Shoot 1080/60P with shutter speed 1/1000s and track fast moving sports. I think you then see some minor macroblocking in 50mbs ipb vs 100mbs. If you cant see the difference then GH4 codec is very good. My GH3 shows few artefacts with 50mbs.

I have shooted sports with 50P GH3 50mbs ipb mov. When shooted with high shutter speed lots of motion in frame I could hardly find any artefacts or smoothing. Now GH4 has more efficient codec and double bitrate. I wonder if anyone could find artefacts in GH4 100mbs 1080P footage. I think that 200mbs frame compression quality loss is bigger than 100mbs motion artefacts.

I am shooting a lot 50P or 60P in sports events. I use 100-300mm and I need good autofocus. If 1080/60P mode is improved from GH3 I would be very happy. I am not sure if GH4 fullHD is much better and now some are saying that video autofocus is bad too. I have GH3 and I have ordered GH4. Is it going to be a disapointment I dont know but I am a little worried. I like GH3 because I can shoot with it "camcorder style" but get much cleaner video. I hope that GH4 would be still better in quality and handling. Bottom line: 1080P mode is very important to me.

Hands-on preview of the powerful 4K shooting Panasonic GH4!

Did you find GH4 EVF eyecup uncomfortable to use. In your making of video you have removed the eyecup rubber. The lens also seems to be very ball-like. Is there corner distortions like in GH3. I have used my GH3 same way. The danger is to scratch ocular which has very soft coating. -
low light performance : GH3 comparable to Canon T3i ?

If you shoot with Panasonic camera and add very much NR in post would it be better than Nikon and Canon because the source clip is so sharp that with heavy NR it still holds well? -

FN-buttons menu-options: Wi-Fi / Q.MENU / Preview / One Push AE / Touch AE / Level Gauge / Focus Area Set / Zoom Control / 1 Shot RAW+JPG / 1 Shot Spot Metering / Cursor Button Lock / Photo Style / Aspect Ratio / Picture Size / Quality / AFS/AFF / Metering Mode / Burst Rate / Auto Bracket / Self Timer / Highlight Shadow / i. Dynamic / i. Resolution / HDR / Electronic Shutter / Flash Mode / Flash Adjust. / Ex. Tele Conv. / Digital Zoom / Stabilizer / Motion Pic. Set / Variable Frame Rate / Picture Mode / Synchro Scan / Time Code Display / Mic. Directivity Adjust / Color Bars / Silent Mode / Peaking / Histogram / Guide Line / Zebra Pattern / Rec Area / Video-Priority Display / Step Zoom / Zoom Speed / AF Mode/MF / Restore to Default So there is no improvements from GH3. Same stupid situation. So I can not use following options with those 10! FN-buttons: -audio meters -audio level control -Picture control (contrast,SH,NR,etc) -AFS/AFC for video -wind cut -Flickr removal -play (I do not like play-button on left side) Those are what I want to use when shooting. I think that they have been also lazy with other usability issues GH3 has. -

Andrew - Could you say how it was to handle and use. Was the features just like in GH3 or was there any improvements is usage like more programmable menus to FN-buttons or an independant video mode when talking about exp values. Is there anywhere a feature list or are those still under devolopment? -
low light performance : GH3 comparable to Canon T3i ?
Vesku replied to Pascal Garnier's topic in Cameras
"Much better" ?? GH3 has sharper video with high iso. Add some NR in post and those are pretty equal. GH3 has also better codec and less mud in high iso. -
Looks like there is nothing new in handling camera. I hope they have at least thought something new with operating system. Please not all the drawbacks and half features like in previous models.
-
Do you mean in same camera? No. It has to change! Sony RX10 and Nikon D5300 and Canons can do PAL/NTSC.
-
I hope that it would also be PAL/NTSC switchable ! (Is there by the way 4k PAL/NTSC ?) It would be very odd if europeans could not do 30P youtube 4k productions.

Sony A7R review - does it replace a DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera?
Vesku replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yes, I was mixing things. Thanks for correcting and for a very good explanation of that matter. -
My way with Pana zooms is to zoom as fast as possible. Just a very quick change of view. Pana lenses are usually not very smooth to zoom. Controlled zoomings are very hard to do. When you do it fast then focus problems are minimized especially with AF. It may not look nice but it is a rapid inconvinience.

In depth test - 5D Mark III and 7D Raw vs Blackmagic Pocket vs GH3

Get a german friend :) You can get the idea what they are saying with a translation. It is not novel language. -
Andrew Any idea when the final review is coming. Olympus fans are so exited and Panasonic guys like me a bit afraid.

