    effective tool but maybe not ideal unfortunately, have many people had success in cropping this way? I had bad experience in that the images dont cut well as the grain/noise is increased..

    Im interested in real life experiences of reframing / zooming 4k for 1080 output. In the little experience I had it didnt work well at all, it looked very obviously like a digital zoom due to the change in noise/grain size, even with just a 120% or so zoom. (This was for a theatre performance at 1600ISO though, maybe at baseline ISOs it works ok? I dont have the GH4 anymore to test)

    keep in mind you need a shock mount to boom, otherwise you will hear every movement of your hands, so just putting a zoom on a boom probably wont work well

    I think the amount of video content being consumed online is exploding at a much greater rate than the amount of film makers, no reason to worry and a great time to have skills in video

    Great advice, great cameras.. Keep in mind one day (next year hopefully!) Nikon will I guess release a camera with 4k onboard, think if thats something that will make you regret your decision now..

    Hmm.. not sure I agree with that after reading the reviews My conclusion was- FZ1000 Pros: Mic in, Flipscreen, Longer lens, Picture profiles, 5 axis stabilisation in 1080, more buttons/controls LX100 Pros: Wider / faster lens, looks cooler

    FZ1000 can always drop to 1080 for wider angle if needed, lack of audio / flipscreen I would say LX100 is more of the fun camera, FZ1000 a better contender as an A camera (if possible both used together are a great reasonably priced package!)

    At that distance your tripod needs to be top class.. From my (little) experience zooming / cropping 4k material at anything over the lowest ISOs doesnt work well at all, you can instantly see its a digital zoom as the size of the noise changes

    i recently used a Manfrotto 701rc2 of somebody else on a job with a GH4 and light lens and was very surprised/impressed, not much controls but it seemed to work really well with a light setup..

    all these companies have a massive amount of business in other sectors so Net profit/loss doesnt tell you much about cameras, for example Sony make weapons components (used inthe recent Palestine offensive), one reason I like to avoid their cameras.. well that and their colours. (Totally off topic sorry)

    it seems kind of stupid how advanced camera technology is trying to give us as wide a dynamic range as possible and advanced lens technology gives the result of crushing it again..

    I think this is an oft repeated misperception , theres nothing wrong with sharp lenses, its modern high contrast lenses with their fancy coatings that kill the mood that older lenses had, good vintage lenses were just as sharp as (good) modern lenses.

    yep, the lenses on both the LX100 and FZ1000 look to be miles ahead of the 12-35, the pics look more like expensive primes than cheap zooms https://www.flickr.com/groups/fz1000/pool/ https://www.flickr.com/search?text=lx100&sort=relevance These 2 cameras used together could be a great team!

    the more I use the 12-35 the less i like it, so much electronic trickery to hide its problems

    Hey neverending, its not a competition, people are also enthousiastic for the small size / form factor, wider angle etc.. (For my own needs FZ1000 is a clear choice too but not everyone is the same)

    wasnt the stabilisation 3 axis rather than 5 axis? maybe someone can confirm also is 4k maximum 15 minute record time?

    have a look in your editing software at 100%, i think youll find the moire gone..

    Hi neverending, there doesnt seem to be any moire in that clip, you probably are seeing scaling artifacts if not watching on a 4k screen or zoomed to 100%..

    Fair enough, youre talking about 'sharpening' rather than sharpness, film may be unsharpened but it isnt unsharp! In any case, agree there is a clinical look to Panasonic lenses, low contrast filters help with lowering contrast but wont do anything for sharpness (well unless theyre very cheap / poor quality i guess!)
