Sony A6300 review (rolling) - Striking image but nagging issues
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I think for good photography, M43 does not fill up my need in DR, high ISO, DoF and more importantly latitude of gradation. In video it is less important since gradation is limited by the codec as we not often have raw. But look at M43 high iso performance for instance... So yeah FF is good. APSC is ok if still quality is minimum D7200 quality, but still missing that 35 1.4 / 85mm 1.2... FF look for some specific purposes -
Sony A6300 review (rolling) - Striking image but nagging issues
wolf33d replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well I used the A7R II and sold it. Non usable for me because of the issues you mention (ergonomics, RS, ...) but also price of the lenses and so on. Hopefully with the 5DIV we will have a touch screen, good Dual Pixel AF, nice 4K and even if I criticised them all the way I will get it. We always criticise canon but at the end of the day, 4 years after the 5DIII we still speak about it as the best DSLR ever for video (raw) and so many stills photographer critic the DR and so on but still use it at the end of the day because more reliable, better lens and colors than Sony and so on. Isn't that funny? Why a company cannot get best of both world between specs and ergonomics/basics????? Nikon are doing it in photo, but they are ridiculous in video (see D5/500...). Canon lacks the specs Sony the basics and ergonomics Panasonic not bad but who cares about M43? Want FF or minimum APSC. ..... I say let's create a camera brand at EOSHD with Canon ergo, Sony specs and so on -
I still have my Pilotfly H1+ to sell if anyone is interested

Haha I remember when I was saying a long time ago for sure the 5D IV will have 4k and powerful video (best DSLR for video) and people were answering that there is no way it will have 4k.
-
Amazing AF and impressive 4k60p. With Canon colours and ergonomics and lenses. Sounds great.... But I do not have 6k to put in a camera. If only the 5DIV would have those specs. But 5DIV will have 4k30p and 2k60p unfortunately. What a mess, each time a new product is released it's always missing some features another product has. Would Canon ever give us a mirrorless camera in a 5D body with touch screen tilt screen and 1DXII video specs? Nope. Sony has the specs but I sold my A7RII already. It is a non joy to use. A pure shit actually in everything but specs. I spent my 2 weeks shooting with it in Cuba changing settings all the time instead of actually shooting.

Lol Andrew, do you really believe their BS? Of course it is not the case that they did not put 4k because just asking their still consumers if they want 4k. I mean, I can believe they are retards but not to this point. They did not put 4k just to add it later (when XT2 is out for eg.) via firmware update so everybody applauds Fuji for their amazing FW update policy...
-
Would be quite a thing if they do so. But even then I would just be pissed cause I do not have 6500$... And the 5DIV will for sure be screwed, with at very best 4k 30fps. 4K 60fps is just so nice... amazing for crop, stab, details, creativity (dynamic crops, slow mo,...) 4K 60 fps with 1DC quality would be incredible. It would be a MASSIVE success in the video world as I imagine few people would pay double for a C300II that offers less in some ways..

I loved the 8ful8, a masterpiece for me!

I am looking at a few words only not a full speech that has to be learned and so on. A lot of amateurs doing videos like this use their own voice without any training or being big pros as you say. For some it looks nice for some not. Just looking for someone that has a nice english (unlike mine) and nice voice and is keen to do that so I just ask. As you say, probably no one will want to do it but you never know so I ask.

Hello, I am back from Cuba with 600 clips taken with A7RII, RX100IV, Pilotfly H1+, .... I am making the video as a personal project and I am looking for a voice off. Do any of you guys has an inspirational voice off and would like to help me participating? The goal would be just to send me a few sentences that I wrote recorded with a mic, an I would feature you in the video. I would really appreciate the help. It should take a few min max to record and I could do it myself but my voice is not nice so it would not render well I am looking either a male or female voice like those 2 video:

Nikon has always been full of shit for video until the D810/D750 but this now shows again they suck. The good news now is how Canon will react with all Nikon bodies having 4K (if it were only the D5.... but now even their DX body D500 has it so the D5600 and so on will)? It is not bad news, we did not expect to see some 4k 60fps 10 bit prores on a Nikon body today did we? At least it might move a bit the competition ass. A big shame though that Nikon did not buy Samsung camera division. NX1 tech in a D760 full frame body, who is in? By the way did you see the D5 has touchscreen ??!

