the camera too.

Just ordered the pilotfly as well. Waited for this Nebulla too long. Epic failed product launch

Thanks! I was asking. Currently having an A7R II. Thinking about NX1 for video / D810 for stills (therefore Nik NX compatibility).

Nikon bought Samsung NX mirrorless tech. End of Samsung NX (?)
wolf33d replied to Pavel Mašek's topic in Cameras
Amazing news if true. It means next Nikon cameras will rock (imagine a D810 with Nikon still and samsung video tech) but http://nikonrumors.com/2015/12/02/10-reasons-why-nikon-acquiring-samsungs-camera-business-doesnt-make-any-sense.aspx/#more-99691 -
Is there a Nikon to Samsung lens adapter? Is it working well?

1DXII will for sure have 4K. 5D4 according to CR will not. Still, for sure 1080p will be better and it will have DPAF. But honestly 1080p is not enough for me. I am selling some 4K footages already, so imagine 2 years from now? ...

Upgrading to an A7RII a mistake (Not a light read, Thoughts?)
wolf33d replied to exomonkeyman's topic in Cameras
I have the same problem as you. I have the A7R II. But I can't be satisfied with still quality of 7D, 5DII (had both) and even 5DIII (had it also). As far as I am concerned I love A7R II still quality. What I hate is lenses, ergonomics and long exposure noise which are big issues for me. I love it too for video. My ideal set up would be a D810 for stills with a 14-24 for landscapes and a 85mm for portraits. And an A7S II with let's say 35/55/85mm for video. But this is too big, and too expensive. There is not a solution yet. A7R II was close thanks to its photo/video quality but still missing. 5D4? Probably no 4K, not even HFR.... D820? Probably not before 1 year, probably 4K but will it have clean 120fps..? Then we are left with the DSLR problem for video : lack of EVF and nice focus peaking, tilt screen, ... I would just love a 5DIII body, with Canon menus and ergonomics and Canon lenses, with an A7SII video spec+quality and a D810 still quality. All of this without the mirror, with an EVF and all sony video functions. AM I the only one to wish for this? All of this tech is existing in cameras today, so it is not the moon to ask... But I have the feeling it won't come anytime soon. -
So the product ships but there is not a single video to show. Absolutely amazing guys, great marketing!

Nice review from DPreview. I am very impressed how A7R II 1080p kills D750 1080p, and even GH4. 4K is very good also. Does someone has a feedback concerning the 1080p@60p as I asked above? Thanks

I agree with both of you. We all have different perspective and different need. On my side S35 look in video looks fine to me (I mean, I am happy with the results and I don't need more small DoF, especially because I use 35mm 1.4 type of lenses..) The real thing that is a pain for me is the 120fps. I love it and need it sometimes, so it is a pain to not have it with A7R II. But my choice is because I do landscape photography a lot, to have the 42mpx over the 120fps. Anyway I have a question (Andrew or anyone who used A7RII / A7S II?) : Cinema5D write 1080p of A7R II is equivalent to A7S 1080p, (in FF mode), which means very good unlike let's say 1080p of A7R. First, is this true ? Secondly, and more important for me, is the 60fps 1080p of A7R II as clean as the one of A7S II (both in FF mode), and if not, is it still good and clean or bad? If it is as good it could make it up for me, for the lack of 120 fps... Thanks a lot.

A7S II vs A7R II interesting article by Cinema5D https://***URL not allowed***/sony-a7s-ii-vs-a7r-ii-test-which-one/

Check this: https://***URL not allowed***/sony-a7s-ii-vs-a7r-ii-test-which-one/ A7R II clearly better overall for versatility except if you specifically need the best world high ISO for instance.

Andrew. It has clearly been stated that 1DXII will be announced before 5DIV, and that 1DXII will be announced begining of 2016. So I expect 5DIV sometimes in 2016 but not sooner. Reason for more than 3 years: they know if they don't keep up with Sony DR they are dead because people will either buy D810/850 / D750-760, either A7R II. People are all waiting Canon move. They can't miss it. 4K is the same problem event though without 4K the 5DIV will still be a success for stills guy (if it has 14DR, and usual iso, fps, AF improvment). 1DXII will have 4K for sure apparently. I just don't want a 8k body and this big.

