way better integration of LUT management than Premiere native shit. I am not saying Resolve is shit. I used FCPX then switched to Premiere for the After effects integration. Switched back recently to FCPX and it's just that much better. Tried the last year Resolve for a project. It did not work for me -
the AF is absolutely insane in video. look at 1:05 and the sprinting girl towards the camera. Best tracking I have ever seen
-
Why dont you use FCPX? Was on FCPX, then on Adobe and switched back after a while. Couldn't be happier.

A7SIII to be announced in June after preorders for A9 at shipped. Doubtful that they announce something big tomorrow

The most funny thing in all of this, is that I am pretty much the only EOSHD member who has always been like "this Ebrahim is a pure joke. Anything coming out of his mouth is worst shit than what comes from my ass". Took you 3 members to be ripped off by the guy to realize, and even then, many EOSHD members where like it must be someone who hacked his account and couldn't believe this guy was full of shit ? The irony of his comment is absolutely hilarious though ? Made my day
