Thank you. Great article. "No, it isn’t a full frame lens. No, that doesn’t matter, because it has the same look as the Noctilux and when it doesn’t, it’s your fault" Well it is a big statement and I don't see how a f2.4 aperture equivalent can look the same as a FF f1.2 in term of bokeh and subject isolation. That would deserve a comparison. The GX80 looks great but it is a non buy for me. We will have in 3 months the exact same camera the GH5 with better ergonomics, 4k60p, same stab, FHD120p, log... So why bother spending 500? It's not like the GH5 will cost 6000$ anyway I am currently waiting with a D5500. For people with very low budget however it's a very nice option. Hopefully we get a decent video AF in the GH5 otherwise it will again be a non complete product..

I am depressed by the lack of articles on this blog.
wolf33d replied to Michal Gajdoš's topic in Cameras
I have EosHD in my bookmarks under "photo news" along with a few other blog/sites. Everyday I open this folder so I open EOSHD, but I quickly learned to quit it immediately because I always see the same article at the top. Or I just click on forum to check the latest threads. I miss this time where indeed we could have 2 articles a week minimum. There is tons of content to be published, many are waiting your reviews and so on. But I agree if you get 0 back it might be a non sense for you. -
This looks totally insane. The stab on the video with the 42.5mm looks almost better than on a gimbal. The GH5 is going to be insane, same stab but with killer features and 4k60p. My only fear is about the AF, if only it could be on par with a6300 or canon DPAF . EM1 mark 2 will have 4K (just has been confirmed) But GH5 will be a whole league ahead for video so who cares. Can't wait for september. This is going to be the best Photokina ever: Canon 5D IV / EM1 mark 2 / GH5 / Sony A9 / Fuji XT...

Requesting a 4K 5D Mark IV! Werner meets Canon in Germany
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Thanks. Nice information. Indeed Sony will come with A9 which will mainly correct the issues of the A7R II for pros (RAW bursts, dual memory cards, bigger body, AF,...). But it will be a Sony, will cost an arm and you will have to pay a lot for the good few sony lenses. Canon will come with 5DIV which will be a 1DxII in video except only 4k30p and maybe C-LOG. It won't have IBIS. won't have D810 DR and will have a mirror.. Panasonic will come with a great GH5 but thats M43... Well... Maybe we have more hopes for the FF Canon mirrorless upcoming end of this year. -
Obviously your A7R has a problem or you dont know how to set up a camera to get such an ugly result out of the camera. Missleading info here. Set up a proper PP on the A7R (once) and you will get something more acceptable. The 1Dx has way better AF for sure and better IQ which is to be expected from a camera at twice the price and with this bitrate.

I never shot at F22, neither F16. I am not doing a paid project here, just a personal project for myself as a travel video. I can see the difference between 1/50 and 1/500 but I do not care since the result of my video above please me and I feel that if all would have been shot at 1/50 with a bunch of hassle ND filters to screw/change all the time then the result would have not made a difference for me to like the video more. What it would have done however is make my holiday more painful and less practical. So don't worry I will go ahead. Sometimes people focus solely on gear and theory and techniques and forget about the rest (experience of shooting and the result you want).

Lol.. And what about EF mount... Is the purpose of getting a Canon camera not mainly based on their lenses?.. Its been said since months that they will use EF mount on their mirrorless. -
Requesting a 4K 5D Mark IV! Werner meets Canon in Germany
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
1 year ago I published a post on EOSHD telling people why it is 100% obvious that Canon will put 4k on the 5DIV with a list of arguments. People had same reaction as you "do you believe that joke" . Now today most people actually are convinced it will have 4K. Let's not start this again and use your brain to think. Mirrorless is growing fast and is the future in many aspects of photo/video. Canon will come to it and of course in FF. They might be dumb in not giving us the features we want to protect some of there product lines, but they are not that dumb to avoid one of the biggest market to come. -
Check my latest video here shot at up to 1/2000s and tell me if you find it that strange http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/19761-imagine-cuba-a7r-ii-rx100-iv-pilotfly/