What are you trying to prove here man, except try to piss me off and tell me I am a retard buying a camera I knew had this default? I saw the FM post, DPR and many others since a long time. Most of the issues shown were not on images properly exposed with 0EV PUSH. I am seeing same amount of confetti noise on a properly exposed image with 0EV push as images shown in threads with +3EV push. And again, I did not purchase this camera for its long expo capacity. I am just shocked how non usable it is.
-
because if you actually read the thread you will see that people said the issue is solved with FW update. also because I have no choice. Give me a camera that does well stills and 4K and is full frame ?? also because I would have never imagined it is that horrible, those confetti (people said they come after pushing up exposure). LENR is not a solution. It gives far more "basic" noise and is 12 bits only. It is actually worst. I don't have capture one but if it solves the issue completely without concessions I will buy it.
-
Yes to all question. again, proper exposition in the center of the frame, of course around the frame it is darker due to strong vigneting of the lens. I took a picture of a wall, which was fully lighten by multiple light and with a completely uniform light. So I am not even taking a picture of something with shadows here !! In these darker areas from the vigneting it is full of confetti, without pushing exposure at all it is so viewable and awful that I am going to show it to you just by taking a picture from my phone of the back screen of the camera when zoomed !!!
-
So I got my A7RII with a great voigtlander 15mm for landscape. the camera is amazing for many points (IBIS, EVF, video functions, ....) the biggest problem is long exposure. I put a 1000 ND filter on the 15mm and get strong vignette (normal). But then I looked at the images and STRAIGHTS out of the camera (on a daytime landscape at 30s exposure) I get the confetti noise on the vignette dark part of the image so basically in 40% of the frame. Even without changing exposure or shadows.!! Even without zooming ! Even on the back camera screen ! It is just unusable .... so you get a ND filter to make a long exposure, but this nd filter darken the corners and then you get monstrous confetti 'so clearly worst than planned and clearly NOT USABLE for long exposure. Even a T2i does way better. Such a disappointment ... 'the other problem is the menu and ergonomics, it is just not nice to handle compared to a DSLR... I dream of a mirrorless in a 5D body with 5D buttons and menus.... With same specs as A7RII. Canon if you listen.......

Absolutely amazing review. all reviews are the same and here we get some real info. I am so happy I got the A7r2 instead. But it has a non acceptable issue as well that I will describe in another post.

Who cares about Nikon Log when you have AWESOME - high DR - easy grading Nikon Flat? What is this mania with Log nowadays? What counts is not the name of the thing, what counts is a nicely gradable profile decently flat that retains DR. Who cares if the name is log, HDR, flat, superfustia or mustafa? Lol, seriously... Nikon D810/D750 are absolutely awesome camera, years ahead of Canon ones. Reason why I chose A7RII over those is: 4K high bitrates Tilt screen (not on D810) EVF Nice video functions such as focus peaking, .. .. IBIS The day Nikon release a FF camera with 4K, I throw the A7R II out of the window ^^. Except if Canon really impresses us with an amazing 4K 5DIV with great codecs, DUAL PIXEL AF, Canon Log, ... I really want them to do that but I feel the worst... I had the Nikon D5500 and honestly it is a pleasure to grade. Low bitrates for wide detailed shots is a deal breaker, lack of details compared to 4K too. It just does not cut it. But they are close. Nikon, give us a D850 with 4K, tilt touch screen (not gonna happen lol), good S35 4K mode, 42mpx BSI sensor, "nikon boosted" DR (compared to Sony for the same sensor) and same Flat profile and color like D810. And that would be a dream camera. Don't even care about IBIS thanks to news good lenses like the Tamron 35mm 1.8.
-
And honestly ....... Do you do landscapes with ISO 3200 ? Lol.... Seriously. DR is useful at base ISO in most cases. I would rather have better DR at base ISO than having better DR at high ISO. And anyway, Sony has the A7S II for that so where is the problem ? At least they have products for everyone.

