And the SLR magic 8mm is on sale at B and H right now. $129. I’ve read mixed reviews but at that price I’ve just grabbed one.

Jeremiah from artlist responds pretty quickly to email queries. I did cheekily suggest to him that beta adopters should be immune to any subscription price hike. I don't think he liked that idea.

Artlist io ... Been using this site for 6 months now. It's hard to complain about it. They're slowly improving functionality and gradually add more artists. I do wonder how they (and the artists) make any money though.

Here's a '"short film" I stumbled on the other day. Hand held, highlights blown, minimal grading if any. I presume it's coverage of some contemporary art show, but generally it seems "random". I think it's great. Someone is obviously thinking behind the camera.

We'll yeah, why not? Who's to say? Why is a "story" fundamental to a thing we label "short film"? Surely this website proves that the field is wide and diverse. Lately I've seen far more captivating "short films" that incorporate random shots strung together than "short films" that attempt to piece together some narrative that conforms to some formula.

First of all, nice work. I agree with Gregormanschaft, the overall feel is one of a music video, and nothing wrong with that. If you were after more of a narrative then we needed a bit more time to get into the idea, the characters and the mood. Having said that you still manage to create a tense atmosphere. And I'm keen to know more about the situation, so that's cool.

Hi Eric Here's a link to a video where I used your track "Hidden Pond". I was grabbing some shots from a potential location for an upcoming project but got carried away with the purple light from the bridge and the Bokeh from the lens. Your music definitely captures the mood though. Thanks

I think all the suggestions are good, and if we are to work and discuss and play in the "creativity and ideas" section then may I suggest we label each new thread/idea/project appropriately to identify it as part of this initiative. My suggestion would be "EOS HD Salon - (insert your title)", so for example - EOS HD Salon "please comment on story clarity" or EOS HD Salon "does my grading contribute to the story?" Etc etc. By labeling it (and posting it under Creativity and Ideas) we would be creating a loose but organised collection of like minded artists. Why does no one take advantage of it? I can only speak for myself and say that I might take advantage of the current "Creativity and Ideas" section at some point, but my suggestion was for something more structured, more "curated". Which I would definitely be interested in. Why do people keep things so secret? Who knows, keeping your projects secret is an antiquated idea. Opening up your process, engaging in dialogue, viewing your potential audience as "co-creators" of the final work is the way forward. Like I said in an earlier post my background is in theatre. My suggestion was not for a general discussion on random subjects, but for those projects inspired and motivated by what they have learnt on eos hd to actively engage with the websites readers in a structured and meaningful way.

Blanche I think your point is a good one. I'm like you, I've used this site to "train" myself in all the tech stuff. As far as I can tell this is one of the best sites on the net (as well as No Film School). However, I started to train myself with the specific intention of starting a major project. I have an extensive background in theatre, and am in the process of creating a project that links to both theatre and video. I've started ... Andrew, (if you're reading) your site has recently undergone some changes with new moderators etc. I think you'll find that your site has inspired a number of artists to go out and make stuff. Wouldn't it be great if EOS HD could have a (new) section in which projects (feature films, docos, experimental, music videos, whatever) could discuss their technical and creative development. Crowdsource issues and bounce ideas off other forum members. In other words a special section not just for general discussions but for projects that are going to be made, and were heavily inspired by this website. I think there would be a few out there. I've got one. Blanche seems to have one. I'm sure there are more. It could be a great international creative and technical film "salon". Perhaps projects need to apply directly to Andrew to be included, and then let the forum take over, subject to all the rules that already apply. Blanche? Andrew? And moderator?

Great post Andrew I think you should do more reviews/commentary on others work and how that relates to gear. Lots of interesting observations. And a great response to the developIng GH4 discussion.

I agree with Andy, this is well worth the money, and I don't even own a Sony A anything, although now I kinda wish I did. Even so, as I trawl the Internet looking for lenses for my GH3 I often wonder about what I'm looking at. I like Andrew's take on things, so this is a great resource. Highly recommended.