Check my last message I edited it. Interestingly also, Cine4 is limited to ISO200 and Cine2 can go as low as ISO100.
-
Yep I just changed Cine2/4/slog Was it an A7rII as well ? Interesting because our shadows look similar (better on cine2) but we get opposite highlight! Edit: Well my bad. I reset the settings because the Cine 2 was on wide black gamma +7 I have similar result to you but then the Cine2 is just overexposed, so it is the same DR. Interestingly, wide black gammut +7 gives even better highlight than cine4 as seen in my first test.
-
Just did a non scientific test. As we can see Cine 2 as a clear advantage over Cine4 in term of DR (look at the writing near the light way more visible even though the shadows on the wall are less black). Actually DR is similar with SLOG2 (image not attached but if u raise black levels of Cine2 you get similar shadows while having the writings well appearing) I don't see any better highlights for Cine4, I actually prefer the Cine2 ones. Well this seems to match my "outdoor real" test of yesterday so Cine2 it is for me Cine2: Cine4: SLOG
-
Well if I have to bring highlight back to 235 in Premiere then why not use Cine2 directly? Jase: well DoF on the rx100 is good only at very small distance and max aperture. Otherwise it is shit. Lowlight is good for a small sensor. I would say if you need photo video buy a7Rii, if you need slow mo add an rx100. If you do video only then the A7S does the slowmo without need for the rx100 ans with better DoF (2.2 crop from FF). The last Canon 1DX II rumor spec says 4k60fps and FHD120fps, to rule them all. I would wait january as Sony will come with a99ii and canon with 1DX so we will see their strategy. Overall I like the A7RII but I don't love it. I just don't have a good feeling with it.

Thanks for your input. Why do you prefer Cine4 for daytime? My comparison between Cine2 and 4 shows me that they are very similar except Cine2 being more flat so giving a bit more freedom in the grading. Also, Cine 2 being more flat it seems to me that it would be more prone to noise in the shadows compared to cine 4. So I am interested in having your opinion.

Funny, threads like will starwars will be rubbish or not millions of answer. When a question like this is asked, no answer. Anyway I spent a full day testing today and here are my conclusions, if this helps other readers: I use Color Final for grading (as a lut importer for Impulz and for basic corrections) in FCPX as well as Filmconvert. For each test I did the best grade I could with Impulz lut and curves, and the best grade I could with Filmconvert. I also tried both at the same time and this is the best sometimes. I did that for multiple shots: StandardAutumn Leaves (use by brandon lee in his nice video) Different Cine settingsSlog 2So Autumn leaves gives the best look out of the box, but is the worst when graded. Cine 2 gamma with Cine color gives EXACTLY the same image as SLOG2 after luts and curves are applied, with less opacity for Cine 2 tunings of course (because it is less flat out of the camera. I am very pleased with the result. The conclusion is: Since Philipp Bloom uses Cine 2 with Cine Color with amazing results, since I confirmed myself I get the absolute same image color as SLOG2 after the tuning and since Cine2 is much easier to work with (no need to push exposure one stop, no need to have 800 iso minimum) my best settings are Cine 2 with Cinema color. On top, Filmconvert has a preset for Cine2 so it works perfectly. If I want to use an impulz slog2 lut it is as easy, I just lower the opacity compared to SLOG2 lut and voila.

Hi, I got an RX100IV and an A7RII. I would like to match same settings on both cameras so it is easier when gradding. I have been trying to find the best settings. Philipp Bloom seems to use Cine 2 and 4 with Pro color mode. Andrew SLOG2, and I have seen everything in between. I did some test and I like SLOG from the A7RII but it is mini 1600ISO on the RX100 so too much. Plus I do not have ND filters on my A7R. I tried a setting that a guy recommend to match SLOG: Cine 4, Cine color mode and black level +15. It works okay. My goal is to be able to use some luts so starting from a flat profile. What do you guys use, and who knows which mode on A7 is closest to the CINE D on GH4 ? Thanks

Thanks. Interesting article! My goal with the RX100 is to put it on my new Pilotfly gimbal. I would like to set the focus one time and be fine at 24mm, assuming a small aperture. I am afraid diffraction is too strong at lowest aperture. Does someone found the sweet spot on this camera? Continuous focus seems too hazardous.
-
Hello, I cannot properly focus my RX100IV. When I put focus to infinity, infinity is in focus but very far (more than 10 meters, anything closer is OOF) at 24mm. Even with the aperture at F8 (which should give me a ridiculously big DoF considering sensor size) I cannot have everything in focus between lets say 1m and infinity. If I set the hyperfocal then anything far from me is OOF. I noticed the same thing on my A7RII at 15mm. hyperfocal rule says everything should be in focus if I set it at 0.xxm, but even set at 5 meters far objects are OOF. I need to set it purely on infinity to have far buildings and objects in focus, but then anything close to me (even 2 meters from me) is OOF. Hyperfocal does not work at all for me, and especially what is written on the lens itself (voigtlander 15mm). I did this test at F11. How do you do? Do you adjust focus all the time, or do you accept a part of the frame is not in focus when viewed at 100% ?