This video is hilarious. It is funny though that your are not mentioning @Andrew Reid the confirmed new FF mirrorless by Canon (CR5 canonrumors). Should be more interesting for us than the 5DIV. Planned for end of the year. I agree that if you look only into video GH5 is the biggest event of this year. It will have 6K, 4K60p and IBIS. The only thing I wonder is about the AF... will it remain shit like GH4 or good like A6300/Canon DPAF ? Then if you look like me into stills/video in one body and FF... GH5 wont be the solution once again. 5DIV (or mirrorless version) could be, but won't be. I guess the Sony A9 to be released this year could be a beast. Let's see -
Thanks. it's called a whoosh. I downloaded some of them (youtube, free ressource websites,..) and used them for transitions and played with time remapping for the whoosh to go with the action. I can't tell you exactly where I got this particular one as I have no clue :/

Yep but honestly I do not shoot video with ND anymore, it is a hassle for nothing. I think you can achieve great look without the 180 rule. Only interest for me in ND for video is to shoot at 1.4 in daylight which I have to agree is a pain on this lens. Other than this, I happily shoot at 1/500s if I need to, with a great look out of it. Guys like Brandon Lee and so on do not use NDs either. Its a pain in travel, and something to always look after (with focus, aperture, ...) The lack of ND for a 1.4 lens though.... limits the lens mainly to low light use where it should perform top.

Interesting. GoPro is only for the underwater shot so I guess it is the RX100 then. Basically all the slowmo is RX100, swallow DoF shots A7RII

Canon 1D X Mark II high ISO and colour performance worse than predecessor
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I am astonished by the comments. Andrew is not pessimistic he is realist. WTF is your problem with someone pointing out that a 6000$ camera replacing the 4 years old one is doing worst in numerous KEY IQ areas? It is because of people like you that Canon continues to serve us the same shit years after years. People who think it's fantastic to release a 6k$ camera that does less than many 1000$ cameras in some aspect of video and photo and that isnt really better than the previous version are very funny. Yes the 1Dx2 will produce good pictures, and god that is the least you can expect for the price. But you can and you should expect a lot more. This is a big deception once again from Canon and I am happy that blogs like this one exist to point it out. Because with bullshit uberpositive reviews that say that a 80D is fantastic sorry but we are going nowhere. And the DR, yes it improved on the 80D and 1Dx2. Should we applaud Canon for releasing an 80D that has better DR than 70D but that is FAR from being at just the D5500 level that is way cheaper? Let me guess the answer. Even worst for the 1DxII. This is a flagship camera. Yes there are a lot of positive points on this camera that all the internet was/is/will point out so no worries there. However there are some huge unacceptable things and it is good that some people point it out. Because that is how companies work: they will only improve what people complain about and could impact their sale. Look at what Olympus just said, there are a couple of new features ready on the EM-1 mark 2 that will be released with the body only if the competition is doing so. So good for you, continue to applaud Canon for the non acceptable and they will continue to serve you the same shit! -

This sounds very bad for 5DIV -
Thanks. I did a lot of movements in shot directly, but then for each shot I use speed ramps on FCPX. But the movements are real, from the camera, except for one or 2 zooming effects. It's all about playing with speed ramps at the right time during the right movement. No twixtor since I used 120fps and 60fps for slowmo I took 600 clips during the 2 weeks.
-
I was on FCPX then Premiere and now back to FCPX. Better for time ramps

Thanks for the interesting comments. I agree that people are more laidback in Cuba, and that my editing is on the fast side. I did not use this technique specifically for this project but just because I wanted to try it (never did this type of edit before). I took 600 clips in Cuba in 2 weeks so it was the good opportunity. I tried to be slower though than Watchtower where it's so fast you sometimes dont even know what is happening. Maybe a classic edit would have been more adapted to this video. For the people, I could have put more people in the video. But on this point Cuba is just not the people but also the lands and animals which are all fantastic so I tried to put a mix of them. The thing with Atomos and LCDs is the weight and volume and the equipment you need which is not practical when traveling with your GF and doing this not as the main purpose but on the side of the travel Thats why I need good AF.