Sony A7R review - does it replace a DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera?
Vesku replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
There are big differences with 4:2:0 cameras chroma quality too. http://video-dslr.slashcam.de/vdslr.html measures cameras chroma resolution and results (at 30% contrast) indicates big differences: Canon5D3 250 horizontal lines Sony NEX7 260 horizontal lines Nikon D5300 300 horizontal lines Sony RX10 340 horizontal lines GH3 400 horizontal lines (theorethichal limit would be 1920/4 = 480 lines) Unfortunately they have no Sony A7R test I think that due to codec limitations many cameras must throw away chroma resolution to maintain some level of IQ with low bitrate and low codec profile. I have GH3 and my eyes say that it has a very good chroma quality for a 4:2:0 camera. Reds are not aliasing so badly like in other cameras. By the way why is it called 4:2:0? That sounds like there is no vertical chroma resolution at all. What I understand it should be called 4:2:1 (proportions of luma res : horizontal chroma res : vertical chroma res ). -

In depth test - 5D Mark III and 7D Raw vs Blackmagic Pocket vs GH3

The problem is that almost nobody or no review site measures comparable video specs so that we can compare video cameras easily. The knowledge is scattered all over the net. I have been asking to shoot with video same charts they take photos in camera review sites. Best site with some comparable charts and reviews is in my mind: http://www.slashcam.de/ They have FS-700 test too. -
Why not buy a good TV for video editing. TVs are made for showing video.

In depth test - 5D Mark III and 7D Raw vs Blackmagic Pocket vs GH3
Vesku replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
What I can say is that GH3 has a bit less resolution than the best fullHD video cameras like Panasonic TM700, Canon C100, Sony RX10, 5D3 RAW or BMPCC. GH3 has a hard default sharpening which looks very sharp but it thickens fine lines and detail. I use sh -5 and sharpen in post. Result is then closer to best resolution cameras. GH3 measured resolution is about 850-900lines, best have almost 1000lines -
A very good motion test. Can you see panning photos sharply with your monitor. http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&photo=eiffel.jpg&pps=960&pursuit=0&height=0 In my computer monitor image blurs badly. In my modern TV I can see all the details at every speed.

D5300 review http://www.slashcam.de/artikel/Test/Nikon-D5300.html Looks OK, IQ very close to D5200.

Here are typical reviews of modern LCD TVs with motion improvement features. http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ue40f6400-201305042929.htm "When it came to motion processing... ...the F6400 still managed to return 1080 lines from the horizontally scrolling chart in the FPD Benchmark test disc (up from 300 if [Motion Plus] was disabled), providing a welcome boost to the clarity of moving objects in fast-action sports content such as football." http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/philips-46pfl9707-201304042732.htm "The 46in 9707 manages to cleanly draw up to about 350 lines of motion natively. This raises to a full 1080 with [Perfect Natural Motion] enabled on any setting (even the lowest)." http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ue55f8000-201303212755.htm?page=Performance "As with previous Samsung LED LCDs, the Samsung UE55F8000 can show all 1080 lines in a scrolling resolution test chart, provided that the [Motion Plus] system is engaged. With this feature off, you’ll see the usual LCD motion performance, which delivers just 300 lines worth of clear details. That’s enough for 24fps movies to appear without much in the way of discernable blur, but fast, high motion content like televised sports will still appear with some." This motion test is made visually by looking horizontal panning bars with eyes. So LCD visual motion resolution: -1080 lines with motion improvement feature -300 lines without motion improvement feature Almost every Plasma TVs show 1080 lines too in theirs tests.

Does anybody know the term "sample and hold display technology that causes retinal blurring" http://www.testufo.com/#test=eyetracking&pattern=lines1 http://scien.stanford.edu/pages/labsite/2010/psych221/projects/2010/LievenVerslegers/LCD_Motion_Blur_Lieven_Verslegers.htm http://www.avsforum.com/t/1433254/lcd-motion-blur-eye-tracking-now-dominant-cause-of-motion-blur-not-pixel-transition-gtg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_motion_blur I mean if this is true then LCD computer monitor could not show video motion properly. It blurs always even if response time would be 0 ms. Then it is impossible to see all the benefits of sharp 60P motion and that may lead to conclusion that 60P is not so much sharper in motion than 24P or 30P. With a good plasmatv or modern backlight scanning LCD TV motion should be much more sharp. Have anyone noticed that?

If you use stabilation in editor with GH3 you can get about as stable results than with Olympus IBIS. Resolution in Gh3 is so much better that the cropped stabilized video is still as good as EM-1 video.
