Yes Panasonic blocks and hides all automatic exposure information. I wonder why.

There is surprisingly little talk about GH5. The new HLG profile makes it very interesting without paying additional cost of vlog-L. Most users have not figured it yet. HLG also helps with noise issues of GH5. The HDR is also difficult subject and makes too nervous conversations and confusions.

GH5 sensor is about 13 stops (DXOMARK RAW). I would like to have all these 13 stops for video too and even more if it is possible with special tricks.

A trick for shooting 4k 30P 8bit with 150Mbs bitrate if someone do not want to use 10bit 4:2:2. Use 150Mbs 4k 60P and adjust shutter speed 1/30s -1/50s. The file is 60P with every frame doubled. It is in practise 30P 150Mbs.

Thats it! The IBIS hum is probably the reason GH5 must cut low frequencies of internal audio.

There is not always a "subject" in video. Ambient sound is quite often all I need. If I want to hear someone talking I try to put the camera as close to subject as I can. A good directional mic would be helpful with people talking in noisy places. A good mic is of course better than in camera mic. In my videos the in camera mic has been good enough. I just dont like the way GH5 limits low frequencies. A big mic may be a bit scary too for a subject if I want the most natural or "stealth" recording. Also in some places it makes too much attention to use a big mike. The guards or officials may want to stop me shooting if they think I am making a video story or documentation. With a plain GH5 I can shoot more freely and without too much attention of others.

Yes. I have a just right size belt bag. i can carry my GH5 with 14-140mm zoom with its "pocket" but it cant take any external devices other than one battery and some SD cards. I must try some tiny external mic and test if I can get better audio. GH5 mic low tone limiting is so bad. I wonder if an external mic uses GH5 counter noise tech for handling noises? By the way your Rode test video is not fair if the Rode mic is closer to you than the GH5 internal mic. The distance to mic is the most important factor when trying to record speaking in noisy room. (Not counting long very directive mics).

Thanks. Sounds quite good. Is it stereo? Can it record low frequencies? Can you fit it in pocket with GH5?
-
Focus control by using GH5 joystick would be great for easy and smooth focus pulling effects. This "BTM_Pix" guy already made this joystick feature for GX80 (remote app).

I ment internal recording. External RAW output would be super cool for serious work. GH5 photos from RAW are great. I have not used ext recorder. Is there any recording 4k60P 10bit HEVC?
-
I am planning to buy a good HDR TV to watch my GH5 videos. It may not be a Panasonic TV. LG or Philips OLEDs are first two items in my list for Santa Claus.

4k 60P 10bit 420 with HEVC would be nice and maybe possible too. All current 4k modes with HEVC would be useful and handy. Also 6k video with 16:9 ratio is in my hope list. I think that RAW video is not possible with current SD cards.

" ...I shooted thousands of videos.... Only in one hiking trip in Norway in September I shooted 883 4k60P video clips. Do you want a list of thumbnails? The quality of those GH5 videos is stunning.

Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware
Vesku replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
GH5 1080P VFR has only 100Mbs 8bit 420 ipb codec 4k 60P has only 8bit 150Mbs 420 codec. Dont worry, the 4k60P in GH5 is very good. It is very hard to see macro blocking. 4k60P all-i would need about 800Mbs to be good. -
Thanks for your polite opinions. Can you share a link in this all-i test you have? I have not seen it. In fact there are very few real tests about all-i vs ipb. That was the reason I had to make my own tests and post it in some forums. There was surprisingly little interest of this 400Mbs talk. Many camera testers just repeat marketing specs but dont actually test anything.