Hi guys, I have been using the A7R II and the RX100 IV for travel in Cuba, check my video if you want to see the result. So far I loved the RX100 for the slowmo (I filmed everything in 120fps with it) and the A7R II was good too. The IBIS is not great but better than nothing especially when you dont have an IS lens. No overheating problem (this is mostly a problem for people who record long times). The biggest problem that made me sell it is ergonomics (body and menus, ..). It is atrocious. Also I am very disappointed with the AF. Actually my 2 biggest challenges during my trip for video were focus and ergonomics shits of the A7R. Having to set everything all the time was a pain, and the AF was not satisfying. I had no time for manual focus for the type of shots I did so missed a lot of shots because of this. I did focus manually 25% of the time though but it was a pain too. The only solution for me is DPAF from Canon or A6300 AF (I did not try it). Rolling shutter is insane on the A7R. I used the 60p FHD mode sometimes and also the FF mode instead of crop mode sometimes without noticing a big difference. I used a Pilotfly H1+ that was ok. Used it only for the RX100. The good thing is the combo RX100/gimbal 120fps and the A7R II for DoF shots and 4k. Who has used this combo successfully? What do you think about the video? I feel horrible about how Vimeo destroyed it, the original file is SO clean on my screen... But I guess we are all in the same basket here.

This looks to sharp for me.

@kidzrevil I never spoke about military in my OP that you quoted. Again, for my use and for many use M43 sensors are not good enough for photography. You keep continuing telling me you got paid for shots with M43 good for you. I am sure you could get a world class picture with an iPhone (see those Apple ads about this in the streets) and get paid for it. Does that means that a phone is enough of a camera for serious landscape photography? Not at all. M43 sensors are limited. FF are limited too if you compare them to Medium Format. But considering the price of FF today and the leap compared to M43 I don't see why I should limit myself. As for the OP, I advised him to actually go with a GH4 (based on my similar travel video experience with everything from M43 to FF) if he does not care much about photo. M43 is fine for travel photography. But if you want to capture a sunrise at 15000" on a tripod that will take you 2 hours of editing time on Photoshop to get this special shot, then it is not fine. @Mattias Burling couldnt agree more.
-
I am tired of people who dont know what they talk about and come to tell you wtf. Good for you man. Anyone a little bit serious about landscape/portrait photography wont use M43 and know why. I got the GH3 as well as the EM1. Very enjoyable to shoot with but shit in term of IQ for the following: - high ISO, compared to FF - DR, compared to FF (well APSC does good here too here thanks to sensors like on the D7200 and Canon performs poorly this is clear) - most importantly, and what most people never talk about: ability to push grading without the file breaking appart compared to FF (in RAW of course) in term of depth, colours, ... And for portrait too, with DoF. Try to get this result with a 28mm FF equivalent on you GH, which means a 14mm on M43 (I took this shot with the A7R II) and come back talk to me again. https://500px.com/photo/135582633/no-country-for-old-men-by-loup-fsr Compare a 1" sensor with a Medium format camera and observe the giant leap in IQ. It is exactly the same way with FF and M43, just a smaller gap.
-
What are you talking about. I have always criticized Canon and criticize them for not releasing such a camera. I am very far from a canon fanboy. I sold my 5D3 a long time ago and all my canon lenses. I use now Sony and Nikon, but the former is unusable and the latter lacks in video. I just wish canon could make a camera like I said. If anyone else does it it's fine for me. I would say it is more due to people who answered my OP saying "impossible to do because of heating, such a camera would cost 10000" .. Because of people like this they actually give us 10000 shits. Anyway, your comment is irrelevant I bought the A7R2 and used it for two weeks during a project. Sold it right away because of horrible ergonomics (both handling, buttons, and menus), not great colors and horribly priced poor choice of lens. Also the AF sucks for video compared to a6300 (which is funny for a same manufacturer camera 3 times the price) or canon DPAF. Also internal IBIS sucks. Still a lot better than a 5D3 of course.

You bet. It is pretty certain it will come and not long after 5DIV.

I see. Canon management is probably filled up with people like you. Pessimistic can't do/impossible attitude. All those specs exist but are spread on a few brands. sony are innovative and try things and push specs. But they forget the basics
