The new Sony is coming and is going to rock 20mpx dual sd touchscreen and good AF Give me 4K60p and FHD 240fps and bye bye GH5 for me
-
Last 2 reviews from iPhonedo and Newshooter say the AF is unusable, with plenty of exemples in multiple situations (unlike a few eoshd forum folks who tried to show otherwise in their poor test trying to convince themselves their 2000$ camera focus well). They tried all the AF settings too. Just received mine and first tries are quite bad. Will use it for my trip anyway and return it if AF really suck that much and get the next Sony. I prefer to have more work for colors in post, that I can fix, than the shitiest AF that I can't fix no matter what.

Hilarious. Btw, really funny because I watched the above Casey video the other day on my 1080p projector and I was like wow this is fucking sharp. For sometime now he used the A7sII and made the official switch. But then I saw it was a DSLR in the reflections so I was like "is he back to 80D? Cannot be that sharp. Must be the 5D4, but it looks small". I did not think further. So here it is a GH5. Tack sharp. For sure a nice premium blogging camera. Just the the AF misses the mark.

Compared to D7200: less mpx less DR SD card still does not support UHS-IImedia (like the D7200) re-positioned camera strap lugs still no Focus Peaking support in Live View no separate AF joystick (like the D500) $50 increase in list price (USD $1,250 vs $1,200) but twice the price of D7200 grey market single SD slot (compared to the D7200 twin SD slot) lower resolution for the rear screen (922k vs 1.2M dot LCD) what a joke lower number of shots per battery charge (950 vs 1110) no NFC feature (which the D7200 had) anyone spending more money to get less than D7200 is out of his mind.

What a joke again from Nikon. We were used to have 0 upgrade on their new camera (Snap bridge?) But this was nothing. Time has come for upgrade being a downgrade: -1 slot instead of 2. - shorter battery life -D500 sensor meaning less mpx and a lot less Dynamic Range. Don't look at Dxo, they are just numbers. Look at Dpreview DR studio tool where you can actually see a real image and push the shadows. What a huge difference between d7200 and d500. D500 is a great body for many reasons but not for DR. It was not aimed at landscape anyway. I won't even speak about the shitty video mode with big crop and poor specs, far behind Sony or Panasonic. This is scaring me a lot for the D820. Having this as an upgrade? How can people accept it and even think to buy this D7500 is beyond me. Nikon and Canon are 2 ridiculous companies taking their customers for granted, releasing the same shit year after year for the past years. I wish them to continue the same way and die in silence when others (Fuji, Panasonic, Sony) who dare to innovate may rise.

"This weeks GH5 autofocus test from Max Yuryev created a huge controversy on the web when he claimed the GH5 autofocus sucks. UPDATE: Max and Joseph had a joint conversation with some very interesting insights about how the GH5 works. I embedded the video on top of this post and I want to quickly thank both for the very constructive way they sorted out this! The most interesting info for me comes at the end of the video. it seems like that when the Panasonic Gh5 shoots at 4K internally the autofocus is no more working at it’s best. And Max guess is that the processing power isn’t simply enough." ha-ha-ha

The top comments on YouTube say it all: "I'm sorry. Love your stuff man but this is plain not good. Anyone who has shot with an A6300/A6500 or dual pixel Canon will know that this is bad. I don't care what setting you have it at...it's not as good as the competition. Plus, in order to have a shot at getting AF on the GH5, you have to test for 30 minutes at all settings while those other cameras just pull it off. It's funny, I watch the people who say "successful AF if you get the settings right" and watch the videos and I still think it sucks compared to the competition. You have to spend 20min testing to get it to the "maybe acceptable" range and that's horrible. The best setting on the GH5 has been worse than any Sony or Canon camera right now. Point to point is awesome but continuous is horrible. I love my GH5 but even the best continuous AF test doesn't come anywhere close to my Sony & Canon cameras. Don't buy this camera for continuous AF. Thankfully, there are about 1,000 other reasons to buy it. Again, really appreciate your videos" I find it funny that because people buy the camera they need to defend it to convince themselves they did good spending 2K. Let's face it, the AF of GH5 is far from competition and this is not acceptable. Now this camera has a lot of amazing stuff and I am getting it (give it a chance) but let's be honest about the cons.

I clearly stated the 12:50 mark in my initial message to which you reacted, not the 18:00. Maybe his GH5 is defective maybe not, however you did not replicate his face test which interest me a LOT more than the car test. Anyway I am receiving my GH5 soon and will be able to check that by myself.
-
What are you talking about? There is no car in his video, he his filming his face moving forward and away from the camera, so this has nothing to do with your video of the car. Again, I am talking about this video from 12:50. No car, just filming his face. And we can see the AF is awful. Since then he posted a comparison of his face tracking with the A6500 and as you can see it does a 10000000 times better job. Now the fact that you say focus tracking does not work, you must have never used a Canon DPAF enabled camera, or the A6500, or do not know how to use them properly.
-
Are you speaking about the video of focusing in the street on the car, then on something else then on the car again? If yes this is totally different than the focus tracking of his face. If not which video please?

