I bought the Pocket again last month because nothing else would cut it. It just has such a pleasing, rich image to it, with great color.

Damn. Now I wish I hadn't just spent $450 for a used G6, 14-42 lens and other accessories. I would have paid an extra $50 for a new G7.

Thanks for all the compliments, it means a lot. I like the D5200, but I wasn't crazy about it. I originally did a pass with FilmConvert, and everything but the blood looked good. It was Tungsten lit/balanced, but the blood would look orange or brown depending on the stock, so the final grade is just Vegas color corrector and curves.

I've always loved lo-fi video and music. This is a re-edit of a short I shot in 2005 with a Canon GL2 (my first prosumer camera): And of course I shot my first feature on the DVX100. I still kinda like the look of it. This was the movie-within-the-movie of my first feature, shot on the Panasonic GS90:

Thanks, guys! I gave the T2i a shot, and I believe I got some good images, but I've decided to move on. I bought a Nikon D5200. Maybe I'm just not as good as Kendy, or he does a lot of post processing or even has an anti-aliasing filter, because the noise and moire are horrible, and you can't even push the exposure or color temperature...like at all. I've only shot a little bit of footage with the D5200. It's detail level is closer to Panasonic, but just a little softer in a pleasing way. It's clean even at ISO3200, and man it grades nicely. You can push the exposure and color temperature surprisingly far without creating a ton of banding (at ISO 3200, I haven't even tested it in more well-lit situations yet), and there's barely any moire. Also, I've really missed having an adjustable monitor. The real test will be my next short film shoot. Of course, this camera is 4 years old so I still believe you can get great stuff with old tech. I still think a lot of stuff I did with a hacked GH1 looks good. But I need a little bit more flexibility than the T2i can deliver. I've also used the 7D and 5DMKII on other people's shoots and they still hold up pretty well. They did something right with those cameras (and the 5DMKIII from what I've seen) I think.

I you're broke, young and just barely learning, do what everyone does: buy those cheap hardware store clamp lights with the reflective dome, diffusion gels, and a bulb. Ikea LED bulbs have a pretty good CRI. And the sun. Maybe a white poster board from a Dollar Store for bounce. You can also get light sockets and China balls from filmtools. You can also get 4 socket light heads and cinese LED panels for under $30 on ebay, though I'm not sure how good those are. I like it a lot so far, especially with Magic Lantern. It's nice having False Color built right in, no external monitor required.

It's my only camera, aside from my iPhone. I had to sell the bmpcc to pay for the T2i and lenses. I am hoping later down the line to add a GH4 and/or DJI Osmo to my bag, whenever I can afford them.

I met Tommy Wiseau at a screening of The Room. As my friends were finding seats, I decided to get in the line for photos. After a series of group photos, I approached Tommy Wiseau and said "It's just me." meaning I wasn't part of the group behind me, He took what I said to mean I came to the movie alone. He then starts calling out "Ladies! Come take a picture with us! He is all alone!" Then a group of girls crowded around us for a photo. The screening was wonderful. It was one of the most fun movie experiences I've ever had.

Now all they need to do is make a Cine Zoom lens and they'll have a perfect line-up of manual cine lenses.

By native Prores support do they mean the ability to render it in-program? I'm using Vegas 13 and can edit Prores. It edits probably more smoothly than other compressed formats I've used. Still, I've been using Vegas for 12 years so I'm looking forward to seeing what else this change brings.

I got a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 Ai in the mail today, and I love it. I tried it out on my T2i along with Magic Lantern and Visioncolor CineLook, and I'm loving this combination (graded with FilmConvert). I'm sure everyone already knows this/has posted about it, but this lens really is sharp at f/1.4 (which is the aperture of these grabs). I'm liking the 28mm 2.8 Ai as well: Wonderful lenses.

Thanks. I was definitely taking in mumblecore films at the time I made it (2009) but I was more influenced by Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach and Jim Jarmusch. It was shot on a Panasonic DVX100 (original model, not a or b). I may have to buy that pic profile. I'll probably give Magic Lantern Cinestyle a shot first, and if I'm not satisfied I'll buy Kendy's.

Forgot it was set to private. It's public now. He really is a huge inspiration. Watching his films always make me make one. But the camera and lenses that I ordered are exciting too. I'm 9 pages into a feature film script now,

That's why I just bought a T2i and Nikkors. I'd thought about it since Andrew wrote abut Kendy Ty a couple of years ago, and upon rewatching his stuff, decided to get one. Also, I just like to experiment and try different cameras and lenses. I've never owned a Canon DSLR or Nikon lenses, so it's new and kind of exciting.

I used to get a shallow DOF with the DVX all the time, never needed a 35mm adapter: https://vimeo.com/63615369 Sometimes I miss using camcorders and "just getting it done", but I think what I really miss is being 19 and making random movies on the weekends with friends, wanting to be a filmmaker, but not worrying about being professional. I would invite friends over with no idea, then we'd just whip something up, sometimes even staying up all night making multiple films. But most of those are terrible. I made maybe two that I think are still kind of funny and entertaining now. I put out far less work now, but I think it's much better than what I did a decade ago. I hope the new generations are just getting it done and not worrying too much about the best lenses and how many stops of DR they have.

I'm not trying to hire investigators or journalists, I'm just going to stop buying stuff on forums. I just hope people learn something about the criminal mind. I'll leave it up to the victims to report it to whatever authorities (Interpol?) can handle it.
