  1. I have 35-40c temps in summer so I can't wait to use my R5 as a flame thrower. I heard fire kills the virus so there might be a way to put those flames in our bodies as a cure? I'll ask Trump what he thinks about that. R5 will save the world.
  2. Maybe some people using 1DXs on the forum or other Canon camera not recording audio in high frame rate mode, like @Andrew Reid, can help me with this question?
  3. Well my first ever camera was a 450D, and then a 5DII and 5DIII. I did not like what direction Canon took from the 5DIII and I liked what other brands brought on the table the past few years. I have also owned the EM1, the GH3,4,5, multiple Fujis and Sonys. I think Sony deserves props for how they launched the FF mirrorless movement to what it is today. Canon is getting back in the race with a great set of cameras and deserve props for that. Cameras are just 2 things for me: a tool so I like to have the best tool for the task so I don't mind changing system if I feel a brand is proposing a tool better suiting my use. Secondly, I love tech and appreciate testing and trying new things thus why I explore many different camera options over the years. True, I speak out loud and sometimes my point of views are extreme... Anyway I do agree if 12mp only and not quad bayer, they are in trouble. Not nearly enough to counter R5. Sure for specialize work (video only, interview filming,...) it might be a better buy than the R5. But I believe for a majority of people the R5 will be a much better overall hybrid. Let's not forget all the historic Canon advantages I and Sony users had to close our eyes on for years (ergonomics, colors...) rightfully so because other specs were much better. Will we close our eyes on those now that Canon matches/exceed the good stuff (frame rates, no crop FF, 10 bit, flippy screen...)? Absolutely not. I hope for Sony the 12mp rumor is a quad bayer 12/48mpx, that they integrated Venice color science, that they upgraded the touch screen and menus and they upgraded the IBIS. If not, I wish them good luck for the next 2 years. Even for the low end battle, who will buy a A7IV for $2000 when they can get a R6 for $2500 should they both do 4K60p 10 bit, 20-24mpx with the Canon having better IBIS / colors body / ergonomics and being a Canon? The 3 dudes who need 5 hours recording time yet don't use the right Cinema camera tool for the job certainly will. For the rest of us though....
  4. One question: camera won’t record audio internally, but if I plug in a mic, will the camera engage audio recording of the mic or do I have to do it manually?
  5. Yeah it happens a lot that I film slow mo but play some clips real time and then need the audio. Also sometimes I use the audio in real time over the slowmo video (for background sounds like water and so on)
  6. The firmware update says « lower bitrate IPB for all framerates » HOPEFULLY that means IPB for 4K120 (currently only ALL-I with very high bitrates which forces Cfast use) and that would address 1 out of 2 complains I have. The 2nd one being no audio in 4K120.
  7. No. The whole point for me and for millions of FF mirrorless owner in the world is to have a do it all camera. I hate to carry 2 body with me on 60 miles trek at 3000m in the mountain or on summit attempts. Granted, not millions of shooters are mountaineers, but millions of them are travelers, and hate traveling with 2 cameras if one could do it all. So not only I want to carry 1 body, but I want great IBIS. It remains to be seen if the A7SIII IBIS is the same shit as the A7RIV, or excellent like the R5. It remains to be seen if they included Venice color science, and completely changed the body ergonomics and buttons and menus. Since I never shoot more than 1 min clips I do not care about the overheating. BUT, if Sony could have a quad bayer that gives me 12mpx video and 48mpx stills, with much better ergonomics / buttons / menus, better color and better IBIS (basically matching the R5 on those aspects) then I would stay with Sony for 2 reasons: I am already in the ecosystem and I would rather have 12mpx video / 48 mpx stills with the obvious advantages it brings (rolling shutter...) than having just 45mpx. However, I value MUCH more having great IBIS, great body feeling and pleasure of using the camera than having a quad bayer only. It's not like Canon is much behind in spec like always before. I remember an article from @Andrew Reid about how important having a camera with a good body and interface is, that it gives you the will to actually go and shoot and that bodies with poor ergonomics do not inspire you. I kind of agreed at the time. It seems you do not take this into account anymore in your R5/A7S III comments Andrew. I understand the frustration you have with overheating and your pro work that requires long recording, but I am sure you have plenty of gear for that job already and I am sure you will very much enjoy shooting a lot with the R5 for creative short videos.
  8. What a joke if true. 12mpx sensor and no quad bayer? I guess we will find out soon. if that’s the case they will loose tons of customers starting with me. A lot of people want a do it all camera for photo and video. 12mpx is not enough, so people will take the R5 or R6.
  9. A7SIII is rumored to have a specific cooling design. It will probably not overheat as much and have a few better features. The biggest question is will Sony improve ergonomics, touch screen, menus and color science, as well as IBIS.
  10. At what cost on thickness and weight? The S1H is a tank. Thanks but no thanks.
  11. You are too hard on them and I have a hard time understanding that much frustration. A 8K badge on the box? What about 4K no crop? 10 bit 422? 4K60 and 4K120 with best in class AF? Best FF IBIS on the market? Top level color science and top level ergonomic. You are omitting a lot of things. They did not trade reliability for a badge. They did what the world asked: best in class video and photo spec in a mirrorless body, period. Those are indeed more than best in class, and to achieve that some of the features have time limitations. Canon has been a joke and frustration for now many years. I welcome with a lot of positivity the great options they bring to the table today. They deserve a round of applause.
  12. Yeah it's very impressive. The biggest flaw for me is lack of IPB 4K120 that would allow manageable file size and SD use, just like the 8K mode available in IPB (even though the 8K ALL-I is higher bitrate than the 4K120 all-i, which means clearly 4K120P IPB is easily possible). That's a legit complaint for an easy fix that would make our life much easier. I don't get why people dare to complain on heating. Obiously Canon does not chose to heat their camera, it's pure physic limitation (unlike the fact they chose not to include IPB). Want a FAN ? HELL NO!!! I want my camera weatherproofed. If you want a fan and a camera to record 3 hours interview do not get a R5, what a joke. Why would you even use it for that?? There are plenty of other cameras better suited for that kind of job.