Gh5 AF is terrible look from 12:50

Apple talk dramatic 2018 Mac Pro update amidst multiple controversies
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
So you say that "because you are not frustrated with a current environment, why should you look elsewhere" and you tell my I am narrow minded? This is quite funny. With your thinking, you never move outside of your confort zone, never try something new, never evolve basically. I have the contrary thinking: always get out of my confort zone, and being not frustrated with something would never be a reason for me not to look elsewhere. I have lived and worked multiple years in 5 countries on 4 different continents, explored 40+ countries, explored all religions and most cultured and I have the same approach with what brings us here (tech and video): I have been in pocession of cameras from most camera manufacturers out there, used FCPX for months, Premiere Pro, and Resolve... I always give a try to what surrounds me. Exemples could go on but if anything you are probably a lot more narrow minded that I am, but thanks for the judgment and be happy on Winshit -
Apple talk dramatic 2018 Mac Pro update amidst multiple controversies

You just do it wrong. I was using windows only before. I remember when using a Mac at a friend place each time I would think what a shitty ergonomic it was. One they I made the step for some reasons and once used to the system, impossible to go back. You don't like Mac OS cause you are too used about bulshit windows reflexes and using the computer of someone else. Get yourself a new Mac, configure it to your taste, take the time to learn the logic of the system, and never go back. Using your girlfriend thing while having no clue how to properly use it can only bring frustration. A side funny note: 5 family members, 2 friends and my girlfriend are 8 people who only have ever used windows. I spent years being the "it guy" who would always be there to trouble shoot there bugs and problems. Since 1-2 years every one of them is now on Mac only. It was a big headache for each of them for the first 2 weeks of having a new machine and me explaining but since then I never ever had anymore to take my phone and troubleshoot anything. Windows is a pure pain in the ass at work on my PC and my coworkers PCs. Mac just works, and does thing well. Before any one comes in the debate and tell me a Pc is better, he needs to own both. I have been for years on tons of different PC, currently owning one. And I have got Macs for the past 7 years too. So I can properly compare and not just say I was frustrated testing my GF computer. -
Apple talk dramatic 2018 Mac Pro update amidst multiple controversies
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Interesting. I use mac at home and PC at work. I can't believe the number of people still using PCs these days. The Mac OS is so much better, the integration with the hardware is in another league, the global experience (speed, bugs, viruses..) is a million time better. I would not get a PC even if it was the same specs for 10 times less money. The fact is when you want to buy a real equivalent pc (for exemple a PC that copies the MacBook Air, same aluminium, same battery life of 15h, ...) it's the same price yet the value goes down a lot more. What a joke.... FYI I have a MacBook Pro at home with latest specs, same at work in a PC. Again, same specs but such a different experience. Apple clearly did a mistake with the Mac Pro which did not answer real need of pros (but answered their dream of having everything small and thin and bla-bla-bla) so it is good to hear they realize their mistake and correct it. -

ML does not care about people buying C700 No, it's because 1DC has dual processor. It makes it a lot harder so they said
-
What I don't understand is why ML does not do that for the Mk4 ? Imagine with the better processor, DPAF and so on...
-
True. But considering the length and details about the rumor, it's hard to imagine that a fucker would have such a sucking life that he would do that for fun.
-
This article is from March 22nd. Much more has been said since then.
-
And the GH5 does not give you a professional FF still camera in the package does not have superb canon AF in video does not have canon lenses (speed booster with no proper AF, thanks but no) I am angry at Canon because of their approach to Indy filmmaking wasting a big potential they had. But let's appreciate this update if real. The least it can do is shake Nikon and Sony a bit to bring us better video features soon. A 5DIV with CLog, 1.3 crop, 3K at 60fps and nice codec would be a good thing.
-
Wow ! And a 3K mode at 60fps !!! and improved full hd and new 200mbps codec. if all true...... that might be tempting.
-
Nope. A9 camera has been rumored with those specs (20fps, dual SD, .....) so either we get a A7SIII and there wont be any A9. Either the camera announced next month is a A9S. => high propability to get A9S, A9 and A9R as a pro line versus A7
-
10bit would be nice. However i would rather get a nice 8 bit c-log image from a 1DC than a crappy color 10bit image from a Sony. so I would rather have them first look into color science, then we can talk 10 bit. Cant wait for next month. A7SIII is gonna blow some minds. let's all thank Panasonic for forcing Canon to give us C-Log and Sony to up their game. Also the body will have apparently 20fps and pro speed features for photography. So brace yourselves for the price...
-
Hahahahahaha get out of your cave man. The "MF is for pro, AF for small hobbyists" is a thing of the past. Not so long ago we used MF in photography. Do you know many pro photographers shooting weddings photography in MF?? Nope. For video we are right at the curve now. In 5 years from now, 5% of pros using A7S like bodies will shoot MF in video. When you have used a Canon DPAF system you know it's the real deal, not only making your life a lot easier, but opening your creativity allowing shots impossible before (or very difficult for a one man operation). Good luck run and gunning with swallo DoF with a DJI Ronin gimbal and your Manual focus camera mounted on it.