Odd talking in technical hobby forum. You this, you that, You are ...., you cant, you dont understand....etc, etc. Have I never said anything personal to anyone. English is not my mother language so I can not be so sensitive and polite all the time. I want to talk about camera features. If I have different opinions about gear is that rude? If I share my findings about my GH5 or my TV how can it insult you? Is there only one right and proper way to use our gear? Is it insulting to use camera differently than your way. Why it is bad to be exited about hobby? Is it important to share private videos online? Is it wrong to share information of hopes or issues? We have here in Finland very dark, depressive and wet season. I have now plenty of time to test my cameras and talk about my hobby online. Can you find my posts during last summer? What do you think I was doing? Yes I was shooting videos, thousands and thousands and my GH5 worked brilliantly. There is still always room for improvement. I am waiting new GH5 updates and new features. I hope Panasonic makes GH5 even better.

http://www.dvinfo.net/article/acquisition/micro-43/panasonic-gh4-dr-and-gamma-timelapse-and-more.html "Cutting to the chase: 11+ stops in every gamma setting. VIVID and CINE V styles give you 10+ stops free and clear, with the 11th stop separating from black with a stretch of the shadows. All the others show 11 stops and a bit more,..." GH4 normal profiles 11+ dyn range. I think it is fair to say that GH5 has then almost 12. My TV has contrast ratio about 1:2000 - 1:4000. 1:2048 equals 11 stops and 1:4096 equals 12 stops light intensity difference.
-
Did I say that? I said decent, realistic, pleasant. I also said to Joe that I may buy the mic he recommended. I have been very happy with GH4 internal audio. I think it is worth mentioning that GH5 has much worse frequency response than GH4. I wonder why no tester has figured it out. GH5 has bass filter (wind noise canceller). Why they want to cut bass also without it? Of course if I want professional audio or better hearing of people talking I would use directional ext mic. Actually I have one expensive Senheiser shotgun mic. What my feature suggestion you think is not not good to have. If I would be a Panasonic engineer I would be very thankful that someone thinks and suggests features and handling improvements in different situations. It is not barking. It is user feedback, maybe not very polite but it is sharing information to make our cameras better. Panasonic has actually made many of my request of improvements to happen in GH4 and GH5.

Thanks for supporting my opinion to watch videos with a good TV. I wonder if you are watching rec709 SRD videos with your OLED using wide colors and high contrast. It is not how SDR videos are ment to be watched. You must adjust your TV to show gray blacks and low contrast and crush the file for 6 stops of dynamic range. Users in this forum recommends watching and grading SDR videos that way. If we want the video looks stunning we must use HDR feature and HDR grading. If we watch 6 stops of SDR video with high contrast and vivid colors the dark tones are horribly black and all the clipped highlights shines too much. SDR 6 stops of dynamic range is equal to contrast ratio 1:64. When using OLED contrast ratio 1:million or infinite it does not look right. I like to watch my videos with excellent contrast and vivid colors and not crushed to 6 stops but it is obviously the wrong way. Sorry of topic.
-
I think this is relevant to HDR topic. Sorry if not. Here are examples what I see in my TV. I shooted a RAW photo and a video (Natural, contrast -5, idynamic) in my hiking trip in Norway at the same place. As you can see from frames the dynamic range is quite close. I see my videos and photos in my TV just as my examples are. Looks almost the same. Maybe not 12 stops but more than six. JPG from RAW JPG from video
-
GH5 RAW photos has about 13 stops. Video Natural, contrast -5 with idynamic standard has about stop less than RAW, at least 11 stops. As I said I am not talking about rec709 now. GH5 can record much more. When we grade for rec709 rules we must clip and crush the good GH5 file, but must we do it always?
-
Lets forget SRD, HDR, rec709 and rec202 for a while. I shoot with my GH5 a 8bit file. I record about 12 stop dynamic range. I watch it and I can see that 12 stops dynamic range in my TV. There is texture in highlights and shadows. Image looks stunning and vivid in highs, mids and shadows. How is that possible?

Here is a comparison GH4 vs GH5 mic quality. GH5 internal mic sound clearly lacks low tones (bass). The difference in 20-100Hz is massive. Actually we can say GH5 does not record low tones (bass). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTMKCmB2Pcg

Has anyone tested GH5 internal mic quality? I cant find any test result for GH5 mic audio quality. In my GH5 it seems to record low frequences much weaker than GH3/4. I must add bass quite much when listening my GH5 recordings. (Wind cut is off). GH5 mic quality is otherwise quite OK. The IBIS and handling noises are surprisingly low due to internal counter noise cancelling mic. I also made a foam wind filter which works well outdoors.