  13. My main concern is the 4K120p file size. Why on earth no IPB at 1/3 the file size like ANY of their other modes including 8K. WTF... 8K IPB allows recording on SD which means 4K120p IPB would easily allow SD recording. That would solve file size issue as well as memory card issue. Yeah Sony will have a better sensor like usual, better DR in stills, best of both world with the dual mpx of quad bayer, like having an R6 and R5 together. BUT ergonomics (shitty touch screen, small grip and buttons..) might be worst, color science might be worst, please of use and menus might be worst, and IBIS might be worst. I did not care for those when Canon was delivering 0 on other specs, but now that Canon delivers on specs those Sony issues cannot be ignored. If Sony is worst on those points, I will swallow the memory card and brand new iMac cost. If Sony somehow delivers on ergonomics, IBIS, color science, yet has Quad Bayer 64mpx sensor with 4K120 10 bit FF with better bitrates, then I will consider it. But that's a lot of things for them to do right so I am not optimistic. BTW isn't ALL-I much easier to edit than IPB (for the computer) ?
  14. My main concern is the 4K120p file size. Why on earth no IPB at 1/3 the file size like ANY other modes including 8K. WTF... 15. I don't care about long recording, I never record more than a minute. Quick succession of 1min recording clips could be an issue though. But it cannot be worst than continuous. So it should be fine.
  16. Some US states have 0% tax, it’s up to about 9%. However, if you buy online from a shop in a different state (for eg BH that is physically in New York and you live elsewhere) they sell it to you with no tax. So anywhere you live in the US it’s easy to get all your gear tax free. This is becoming less easy since a law now pushes stores to charge taxes even for states they are not physically presents. But many stores don’t do it. So tomorrow in the US, for 99% of people it’s gonna be $3899 final price with free shipping. I’ll personally buy both the R5 and R6, and return the one that works less for me. I’ll most likely pick the R5 though as 4K120p 10 bit 422 + DPAF + IBIS + 45mpx FF stills is a 5 year old dream come true. Only if the R5 is not good in video (moire, aliasing, RS,... due to the 45mpx) I would consider the R6. In the meantime Sony will announce the A7 whatever. Well, let’s see I am not gonna speak too early and the quad bayer should be impressive combining the benefits of both the R5 and R6 in one camera. But if their ergonomic is not changed or/and if no 4K120p then screw them.
  17. I thought companies could now achieve very decent 4K pixel bined now unlike before?
  18. Seems like I was about right. https://www.canonrumors.com/canon-eos-r5-launch-price-will-be-below-4000-usd-cr3/
  19. What are you actually talking about? You are absolutely ridiculous. I started photography with a 450D, used the 5D2 for years, the 5D3 for years. I have got the A7R II, the GH5, the GX85, Nikon D5500 and D5600, the A7III and multiple others. I am bashing shitty products from any company, and praising good products from good companies. You are again into this brand loyalty thing. It’s not about jumping ship, there is no ship. Only products. Yeah, it’s seems everything you see is hilarious, just as your first comment about the hilarious people bashing the R5 in the first place. You on the other end aren’t hilarious, you are sad.
  20. See, you say I look like a hater, you came on this page to say “Its funny listening to the R5 bashers, most of them shook fanboys.” and if I try to call you a fanboy you go crazy. Pathetic. Relax man, there is much more hate in your message than mine. I have used the EOS R btw. Garbage.
  21. lol you are as much of a Canon fanboy than the Sony fanboy you mention. Even when Canon ridiculously failed deeply with the EOS R your were saying here on EOSHD how great it was. What a joke. Personally I don’t understand at all fanboyism for a camera brand. Who cares if it’s Sony Canon or Nikon, I couldn’t care less about the name. I am bashing what’s wrong, and praising good stuff. When the 5D2 was out I was applauding. That’s why I bought it. When the EOS R was out I was laughing hard. Sony did an excellent job with the A7III when it was out. That’s why I bought it. The R5 looks absolutely fantastic and will most likely get it to replace my A7III.
  22. Sony is doomed. I think at best they can match R5 video specs (4K120 10 bits, 8K raw...) but that’s far from being enough for me to stay with Sony. Then they can match color science, still it’s again far from being enough. The EOS R5 looks super dialed as far as ergonomics and buttons, I know already it’s gonna be a joy to use. I am so excited for this. There is jut no way Sony will completely change its body shape, layout, menu, screen and so on at the same level as the very refined R5. I, and many other used Sony because we preferred making a compromise on ergonomics and other minor stuff to get the best video specs available with IBIS And PDAF, and no crop in 4K. If Sony can manage all of that though, and if the R5 has poor DR for stills and the Sony a 60mpx mode with insane DR, and 15mpx mode with insane low noise with the quad bayer, and other advantages then maybe we will talk. If they put that great quad bayer in an A7RIV body though, I won’t touch it, not even for 1000$ less than the R5. The R5 specs are more than satisfactory enough that they are not the main decision point anymore.
  23. The EOS R is more Canon's one off failed entry into mirrorless. The EOS R is a joke in all regards. They might keep a RP or whatever as super low entry, I have no idea. All I am saying is the R6 is the equivalent of the 6D series. That doesn't mean they can't keep lower entry product lines.
  24. What did you expect? The R5 is the equivalent of the 5D series, and the R6 the 6D series, which is entry level FF. If the R6 has 4K60 that’s already great. And considering the specs announced on the R5 I think it’s hard to complain at the moment.