Lol that is why the 1DC can do 4K with Digic 5....... Lol you know what? You remind my a part of Philip Bloom blog, let me quote it: "I don’t subscribe to the idea of using the shittiest camera you have because you are an artist and you can make anything shine. Nonsense. Use the best camera you have access to. The camera is NOT the most important thing. You and your ideas are. But don’t be a camera martyr and say “my work is what is important hence, not the camera, I shall film this on my iPad!” Don’t be silly now!!" But sure, there will always be people like you, that will find excuses to Canon for not innovating and throw 4K$ at their bulshit. I am not speaking about art here. I am not debating about can you do a movie with a phone. I know an iPhone in good hands will make a better movie than a lambda guy with an Epic Dragon. THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION. I am speaking about technology, marketing, things like this. From a technology viewpoint, it is not acceptable to release a flashgip camera like a 5D for the years to come without 4K. The same way it would be unacceptable to release it with 11.8 stop of DR for stills when competition is >14stops for years now. If you disagree with that, and if there are more people like you on this planet, then Canon will never change this habit. Because there will always be some people ready to buy a Canon because there is a Canon name on it. And don't serve me the Canon is for pro because it is reliable and they only serve technology when it is working, Sony serves non reliable geek product blablabla. Nikon proves since years that having 14 stops of DR AND a Pro and reliable body can cohabit together without too much troubles..........

Your last two posts are very helpful Andrew. So it seems S35 of R2 is as good as FF of S2. Definitely last problem remaining is the 120fps (but my girlfriend just ordered today the rx100 IV so it seems this problem is solved for me as long as I don't have a new GF!) concerning the colors, could you please do the same test as above but with a7s in cine4 pro and cinema colors , and also no PP and autumn leaves? a lot of people like Philip bloom, Brian lee and so on made amazing video with those profiles and colors seem better than slog. People seem to always thune slog only but I think it is a bad reflex because it does not suit well those 8 bit codecs

Just thought about something. CanonRumors says in his last article that 5D IV will not have for sure 4K video, but that 1DXII will. I mean, 1080p is 5DII old, so 2008 old for Canon 5D line. If 5DIV is released in 2016 (and it will), 5DIII lasted for 4 years. So let's say 5DIV is a 2016-2020 camera. Do you seriously imagine that in 2020, the Canon 5DIV has 1080p video, same technology as 12 years old 5DII? That seems so ridiculous and impossible for a flashgip product. Well.... I can't wait to see the answer on this one, and I can say one thing, if 5D4 has no 4K I won't ever buy a Canon product my whole life just as a respect to myself, not giving money to a company that shits on us as much as this. So let's see

Andrew come on.... First, Is 15mm to 24mm a 3x crop sensor ? I do not think so. Is it changing the look? Not much ;). I would never use a 35mm and crop to 85mm because yes here you would have a crop sensor not nice look. Because of bokeh and so on. But at 15mm for landscape.... 0 bokeh. Just nice to be able to crop and still retain perfect details value. My work for stills is landscape. So it makes sense for me to have an A7RII. For video I do travel video mainly, so yes A7S II means more sense even if S35 is just fine for me on A7RII and FF mode is 90%usable. That is why I am hesitating. I would say that the feature that I miss the most is 120fps clean. So I said ok I buy RX100IV and A7RII so I have this 120fps clean. But then you realize you spend 4000$ and come the question well, for 1000$ less with A7S II only, you just loose the resolution for your landscape, does it worth it? As you can see, my dilemma is not that easy.. BTW shouldn't you sleep at 4:30 in EUR?

Anyway I am interested. Because I just ordered the A7R II. And my need is 50% video and 50% still... I have the feeling 12mpx is not very enough. Also 42mpx is amazing for exemple : use a voigtlander 15mm as a 15-24 for landscape just by croping... AF is good also.
